FYI - BeautyCon BFF Box no longer exists. If you are looking for a similarly priced box that sends out full-size makeup, I recommend Ipsy Glam Bag Plus. (It's $25 a month for 5-full size items, and it's a Best Beauty Subscription Boxes Award Winner. (Check out all the winners of the 2019 Subscription Box Awards for other great box suggestions, too!)

BeautyCon BFF is a quarterly beauty subscription box. They highlight different beauty influencer curators each season, and send a mix of beauty and accessory items.

This box includes an info sheet list.

beautycon-bff-winter-mota

This box is curated by Bethany Mota and it includes a coupon for $10 off a purchase of $50 or more at Aeropostale.

beautycon-bff-winter-minnie

Disney Sequin Minnie Mouse Ears - Value $9

This is such a fun addition to the box! And there's more Minnie!

beautycon-bff-winter-tats

Tattoo Junkee Minnie Mouse Jewelry Inspired Tattoos - Value $16

I never thought I'd say this, but I think these metallic temporary tattoos will be popular in swaps!

beautycon-bff-winter-mascara

Maybelline Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara – FULL SIZE! Value $7.50

I sampled this before thanks to the Target Holiday Beauty Box, and it wasn't for me. It didn't give great lash definition, and I had clumping issues too.

ColourPop Highlighter in Stole The Show - FULL SIZE! Value $8

This is a gorgeous pearlized highlighter pressed powder. It had a little damage in transit, but is still totally usable. (Swatched in photo below).

beautycon-bff-winter-murad

Essie Marshmallow Nail Color - FULL SIZE! Value $8.50

This is a cloudy sheer white polish. I like it as basic neutral, and also for a base coat!

Murad Hydrating Toner - 15 ml Value $2.20

This toner is free of parabens, phthalates, sulfates and alcohol! It smells pretty good too! (And I like that they are including a mix of drug store and higher end brands - even if they are smaller sizes).

Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Addiction - FULL SIZE! Value $8

I'm loving this lipcolor! Here are the reasons: 1. The name is Addiction! 2. The formula is highly pigmented and non-drying. 3. It smells like vanilla cupcakes! Here it is swatched with the ColourPop highlighter:

beautycon-bff-winter-goal-digger

Goal Digger Notebook - Value $8?

This is an exclusive for the box and I think it is fun! (I love all things gold, so I may be a little biased on this one).

beautycon-bff-winter-garnier

Garnier Fructis Style Root Amp - FULL SIZE! Value $7

Well, this product gets REALLY bad reviews. (Like the type of bad reviews where it is actually entertaining and you can't stop reading). I decided to be brave and try it out on a section of my hair to give it a fair chance. While I didn't have some of the bad issues other reviewers had, I wasn't a huge fan of the scent, and didn't see any lift either.

Soap & Glory Hand Food Hydrating Hand Cream - 1.7 oz Value $4

This hand cream is good for the price! It absorbs quickly, is hydrating, and I like that the scent isn't too strong.

Now it is time for the cutest packaging of the month award:

beautycon-bff-winter-shoe-box

This tiny shoe box is holding a $20 off $50 coupon for Nike!

beautycon-bff-winter-nike

Normally I would be saying something like "I wish this was a gift card," but it is so cute, I'm OK with a $20 discount!

Verdict: Based on my estimates, this box has a value of about $77. They advertise that each box includes a value of $100+, so I'm guessing I underestimated some of the values on the BeautyCon items. Even with my estimates I think this is a pretty good value for a $35 box. If you're looking for a box with a ton of products, I think this is a fun and affordable subscription (considering it only ships once a quarter).

The value with this box is great, however, I really don't like their shipping schedule. And it doesn't match up with what they promise on their site:

You should expect something special at your door in March, June, September, and December.

I didn't get my Winter (December) box until February. I think this has to do with when I originally signed up for my subscription (August 4th). They sent the summer box to me immediately, but then instead of getting me on the regular quarterly schedule and sending my fall box out when it launches, they waited until 3 months passed to bill me again on November 4th for the fall box.

I've emailed them about this but haven't heard back - I really hope they fix this issue. It is no fun waiting months for your box when everyone else already has it!

WARNING

I tried to cancel my subscription to Beautycon BFF, given that this box came with 3 damaged items and that it wasn’t that exciting to my daughter, and they responded REFUSING to cancel my subscription saying that their policy was that you had to e-mail them to cancel within 7-days of receiving your last box. I couldn’t even cancel the summer box, to cancel that one I’d have to wait to receive the spring box and then cancel within the 7-day window.

Fortunately, California law prohibits these shenanigans. I spoke with my credit card company and they will do a charge back if Beautycon BFF charges my credit card again (though I have to call them to dispute the charges). But this policy is so dicey and anti-consumer, that I figured I’d warn the rest of you.

If you don’t live in California, check the consumer protection laws in your state as they may also protect you in this case.

