The Best Subscription Boxes for Geeks

I've been reviewing geek boxes for well over a year and have been receiving them since early 2013. We've seen a lot of trends in geek boxes in the past 3-4 years, so I wanted to pull some boxes from the Geek Subscription Box List and put together a guide to get the best geek box for you! I did the best to answer the questions we get the most so that you have a super-helpful list - everything you need is here!

Updated for 2017! There are now more fandom-specific boxes than ever, so we've broken this list into two parts so you can find the best box more easily. The first half is general geek boxes, and the rest is fandom-specific boxes.

General Geek & Nerd Subscription Boxes

Loot Crate: The geek box for the fan who has everything

Loot Crate

Why We Recommend It: Loot Crate has moved toward all-exclusive items in their boxes - meaning there's no way you'd be getting something you already own! Each month is themed to give you an idea of what to expect, and subscribers can choose to skip the month if it's completely out of your wheelhouse.

What's in the Box: 5-7 Items in each box. Every box comes with an exclusive shirt for the theme. The types of items greatly vary from a comic to vinyl figures to a Breaking Bad themed apron.

How Much Does It Cost $13.37 + $6 Shipping

COUPON: Save 10% off any length subscription, or $3 off month-to-month with coupon code ADDICTION or SAVE3

Blindbox ComicsThe geek box for the comic collector

Why We Recommend It: There are numerous comic subscriptions out there now, so you definitely have some choices. But, I've received the most valuable variant comics from Blindbox so far. You can subscribe to BlindVariant and just get a variant for the super collectors out there. Or, you can also add the BlindVariant to the normal subscription and get a bunch of timely releases and a guaranteed variant.

What's in the Box: With the regular subscription + BlindVariant, you'll be getting at least 5 regular monthly releases and one exclusive variant cover. They have bonus items from time to time as well - just this month I pulled a hand drawn original artwork of a TMNT variant cover from Robert Atkins. The exclusive variants they send range in value from $10 up to $50 if you get lucky and pull a variant that is limited to only 100 made.

How Much Does It Cost: BlindBox – $20.99/month, BlindVariant – $12.99/month, BlindBox+BlindVariant – $27.99/month + $5 s/h

COUPON: Save $5 off your first box with coupon code MSA5!

Geek FuelThe geek box for the Steam gamer

GeekFuel Subscription Box

Why We Recommend It: On top of the 4-5 geeky items, you'll always get a Steam game in a fun, exclusive packaging. The fun packaging ranges from candy and a fun little game to a mini-book about making video games! They're not always in fun packaging, but you'll get a game in every single box.

What's in the Box: On top of your Steam game, you'll get 4-5 geeky items. They guarantee a value of 50+ in each of their boxes and have included things like vinyl toys, exclusive art prints, and even both Jurassic Park books.

How Much Does It Cost: $23.90 a month ($17.90 + $6 shipping)

EXCLUSIVE DEAL: While supplies last, use this link to get $3 off any subscription PLUS get a Star Wars Bonus Item with a 3-Month subscription! (This $3 off + Free Bonus on the 3-month deal is only available for MSA readers).

1UP Box and Super Geek Box: For kids who want in on the geek box fun

Why We Recommend Them: While neither categorizes themselves as a box for the younger geek, after reviewing them for many months, most of the items tend to be for the younger audience.

What's in the Box: Both these boxes are incredibly similar. Both guarantee $40+ in value in their boxes and 5-8 items. Each both will have a theme each month, which they stick to pretty well. You can expect a shirt in each box, smaller things like pins, patches, and lanyards and, at least, one hero item - like a Funko POP or a plush.

Loot PetsThe geek box for the dog lover

Loot Pets Subscription Box for Dogs

Why We Recommend It: Loot Pets is the only geeky pet subscription around! Right now, it's just for dogs, but they've mentioned the idea of doing it for cats as well - we'll just have to wait and see if that ever happens. As an additional fun-factor, the dog shirt you receive in this box will match the shirt from Loot Crate each month! Good to note - so far all of their treats have been made in the USA.

What's in the Box: This one guarantees a $50+ value in the box.  Expect a bag of treats or two, a toy or two, and a guaranteed shirt each month. Starting in April, they will include both a dog shirt and human shirt in the box - stay tuned for future reviews of that!

I subscribe to smugglers , geek fuel , nerd block classic and horror , loot crate and the level up loot crate . So far I will say the horror has been on point for items . The classic varies se months super awesome others kinda meh . Smugglers bounty even with the addition of mugs vs more pops is still pretty awesome . The geek fuel has been pretty good . I also signed up for the comicon boxes from nerd block which did not disappoint . Lots of fun treasures but pricey . I have been eyeing the Club geek box … it’s fully loaded but a hefty price …. did you check that one out at all ?

I agree. I thought this review was really helpful. Lootcrate was our first sub box several years ago for my teenage boys. They love it. My younger guy is envious of his brothers. This gave me a great over view, since I am also thinking about sub boxes as graduation gifts for some of my boys friends.

This is super helpful! Thank you so much for putting it together! Yesterday I was looking back and forth between the options under the Geek boxes and re-reading your reviews, trying to figure out which might be the best. I have Geek Fuel, but now I want to give Loot Crate a shot.
