The Walmart Beauty Box is a quarterly subscription box from Walmart. They feature brands you will find at Walmart, plus coupons.

FYI – I believe they ask for your birthday at sign up to customize the box based on age. (There may be other reasons for box variation as well). For reference, this is a box for a 30-year-old.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

walmart-beauty-box-winter-2015-coconut

NSPA Exotically Creamy Coconut Rich Body Butter - 1.7 oz Value $1.40

This body butter is paraben-free and very moisturizing. It has a nice beachy coconut scent, but it fades pretty quickly.

walmart-beauty-box-winter-2015-aveeno

Aveeno Skin Relief Gentle Scent Lotion + Body Wash - 2 oz total Value $1

I think these are Jennifer Aniston's and my favorite items in the box! The scent is Nourishing Coconut, and it is described to be as gentle as fragrance-free. I think the scent is very subtle, and the formulas feel gentle, so they've succeeded in my book!

walmart-beauty-box-winter-2015-goody

Pantene Hairspray Extra Strong Hold - 1 oz Value $.50

This is a good basic to have on hand. It provides a good hold, but does leave your hair a little crunchy.

Goody Slideproof Soft Touch Silicone Elastics - Value $3?

Oh my goodness - I can't stop touching the grippy parts of these hair ties! My weirdness aside, these are useful!

walmart-beauty-box-winter-2015-jergens

L'Oreal Total Repair 5 Shampoo Conditioner + Damage Erasing Balm - Samples

This shampoo is made with sulfate. I have to avoid that ingredient since my hair is color treated, so this packet will be donated.

Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer in Coconut Oil and in Monoi Oil - Samples

This product is meant to be applied post-shower on wet skin. It's an interesting formula - sort of a cross between a gel and a lotion. I wasn't crazy about the scents, though.

walmart-beauty-box-winter-2015-coupon

And every box also includes a decent amount of coupons!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $7. I think that's OK for a $5 box considering that these samples are from drugstore brands, so the values are going to be lower. (This is no Target Beauty Box, though!) I'll keep subscribing since it is $5 a quarter, and I've seen some boxes on Instagram I'm jealous of - I'll keep waiting for a better box!

Also worth mentioning - wondering how Walmart ships their boxes out?

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 8.50.53 PM

Sadly - it is pretty sporadically. (But at least, it gave me a way to sneak Clueless into a blog post). From what I can tell subscribers have been receiving this box throughout December (check out #walmartbeautybox on Instagram). So, it would appear boxes ship out in waves and vary in samples significantly.

In fact, on December 4th, I got this somewhat weird email from Walmart Beauty Box:

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 8.49.25 PM

I guess this was their way of proactively letting some customers know they didn't forget about them?

Anyway, for $5 maybe I can be OK with knowing that I'll get it when I get it! 🙂

I just got my first one and I love it

After having unsubscribed due to too many disappointments, for some reason I got all excited about being able to subscribe to both versions and signed back up, for one of each. Guess what… I received 2 IDENTICAL boxes. Did this happen to anyone else?? Same box as Paige described, minus the expired coupon – guess they wised up to that. I’ve certainly received worse from them, but it’s not exciting enough that I would have ever chosen to pay for 2 of the same box.

I wrote asking about receiving 2 identical boxes. This is the response I received (5 days later, after I had just unsubscribed – again).

“Thank you for your email. I see that you were accidentally sent 2 Classic boxes rather than one Classic and one Trendsetter.

I refunded one of the shipping charges.

The Classic boxes are geared for over 35 years old and Trendsetter under 35. However, there can be very little variance between the two boxes, sometimes only 1 to 2 items. It is possible that the boxes received for Classic and Trendsetter could have the same products as there are different versions throughout the Season Campaign.

Apologies for the inconvenience!”

So, I was “accidentally” sent 2 of the same box, but it’s still possible I could receive 2 identical boxes in the future due to the limited variation. Interesting, though, that they shared that there are different versions sent out throughout the season. If I resubscribe to this (I’m going to wait and see what other people get when Spring rolls out), I will probably try staggering the 2 boxes in hopes of minimizing duplication. In other words, sign up for one, unsubscribe, wait a month or 2, sign up for the other, unsubscribe, and repeat the cycle with the next season.

Yes happened to me and my coworker as well. Very disappointed.

I also got the IDENTICAL 2 BOXES as Paige and Michelle described, after ordering 1 OF EACH. Very disappointed, but I can use all the items for travel this summer. Agreed, that I would not have bought of the same box. My Crest coupon was also expired.

