Mashbox Club is a subscription box from Mash + Grape that sends samples of rare, small batch spirits from artisan distillers. Every 3 months you receive three 50 ml samples of spirits, with a story behind each spirit. Samples include: vodka, whiskey, rum, gin, tequila or liqueurs. If you like one of the samples and want to order more Mashbox will give you an exclusive deal on the full size bottle.

*Note: you have to be 21 or older, have a valid ID and be home to sign for the package from the postal service. They can’t leave package at doorways, stoops, etc. and you can’t have it shipped to a P.O. Box either. The website suggests to have it sent to your work/office. Due to alcohol laws only certain states are permitted to receive Mashbox via mail. Their FAQ provides a list of prohibited states.

Mashbox- March 2016- first look

The first thing you see when you open the box is description cards and a coupon. Who doesn't like a coupon? I know I do!

Mashbox- March 2016-quote

I love the quote on the side of the box, it's perfect for this subscription and it doesn't get much better than Picasso.

The samples come in miniature mason jars and are too cute!

Mashbox-March 2016- All Cards

The box came with three spirit description cards listing background info & recipe suggestions, a coupon card and theme card. The coupon card has a discount offer from Mash + Grape on one side: $10 off order of $50 or more. The other side has information on a "post & share" sweepstakes for a chance to win a free bottle of Angel's Envy Bourbon.

Mashbox- March 2016- Welcome Card Front

Mashbox-March 2016- Welcome Card Back

The theme of this month’s box is union and the welcome card explains why on the back. The picture ties well into the theme description. Behind each spirit is a couple that created it and is united- hence the union theme.

MAshbox-March 2016-product1

Maid of the Meadow Vodka by Denning’s Point Distillery- $2.80 ($41.99 for 750 ML)

This is the sweetest vodka I’ve ever tasted. I could taste the honey and herbs in it and surprisingly liked the combo! I think this will be good in tea mixed with pomegranate juice as the card suggests. I also really enjoyed the background story that went along with this spirit.

Mashbox-March 2016-products2

Van Brunt Stillhouse Rye Whiskey- Value: $4.39 ($65.99 for 750 ML)

I’m not a whiskey drinker but this whiskey is smooth! My boyfriend really likes whiskey so I will give this to him to finish off. According to the website once this batch of whiskey is gone it won’t be back until next year. This batch is a mix of recipe experiments from last year- talk about one of a kind!

Mashbox-March 2016-products3

Doc Herson’s Natural Spirits Green Absinthe- Value:$6.13 ($45.99 for 375 ML)

Stout is the best word to describe Doc Herson’s Green Absinthe. This spirit comes in at a whopping 134% proof and it has the taste to prove it. I’ve never had absinthe before and I enjoyed it! I sipped this on the rocks to get the full flavor so I will probably like it more mixing it with club soda next time.

Verdict: I have fallen in love with Mashbox Club. This is a great way to sample spirits you wouldn’t normally come across. I usually drink martinis and wine only, but this really pushed me out of my comfort zone and I liked it! If you enjoy the occasional drink, want to mix it up, or explore different spirits then this sub is for you. The box totaled at $13.32 which might seem low given the $28.00 subscription charge. However due to the rareness of samples given I think it is worth it, plus you get a discount if you decide to purchase the full size bottle through Mash + Grape.

What do you think about March’s Mashbox Club box? Did you like any of the sprits?

I was really excited when I saw what this sub was, really wanting something like this for my husband. But the value is just not there. Not as bad as Flaviar’s recent change..$60 for 3 shots. I guess I’m still looking.

I actually disagree. The value is in being able to try rare spirits without buying a whole bottle.

Anna

what kind of discount are we talking if you buy the full bottle? or is it just the $10 off?
