This is the first HL box I that’s intrigued me but I’m a bit on the fence since woks scare me. They get hella hot so I tend to leave them with my more experienced family members lol.

I have been wanting to subscribe to Hamptons Lane for some time and finally pulled the trigger a few weeks ago. My first box, Festive Entertaining, is on the way.
When I saw this post about the February box being a Thai theme, I was thrilled, but have an electric cook top. So I planned on emailing them regarding the other wok option. To my confusion, I received an email today stating that the February 2016 box is the Tarts and Pies box, which was their November 2015 box. WTH?? I am emailing them now, but am curious if any other Hamptons Lane newbies received the same email I did.

Yes, they sometimes assign people a past box. Just log into your account and change it to the box you want. 🙂

I really wish they didn’t do that, it was the main reason I cancelled my membership.

I just made pad thai the other night. My kids said they loved it, but did not taste like regular pad thai, so I’m willing to try again with a different recipe. As it happens, I don’t have a wok, so this was a great time to sign up. Somehow I had a $10 credit in my account, so with the coupon I ended up paying just $27!

I also have an electric stove and contacted Hampton’s lane about swapping the wok. They sent the following reply:
Thanks so much for reaching out to us about this! We understand your concern with the round bottom wok included in the Taste of Thailand box being unusable on your stove top. We are currently in the process of putting together a different Taste of Thailand box which has the flat bottom wok substituted for the round bottom wok. We have put your name on our list for this rendition of the box and will send you an email with purchasing instructions as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime, be sure to login to your Hampton’s Lane account & opt out of this month’s box or swap for a different one.

I got the same email. They must have had a number of emails about the same issue. Bummer. I was really hoping that they could just swap it out easy.

Looks like they are trying to make it work for everyone. Kudos to them for that.

I’ve been waiting to join. This pushed me to subscribe, unfortunately I can’t figure out how to sign up! The site just shows me the boxes. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You have to go in and look at the past boxes (so you’re in the right place). From there, you can select the Thai box and it will let you subscribe.

I was so excited when I saw the wok because I’ve been wanting to buy one for a while now, but I have an electric stove. Sadly, I’ll have to pass this month. I wish they had included an item that would be good for all stove types.

I just sent them an email asking if there was anyway to swap out the wok for the flat bottom one for electric ranges. The prices for the pans are the same. I will let you know what they say.

Thai food is my absolute favorite, and my current wok is in sore need of replacement. So this box is a no-brainer for me. The only thing I won’t use is the fish sauce. This is great for $37 for me!

Unless you a strict vegetarian, I’d urge you to use the fish sauce. South east Asian food just doesn’t taste the same without it.

Ah, yes, thank you, but I am a vegetarian. I haven’t had fish in a decade, so I don’t even remember what I’m missing at this point lmao. So no worries. Thank you though! 🙂

Agreed! While the sauce stinks (I cook with it) while the food is being prepared, the taste is amazing once cooked. Don’t let the name/smell discourage you. You will miss out on the cornerstone of Asian flavor.

Hmmmm. I’m a subscriber, but concerned about the electric range situation. If the value of the two woks is the same, why not just let subscribers choose?

So, I bit. 37 bucks(with coupon) is a really good deal. Even with ingredients, if I make this just once –it’s still cheaper than ordering out. Thanks for the coupon, MSA!

I saw an old episode of Good Eats the other day on Netflix where Alton Brown makes Pad Thai with a wok on an outdoor grill! I also have an electric stove but am thinking this box and the outdoor grill might be a fun adventure in Thai cooking!

Hi there!
We totally understand your concern with the round bottom wok included in the Taste of Thailand box being unusable on your stove top. We are currently in the process of putting together a different Taste of Thailand box which has the flat bottom wok substituted for the round bottom wok. If you would like, please email us and we will add you to our list for this rendition of the box and will send you an email with purchasing instructions as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime, be sure to login to your Hampton’s Lane account & opt out of this month’s box or swap for a different one. Thanks so much for your understanding, we didn’t realize that this would be an issue with the stovetop.
Best,
Hamptons Lane