I have always gotten 2 different boxes (I put my age in as 25 for one), and they’ve always had different stuff. Once I got stuff worth over $40! But lately…zzzz. I’m curious to see what the next 2 boxes bring.

Christina

My box had 3 deluxe samples: Vaseline lotion, mouthwash, and Aussie hairspray, a $2 toothpaste coupon, and a few foil samples.

Absolutely terrible!

It also took forever to ship. Almost seems like they gave me “leftovers”.

Reply ButtonReply

Kristina

Mine was the same, they have seriously gone down him IMO. I order both Classic and Trendsetter and I am awaiting my Trendsetter which shipped yesterday and if it is just as poorly produced then I am cancelling both. It may be only $5 but 80% of the items in my box were free things and the other 2 samples I could have purchase for .99 in Walmart so to me it’s a waste of their money and mine.

Reply ButtonReply

Christina

Correction: the $2 coupon expired over 2 months ago.

I’m not sure whether I should hope for a better box in the spring or just unsubscribe.

Reply ButtonReply

How do you know which box is what? Like classic or trendsetter

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

Apparently from what I’ve read in the comments, “classic” is geared toward ages over 35 and “trendsetter” is geared for under 35. I would beware, however as most reviewers are saying the boxes are the same. Resulting in duplicate products and being sent expired coupons. Hope this helps.

Paige

I just got this box (ordered late) and mine is different than most people who posted. I ordered one trendsetter and one classic for me and my daughter but I think they were both the same. I got
* Aussie hairspray deluxe sample
* loreal shampoo and conditioner deluxe sample – little bottles not foil pack
*Ken Paves triple foil pack shampoo, conditioner and mask
* neutrogena facial cleanser deluxe sample
*jergens natural glow triple foil pack
*nivea cream small jar
*Crest toothpaste small double foil pack
*loreal miracle blur foil sample
My crest coupon was also expired but for $5 I won’t complain. The small shampoos and cleanser will be good travel items.

I received the exact same for both subscriptions: classic & trendsetter, yet weeks apart. I think I’ll be canceling if this is the norm.

I received my first Walmart beauty box. It came with NSPA Exotically Creamy Coconut Rich Body Butter, Pantene Hairspray Extra Strong Hold, Goody Slideproof Soft Touch Silicone Elastics, Vera Wang Embrace perfume sample, Swisspers leopard print swabs, Dove Go Fresh body wash, Aveeno moisturizer & night cream, Neutrogena facial cleanser, Burt’s Bees serum pack, and professional polish by Crest. This was the Classic box and it was great. I just signed up to get the Trendsetter box, very excited to see what it brings.

Started my sub late Oct and a box shipped immediately. I’m 49 and use my real age. The Fall/1st box was a nice intro with travel size L’Oréal shampoo & conditioner, and Olay Regenerist. There were a few more samples including Ken Paves hair, which I received in the Winter box as well. Speaking of, my sub arrived the end of Dec, I live in the SW, and 200 miles away from a huge distribution point. Anyway, I think mine is close to Liz’s. Aveeno x2, Pantene hair spray, Goody slideproof elatics, nspa coconut body butter, Vera Wang, the hair color cards, Ken Paves, a couple Olay foils & coupons. I’m so old I have to back tab the ‘Oil of’ portion and remember how awful the original product looked and smelled. I decided to try Walmart for the travel sizes and I’m okay with what I received. Derm Dr. put hubby on Aveeno temporarily after a recent illness, so that worked out. We both travel and I don’t like taking my ‘real’ skin care for a couple of days, things like the body butter and even the hair spray are fine for mini trips. What I don’t use I mix with high end brands and sell. I’m making money on this deal!

I just subscribed to this box, and I actually really liked this one! I felt that it was well worth the $5! I received Pantene hairspray, 2 Aveeno lotions, the NSPA coconut body butter, a Vera Wang perfume sample, a Neutrogena facial cleanser, Goody hair ties, Swisspers q-tips (super cute cheetah print!), foil packets of shampoo & conditioner, and Crest 3D whitening packets (plus $2 off coupon!) 10 items for only $5- not bad at all!

Reply ButtonReply

Paige

I ordered my box on the 4th and I received it today; same box as yours! I was super excited about the coupon for the Crest, but mine expired on 12/31/15…bummer! Anyway, this is the box I got for being 18 (19 in April).

Erin

I received my first Walmart Box this month. One item was missing which was the Vera Wang perfume. They sent me a sample of Lady Gaga and a few others.

I still wasn’t too impressed with my box, so I canceled my subscription. Tell you the truth, Target sent me a better box.

