ZEN BOX wants to help you “build your collection, have fun & be well!”  Their website states that essential oils can aid help with anxiety, restlessness, pain relief, headaches, immune system, focus and vitality and that “almost all essential oils anti-fungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and antibacterial.”  If you’d like to know more about these claims, Kathy Hershelow, the founder of Sublime Beauty Naturals and ZEN BOX, just published a book on essential oils or there are plenty of other Internet sites with essential oil information.

The May ZEN BOX includes Tea Tree Oil, Lemon Oil, and Focus Essential Oil Blend.

The only written material included in the box was a business card.  I was happy to have a phone number to call if I had questions (this is rare in the subscription box world!)   I’ve emailed ZEN BOX several times for information and received a response within the day – typically within hours.  So far, my customer services experience has been superb!

The information on each product and how to use it was sent in an email as a link to a PDF document which you can see by clicking on this link. I found the information very valuable and was happy to discover new ways to use my essential oils.

Everyone is different but I’d rather read my information online and print it if needed.  Most of my documents are stored digitally anyway.

Zen Tea Tree Oil $23.00 (on sale for $14.99)

We love tea tree oil in our house!  I put it on any blemishes starting to show and use it to disinfect surfaces when cleaning.  The ZEN BOX May document provided many more ideas for how to use this oil too.  Plus, I learned tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil were used to kill MRSA (you know, that deadly antibacterial resistant infection that has been in the news) on a leg wound in an Australian hospital.

Zen Lemon Oil – $20.00 (on sale for $12.99)

I don’t own any lemon oil so I was really happy to see this in the box.  Right away I made some salt body scrub (2:1 salt to oil plus essential oil)!  I also look forward to using this oil in my cleaning products and I’m going to make an insect repellent with lemon and peppermint oil.

The ZEN BOX information says lemon oil can be used as/for the following:

  • Anti-bacterial in the diffuser or in cleaners
  • Wood polish
  • Protect and preserve leather
  • Liver supporter/protector
  • Help with nausea
  • Insect repellent
  • And many, many more!

Zen Focus Essential Oil Blend – $25.00 (on sale for $15.99)

I’ve used this several times in my diffuser and I like it.  I’ve been using the Bliss Essential Oil Blend from last month a lot and this is similar to me (it must be the citrus scents) but not as strong.  I actually like the Bliss better but they are both really nice to smell.  I’ve been using this oil when I work from home hoping it is/will hope with my Focus.

The Zen Focus Essential Oil Blend is made from the following:

Organic Jojoba Oil & Sunflower Oil

Grapefruit

Lime

Black Pepper

Peppermint

Rosemary

Verdict:  I’m really enjoying ZEN BOX.  I love trying new oils each month and learning about their various uses.  The information ZEN BOX sends has been one of the best parts for me.  I know there is a ton of information online but I’m more motivated to learn about new oils I receive monthly.  Plus, ZEN BOX customer service is great!  I emailed them several times last month to ask questions and received responses right away.

These oils are not the cheapest you can find but remember that it’s important to buy essential oils from a reputable supplier since they are not regulated.  Many cheaper oils are cut with other oils and are not be pure.  ZEN BOX says their oils are 100% pure therapeutic quality and are gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC/MS) tested, which is the way essential oils are tested for purity.  The tests are conducted by Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS), a multinational company providing inspection, verification, testing and certification services.  I requested to see one of the GC/MS reports and ZEN BOX sent it to me the same day.  I’m certainly no expert but at this point I feel comfortable purchasing oils from ZEN BOX.

I’m happy with the value too.  The box costs $39 (without a promotion or coupon) and ZEN BOX promises a value of $59.99 which seems fair to me.  The full price value of just the oils is $68 and the current sale price value of the oils is $43.97 which is still more than the cost of the full price box.

I am totally the opposite, I like getting printed material. I don’t have a smartphone or tablet and it is not always convenient to lug my laptop with me all over the house.

Tea tree oil is also good on athlete’s foot. I probably have a lifetime supply of it (as in, multiple 4 fl oz oz bottles).

Lemon oil is really useful for getting sticky things off of books, etc. I use it to take labels off of dishware and all sorts of things – a natural goo gone!

I didn’t know that! If much rather use lemon oil than goo gone. Thanks!
