Our Little Roots is a subscription service that helps you introduce gardening to your children. We have a working vegetable garden, but I've been reluctant in the past to get the kids involved. I love the idea of helping them start their own garden!

This box was sent to us for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Good to Know: Our Little Roots has revamped their product a bit since the last time we reviewed it. Now instead of choosing the type of seeds you would like, you fill out a short questionnaire about your level of experience, where the garden will be, and how much sunlight you get, and Our Little Roots selects the seeds for you.

This month they've sent us Calibrese Broccoli. It's the perfect time of year to start our broccoli! Excellent choice. The reverse of the card has information about Our Little Roots social media.

They also sent this information card with facts about our plant plus some vegetable preparation and serving suggestions.

Our-Little-Roots-feb-instructions

The reverse side of the info card has planting instructions. I am so thrilled to see instructions in this box! These instructions are nicely illustrated and could be read easily by my eight-year-old.

Here is the seed packet, along with a little stake to write the name of the plant. They also included a sticker.

To start the plants, Our Little Roots included some soil and some biodegradable starter pots. We can break these pots up and put them right in the ground so we don't have to disturb the roots of the broccoli when we transplant it outside. Nice!

Verdict: When I reviewed Our Little Roots last fall, they had some issues, and I am happy to say that they have corrected every single one that I pointed out! They also seem to have adopted every suggestion I made, which is wonderful! The materials are perfect, it's the right time to start broccoli, and there's no question what everything is for. The directions are clear and easy to follow. This is a brilliant way to start your child with gardening in small steps and manageable quantity. I love the changes they have made, and I think this is a great service for families.

I just “found” and read your other review last night, after browsing their webpage. This is how the kit looks now on their site. I’m so thrilled to see this review to know that, indeed, it’s the way they are doing things now.
I also checked out their facebook page. That’s actually the only reason I didn’t finish subscribing last night. The Facebook page says use FIRSTROOT for 50% off the first box in their “about me” section. It only removes $2.98. That is more in line with what you’ve said, that it’s 25%. Which is fine. It’s still a coupon. Free money! They could have just said 25%. However, that was enough to give me pause because it’s sloppy upkeep of the Facebook page by still having that listed as 50%. That plus the review differing from the web photos of the kit made me wait.
They’ve also offered in past Facebook posts BOGO, 40% off, and a free box just pay shipping of $5.95 (1/26/16). So I got to see all the deals I missed. 🙁 It made me think maybe I should wait to see if a better offer comes along. It was like 4AM. I was soooo overthinking. Anyway, just gave me temporary pause.
I think my black thumb and I are going to give them a try. 😀
