This is a review of the “Big Picture Box.”

This month’s StitchyBox came with a card detailing the theme for the box.  This box’s theme is “The Scream.”  This is a Halloween-themed box (yes, I know it’s six months early – that’s so you have time to finish up projects by October).

Assorted Toho Beads (3 packages) – Value $1.50

These came in three different colors to add a bit of sparkle and dimension to your next project.  I like getting small amounts – I’d never manage to use an entire package.

Planet Earth Fiber Silk Ribbon in “Yellow Brickroad” – Value $4.50

Not sure how to use this yet.  Might be nice for hanging a picture.

Legacy 14 Count Aida by Picture This Plus (fat 16^th) – Value $7.50 (?)

This is a great pattern for fall.  I think it would look nice with some autumn leaves embroidered on it.  I just have to find the right pattern.

Twilight Mist 28 Count by Jobelan Wichelt – Value $5.38 (?)

I like that the fabrics were considerably different this month.  Now, I will go cross-eyed by the time I am ready to attempt using this one  -- I don’t see so well close up unless I can look over or under my glasses…

The Pure Palette by Elements Soy Luster Shadows in “After Midnight” – Value

A nice variegated dark blue.  Fairly easy to work with.

Fiberlicious Spun Silk in Imperial Purple – Value $3.75

This one is a little hard to work with; I kept getting tangles.  But oh, is it a beautiful purple (a little hard to see in the photo, unfortunately).

Planet Earth Fiber in Green Foliage – Value $4.80

I like the variegation here as well.  But if the top part of your “X” is darker than the bottom, that pretty much drowns out the color.  Oh well, I still like it.

Dinky Dyes Hand Dyed Silk in Trick or Treat – Value $4.50

This one stands out so much against the others.  I think the touch of brightness is nice (and Halloween-appropriate).

Sampler Threads “The Gentle Art” – Value $2.40 (?)

Easy to work with 6-stranded floss.  Couldn’t find this one in the StitchyBox shop so the value is a guess.

Weeks Dye Works in Kris; Bon Bon – Value $4 (?)

Pretty sure this brand has appeared in StitchyBox before.  But I liked it and found it pretty easy to use.  This doesn’t seem to be available in the StitchyBox shop yet, either.

I made little squares with all the threads.  From left to right: (1) Weeks Dye Works in Kris; Bon Bon, (2) Dinky Dyes Hand Dyed Silk in Trick or Treat, (3) Fiberlicious Spun Silk in Imperial Purple, (4) The Pure Palette by Elements Soy Luster Shadows in “After Midnight,” (5) Planet Earth Fiber in Green Foliage, and (6) Sampler Threads “The Gentle Art”.  All stitches were made with two strands (which was probably too thick for #4).  The fabric is from my stash.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $38 for this month’s StitchyBox.  This is a little above the cost of the box.  Now, a lot of those values are guesses.  The threads, especially, are from small producers and may be exclusives or limited runs, so the values for those certainly might be higher.  If you are interested in trying different threads and other stitching accessories, this subscription is a fun way to just that.

For what it’s worth, I think I was supposed to get this a few weeks ago but somehow it got sent to my old address and made its way through the forwarding system.  I contacted customer service and got squared away within a few hours.