Reply ButtonReply

Amanda

My box was stolen from my front porch and walmart would not send me a new one… WALMART! $5 to them is nothing… I was so disappointed in the customer service…

Reply ButtonReply

Erin

You’re missing the Vera Wang Perfume sample. Mine had the card for it but the sample was missing.

Paige

About five minutes ago I subscribed to this box, and it says my ‘Winter 2015’ box has been processed. I wonder if I’ll get the winter 2015 box? Even if I don’t I think it’s a great deal for $5.

I really need a pick-me-up in sub boxes because I had a huge meltdown with Allure after they charged me THREE times for January. Bye bye Allure 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Betsy

Sorry to hear about the multiple charges from Allure. This past Allure box was the best box yet! Boxycharm will always be #1 but Allure is coming close 2nd to Ipsy. <3

Reply ButtonReply

Paige

The February Allure box is the last one I’ll be receiving, and it looks alright. However I am super excited about my Birchbox this month with that new lip balm (it changes colors to suit your lips)! Also I was pleasantly surprised to get the trust fund nail polish this month in my Ipsy as well as the Smashbox primer oil!

I’m thinking really hard about replacing Allure’s spot with Boxycharm!

Nashdlp

Yay for the “Clueless” reference! This was my first Walmart box. After reading these reviews, I put a younger age in the profile … I’m 47 but I put in 32. I do tend to like skincare in my boxes, so I was not disappointed with this one. I got the Aveeno bottles of lotion and body wash (yay!), the rich coconut body butter, Pantene hairspray, Goody elastics, Vera Wang Embrace perfume sample, three Ken Paves foil packs (shampoo/conditioner/mask), two Olay foil packs and some coupons. Overall, I do think it was worth my $5, although I can’t wait to try a Target box since everyone gives them such amazing reviews!

Reply ButtonReply

Betsy

Yeah I went along with what everyone said to do & put my age “younger” for better things BUT… I soon learned that I missed out on some very nice items because I was “younger”. I quickly changed my age to my real age and I am hoping to get some great anti aging products in future boxes. Lesson learned. <3

Liz Cadman

Glad you like the box (and the Clueless reference!). Target boxes are even better, I definitely recommend them! 🙂

PLP

I got mine today! I am happy with it. I got the same e-mail Liz got in early December. I got: Coconut body butter, Pantene hairspray, the cool hair ties by Goody, St. Ives Green Tea Scrub (large sample size), Neutrogena sample mascara, a small pack of leopard print swabs, a sample of Vera Wang perfume, a sample of Burt’s Bees firming serum (small foil pack, Aveeno night cream & moisturizer (samples), & a fail pack of Crest 3D Professional Polish!!!! Total of 10 items. I am happy with it for $5.00.

Reply ButtonReply

Rachel

I got mine yesterday (finally!) and based on the comments here I wasn’t expecting much of anything. The box seemed pretty heavy, though while I was shaking it I managed to slip on the ice. I decided not to stand by the mailbox like an idiot. When I got inside and opened it, I was so pleasantly surprised! I seems I got all of the items listed by everyone here with only 2 foil packets and no coupons (weird). My Aveeno samples were face care creams and pretty good sized, plus I got a Neutrogena mascara (travel size, which I prefer). The hair ties, body butter, hairspray, cotton swabs, everything. For reference, even though inside I’m *maybe* 25, my outside age (37) is on my profile. And I got the shipping confirmation email after the actual box arrived. I’m starting to think this box is just totally random based on your region…

Reply ButtonReply

Mina

Wow, I wish I had never seen other people’s boxes or read comments about what other boxes were like, I hate feeling envious or like I got the shaft but I so did & this winter box was my first one.
All I got was coupons, a paper perfume “sample” coupon, a small baggie of cotton swabs & the coconut hand cream. That’s it. These other boxes look so much better. I’m not sure if I’m going to buy another because I’m afraid it will be another rip off for me. Dang.

Reply ButtonReply

Suzanne

That is the exact box I received. A whole lot of nothing. I cancelled my account.

Reply ButtonReply

Mina

It felt like I paid to get coupons! >:(

lia

Wow. That is a whole lot of lotion. They should switch up the products. Even for just $5 I’d still like to see a variety of stuff.

Reply ButtonReply

Lesia

I watcher unboxings of this box before I subscribed. This box will make a year. I will probably be getting this box. now that i have been with them for a year, I found that the fall and winter boxes were much less desirable than the spring and summer ones. I loved their summer and springboxes. Hmmmm..not sure what to do.

