Now through 3/31, use coupon code FREESCKIT to get your first month of a Studio Calico subscription for only $5.

If you aren’t familiar with Studio Calico, they offer Stationery ($22.99 a month with 6-month commitment) and Planner ($22.99 a month with 6-month commitment) subscriptions with this deal.

Check out my reviews of their Stationery Kit to see what you can expect with this subscription.

UPDATE: (Thanks, Emily) This is the weirdest Terms of Purchase for a subscription box I've ever seen:

There will be a $15.00 fee charged at the time of cancellation if subscription is cancelled during our administrative blackout period between the 25th and the 5th day of the month or before six months of subscriptions have been purchased. For subscriptions with a six month or twelve month commitment, you will be charged 50% of your remaining commitment at the time of cancellation. Subscriptions to card kits, Project Life® kits, planner kits, and scrapbook kits are not interchangeable.

These terms were not listed in the promo email for this offer and it seems like they should have been.

Here is what was included:

*Offer ends 3/31/16 at 11:59 p.m. EST. First month free trial valid only on your first kit on a new month-to-month subscription. Add the Homespun Stationery OR Planner kit to your cart and the promo code. Promo code one-time use only.

Hi Liz,

Thanks for sharing our latest promotion! My name is Savannah and I am the Marketing Operations Manager for Studio Calico. I came across your review of the Stationery Kit this morning and noticed there is some confusion around our Terms of Purchase. We so appreciate your post and I wanted to quickly provide some clarification.

The terms of Purchase that applies to this specific promotion are listed on the checkout page, however we absolutely want to provide the best user experience possible, therefore we have updated our Terms of Purchase to prevent any further confusion surrounding month-to-month subscriptions, as this current promotion is valid only on month-to-month subscriptions. There is no purchase necessary of 6 months of kits, and any customers who redeem this promotion and choose not to continue with a month-to-month subscription will not be penalized as long as they do not cancel within our our administrative blackout period between the 25th and the 5th day of the month. We apologize for overlooking this and hope that it has not deterred customers from the opportunity to connect with us.

I’ve sent you an email with some more details around this. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any more questions!

Best,
Savannah

The boxes that get customer service so wrong just make me love my favorite boxes more. If they don’t want to give away free boxes as incentive to try their subscription they should not advertise that they are doing so. I could lose my license for false advertising. Why can’t we punish boxes like that?

This is why I didn’t sign up and also I hate when you have to email them to cancel.

These terms look very similar to happy mail’s which is why I have held off on starting a sub with them.

Thanks for the heads up. I was about to subscribe. I got tricked by Fabfitfun by a tricky email. They debited my account $79+. They refunded it reluctantly but it caused an overdraft on my account and had to make a fraudulent claim and had to get a new debit card.

Here is their cancellation policy:

To cancel a subscription, you must start a conversation with us. Please note that in order to allow adequate time for us to process subscription orders, subscription orders cannot be cancelled between the 1st of the month and the 5th of the month. After your subscription order has shipped, you can contact us and we will process your cancellation.

If you have a month to month subscription and you request to cancel after the 25th of the month, there will be a $15 cancellation fee. For subscriptions with a six month or twelve month commitment, you will be charged 50% of your remaining commitment at the time of cancellation. Six month and twelve month subscriptions will not incur an additional $15 cancellation fee if they are cancelled after the 25th of the month.

And bingo…….. I did say then they are probably a company that likes to change terms as well as confuse people on purpose…… They just added a comment to say they changed it again.

Hildol’s,
Oh thank goodness you did see. That’s why I said it could be an outdated version. I really was not being personal, just didn’t want people to think one month wouldn’t get them charged that fee. Also yours is different further on with 6-12 month needing to be after 25th. With all the trickery that is why I stayed away from some boxes, if I feel I need to keep re-reading to understand or write my own chart, then they are probably a company that likes to change terms as well as confuse people on purpose. This is the worst I have seen so far. Did you notice the additional clause added, it does state though that the terms are valid from when you signed up so that may seem like good news to people who had it before the change.

Thank you! So as long as I cancel this trial by the 25th, I should be okay and just have paid my $5 for some cards. 🙂

Those are some tricky terms!

No, no, no. Please click liz’s link for terms of purchase because she accurately stated in bold print up top OR BEFORE 6 months of subscription purchase. That is why I did not subscribe when I read all the strange terms. Sorry but Hildol’s comment should be fixed or removed because it is NOT correct and could possibly be an outdated version. (Please don’t take personally because it is in fact wrong) Liz’s link is to the Studio Calico website.

Only if your order ships in time!

Emily

This is not a “risk-free” trial — anyone thinking of signing up should read the fine print carefully!

Just signed up for the planner kit, $5 for the March kit…I’ll take it.

Just did this! The cards look cute. I’ll do a month for $5. I saw in the fine print, though, when you go to cancel, you can’t do it between the 25th to 5th because they’ll charge you a cancellation fee.

Emily

Did you see that if you cancel and you haven’t been subscribed for at least six months they charge you a $15 penalty? I almost signed up last week but saw that and turned back!

darla

What?!? I didn’t see that! What would be the point of signing up for a month-to-month commitment then? I would hope you could cancel at any point out of a month-to-month subscription. Going back to search the fine print … I really hope this isn’t the case. My stomach just plunged. 🙁

Alison

Thanks for the warning re: the cancellation fee. I keep trying to checkout to order the FREESCKIT but I don’t see how you actually place the order (no final checkout button).
