Angels' Cup is a coffee subscription box that sends blind shipments of freshly roasted coffee bean samples, but it’s more than just a coffee subscription — it’s a tasting experience!

AngelsCup-May-2016-Label

Angels' Cup labels their coffee samples with only a roast date and a unique code. They encourage subscribers to blind taste the coffee, and to try and pick out its notes and flavors. Using either the Angels’ Cup app or the included tasting cards, you can compare your tasting notes with the experts. Over time, this can help you develop the ability to pick out subtle flavors in coffee with only a sniff or a sip!

Freshness is a top priority for Angels' Cup, and they ensure a 24 hour turnaround time between receiving freshly roasted beans, packing them, and shipping them out to subscribers.

Subscribers can choose to have their beans sent whole, coarsely ground (for French press coffee), or finely ground (for drip coffee).

Angels' Cup ships every week, but subscribers can adjust their preferences online to receive boxes less frequently.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

AngelsCup-May-2016-Cards1

Angels' Cup includes individual tasting cards that match up with each of the coffees they send.

To guide your tasting, you can use either the provided tasting cards or the Angels’ Cup App.

AngelsCup-May-2016-App1

The app is really simple and fun to use.

It’s definitely possible to do a tasting without the App, but I think it adds a lot to the experience.

For a full walk-through of how to do a guided cupping using the Angels’ Cup App, check out my past Angels' Cup reviews.

Angels’ Cup sends coffee with a light or medium roast (which is my preference), and I love that they source from top “third wave” roasters. I’ve been extremely impressed with both the roasters and coffees that I’ve received from Angels’ Cup, and this shipment is no exception. I particularly enjoyed the Spearhead Ethiopia Misty Valley. With flavors like blueberry, muffin, and peach, it’s a perfect breakfast coffee!

(Note: each of the 2.75 oz. samples included in The Black Box provided enough beans to make a cup for the tasting, plus an additional small pot.)

AngelsCup-May-2016-Promo

This box also included a coupon for Hello Fresh.

Verdict: I really enjoy Angels' Cup! I like the guided tastings, and I’ve come to expect delicious, high quality beans in every box. At $21.99, this isn’t a high value subscription, but I do think Angels’ Cup sends great coffee and provides a unique blind tasting experience. If you’re interested in sampling quality coffee from top third wave roasters, I can definitely recommend this subscription.

We recently received our first shipment of coffees from Angels’ Cup and do not care for it. We LOVE coffee!!! We grind our own beans every morning and brew in a french press. We tried our first pack from this shipment last weekend and I poured my cup out immediately. The flavor was sour and terrible to me. We tried another today and I couldn’t drink this one either.
I was really excited about a coffee subscription and discovering new brands, but, so far, am not impressed 🙁