I’m having the same problem with them. When I got my first box, I got it as a gift and didn’t realize how hard it was to cancel. Then, when that awesome code came out around Valentine’s Day, I bought myself an annual sub, but for some reason I couldn’t access my first account, so I signed up with a different email. I tried to cancel the other one and they refused even though I have an active sub. Just shady if you ask me, I hate places that force you to stay a subscriber. I deleted my card information, the card they had on file was old anyway. That makes me want to cancel automatically no matter the outcome. I also live in California, so I’m not sure how that applies, but i now regret getting the annual sub.

Thank you. I’ve made a note on my calendar about the 7 day window to cancel. They’re not going to catch me out on a technicality!

I couldn’t resist! I had to have the the minnie ears, tattoos and the nike gift card box!! Thank you to those who shared the coupon code.

We got our box at the end of December – but by the time my daughter opened it in early January the Bethany Mota $10 off purchase had expired. This really stinks!

This was my first box (had been on the fence for months before taking the plunge). I contacted them about the ColourPop highlighter (mine was ‘shrunk’ to half the size) and they sent out a replacement right away. Obviously a bad batch, but due to the number of people with problems, I’m disappointed BFF or CP didn’t cease and correct. [I hate feeling like I’m being passed inferior product purposefully.]

I’m not a fan of gift cards that require a purchase and consider them another filler. I really wish subscription boxes would only include gift cards that are face value with no additional money required. $20 at Nike or $10 at Aeropostle would have been nice. Granted, I may even spend more than $50 at the store, but I feel forced when they state $XXX off a $XXX purchase. Is it just me?

Other than those minor complaints, I was happy with my first box. The Minnie ears pulled me in. There’s enough product I’ll use personally to validate the price and the others will be great gifts!

There is a coupon code Vday50 and I was able to use it on the year subscription!!! 4 boxes for $50 plus shipping.

Helen

Oh wow! Thanks! I jumped right on that deal. ?
It works out at $19.49 per box with the $6.99 shipping included. Luckily I’d paid for the first account with PayPal so I just cancelled payment. There doesn’t appear to be a way to cancel on the site. I went round and round and couldn’t find one, anyway.

I was going to give it a go with the free shipping coupon code, but when I went to look at it, VDAY50 popped up, and I saved 50% on the box. My total was $21.49, so especially with the $20 card, that’s awesome! When I submitted my order, a message popped up that said “Internal Server Error”, but I checked my e-mail and my order went through. Just in case anyone is thinking about this one, hopefully you’ll get the same great bargain to try it out! 🙂

I got that mascara in the Target box, too. It is the devil’s mascara. It’s horrible, and it resulted in me having to completely redo my eye makeup– twice.

The gift card box is cute as a button, though. I’d totally reuse that.

I got this box for my 13-yo and I think it’s really directed to that age group. She has been a big Bethany Mota fan “since before she got famous”, she says 🙂

That said, I was not too happy with the box, and my daughter’s general attitude towards it was “meh”. In addition to the problem with the highlighter, the original Minnie Mouse ears we got had loose stitching so they went down rather than up and the notebook had indentations on the front. The replacements were better but not perfect.

She did like the mascara and the tattoos. Click on my name to see my full review.

For the Colourpop, try using a tissue on top and pressing down. One of my readers told me that trick and it worked like a charm. Mine was damaged too and using the tissue made all the cracks disappear and like brand new. It is sort of magic haha!

I think it was a bad batch of the Colourpop highlighter. Lots of people complained about it and BeautyCon finally negotiated a replacement that came directly from Colourpop.

Reply ButtonReply

Helen

You’re right – it definitely works! The one I got with my BeautyCon box was stuck on the lid. I put it back in the container, covered it with a tissue and pressed it down with the bottom of a small jar. Perfect.

I just subbed just for the Minnie ears and cute little Nike box. I like that’s quarterly. Will try it for a couple of seasons.

thinking of ordering for the Minnie ears too… throwing my twins a Mickey Mouse themed party for their 2nd birthday next month and i want to wear those at it! everything else is just a bonus i guess 🙂

Helen

Hey Ashley, it looks like I’ll be receiving a second winter box. If I do, would you want my Minnie Mouse ears?
A girl can only have so many mouse ears!

If I sign up today or tomorrow will i get this box or have to wait until spring? Thanks for an excellent review! I’m such a sucker for colourpop anything.

Helen

You can still buy this Bethany Motha box, it’s available on their website.

I kinda want the Minnie Mouse headband, though I’m too old for it. Then again, that doesn’t stop me from wearing my panda or bunny earmuffs. *cough*

Liz, they might have added the $30 in discounts to arrive at the $100+ value for the box.

This was my first Beautycon box and, although it’s really aimed at a younger crowd than me, I loved it.
I found that the Garnier Fructis Root Amp did just that, and very well too! My hair kept its volume for days – colour me impressed.
I’d never heard of Colourpop before this and have been on their website buying more!
I’m excited to see what the next quarter brings.

“Like the type of bad reviews where it is actually entertaining and you can’t stop reading” – Love it, definitely been there… and can’t stop reading them either 🙂

And oh my shoebox if that isn’t the cutest little box ever! So cute!

Agreed on the Push Up Falsies mascara, totally clumped up and feathered and just didn’t work out at all.
Cute little Nike card box. That would make a great regift box for a gift card too!