Reply ButtonReply

Cathy

I get 2 boxes (one for 18 year old me and one for 45 year old me). The 18 year old me received this identical box a few days ago which makes me think the contents are geared more toward the day of packaging, than my age. Especially because of the Olay age renewal samples.

45 year old me received her box mid-December with only a few duplicates. Compared to the previous boxes I’d received from WalMart these were disappointing, but were still worth the $5. I’ll let the sporadic shipping slide since it was holiday season.

Reply ButtonReply

Dani

I get two boxes as well. I got the one for my older account already and it wasn’t like this one. I got some dandruff shampoo (which is fine bc I use head and shoulders anyways), the hair ties, and the hair spray. No lotion which I’m actually fine with too bc I have lotion sample bottles coming out of my ears 😉 hahaha

Reply ButtonReply

Liz

I got three items. And they were all worthless. Hairspray, hair ties, and anti-dandruff shampoo :/ So disappointed in this box, especially after seeing what other people got. I will be cancelling this box FOR SURE!

Reply ButtonReply

dossmar

I got the same with the addition of 2 face cream samples on a card with a coupon on the back.I cancelled!

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

I received this very same box! Walmart boxes are usually pretty good for only $5, but this month was lame!

Reply ButtonReply

Paulina

This month WAS lame!!! What happened, Walmart??? I kid you not, I don’t think my box was worth 5 dollars.

Erin

I got exactly what you got. I’m 21 and I don’t need anti-aging or skin products. I’m so sick of getting lotion, moisturizer, and foil packets. I would be happy if I got even 1 makeup product. Maybe it would have been worth the $5. Most of the products in my box I have gotten for free as a sample from the products’ websites. Target boxes are much better and they always have better value

Reply ButtonReply

Betsy

I actually took advice from Wal Mart beauty box reviews that advised me to put my age “younger” so I would get better boxes. I am very sorry that I did that because I missed out on some great anti aging products that most “older” aged women received. I have since put my real age in there (which is 50+) and hopefully will get some better products that these other more mature aged women have received.

Reply ButtonReply

Barbie

This is the exact reason I set up two accounts. I’m …my real age on one and 18 on the other.

What can I say, I love makeup, but I need skin care! lol For $10 a season, I usually get a good little mix of both.

Reply ButtonReply

trace

I’ve gotten some good boxes and some not so good boxes. But for $20 a year, I think it’s a good deal overall.

Reply ButtonReply

Barbie

I got the same box as Liz but mine came about a month ago. I love it! One of the best Walmart boxes I’ve gotten yet!

These boxes are very random in contents. I think if you’re in the first couple of waves of shipments, you get pretty good stuff, but the 1st couple of boxes I got were foil packets and mascara with a few coupons thrown in. It seemed that everyone online got a box way before I did. Now I seem to get them pretty quickly each season.

I got the same email & then about a week later, I got the tracking info for this box. This was for my over 30 box.

I also got the same email regarding my under 30 box, but never received a tracking number. Then a couple of days ago, I got the same message again for my under 30 box. Hopefully, I’ll get tracking info for that one soon.

I know what you’re thinking and yes, I have two subs to Walmart’s box.

Hi, I’m Barbie and I’m a BB Sub Addict.

Reply ButtonReply

Abby

I got dandruff shampoo, hairspray and hair elastics. My first box was the summer box which was nice for $5. It has been a rapid decent. If I want to waste $5 I would like to do so buying powerball tickets. I feel like there are so many useful basics at walmart that I would love to sample, but I’m not getting them. I’m giving it one more month and them I’m done, it may only be $5 but I would like to feel that I’m getting my $5 worth, and I don’t mean the $5 rogaine coupon they included.

Reply ButtonReply

A

I got the shampoo (valued at least $10 on Amazon!), hairspray sample and elastics. I was a little frustrated at first, and realized, I got more than my money’s worth. I never expect much from the Walmart box…it’s Walmart, after all!

Reply ButtonReply

Liz

EXACTLY! It’s like they didn’t even try.

Reply ButtonReply

Deborah

That’s what I got too – and since I won’t use the hairspray for sure and a maybe on the shampoo, the box felt VERY empty and VERY disappointing. Not sure if I’m going to keep it, even at $5. My first box was good, but since then it really feels like I’ve just received odds and ends.

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn S

That is the exact same box that I got and I was so disappointed. The hair elastics hurt and I don’t use dandruff products or hairspray.

Reply ButtonReply

Abby

My first thought when I saw the hair elastics was that they looked like they would hurt when you took them out, so after your confirmation, I won’t be trying those either.
