Do you have to re sign up every time they open subscriptions or are you automatically joined each time?

It’s automatic each time, so once you’re in, you’re in until you cancel. No need to re-sub each time.

Yikes! June 15. The shipments seem to be getting farther and farther apart. More than 2 months from last shipment.

I’m very intrigued by the book selection, but this sub seems to be a real gamble as far as value. I’ll just buy the book from Amazon and save myself $20.

I am loving the First Editions Club from Parnassus Books! You’re charged list price for a signed first edition plus $6 for shipping (unless you can pick it up in person in Nashville). It’s sent out book rate (slow), and it comes in a nifty cotton sack inside a box. More expensive than Amazon, obviously. No “book-ish” extras, but I’m okay with that. Plus, they send out an email letting you know what book they’ll be sending in advance, and you have the option of opting out couple times a year if you’re not interested in the specific book. Both fiction and non-fiction selections. On the con side, there’s no cool custom slipcover, like Powell’s. Also, there is not a specific fee, so some months will be more than others, depending on what the book’s list price is. I’m unclear on how they’d handle the pricing on a multi-month gift subscription to someone else. There’s also ParnassusNext, with a Young Adult selection every month (signed first editions).

You could, but at this point I’ve gotten three signed editions through Powell’s, as well as two nice book jackets. I guess it depends on whether that would be a deciding factor to you or not. For me personally, I like that I have books signed by the authors :).

A signed version isn’t worth double the price for me, but thank you for the info.
