Comic Bento Subscription Box Review + Coupon June 2016 - Faith

Faith Volume 1 - Value $9.99

I'd heard so much about Faith leading up to receiving this volume. That alone made me excited - I had almost purchased the first issue a couple times, and now I'm happy I waited.

From Amazon:

Orphaned at a young age, Faith Herbert - a psionically gifted "psiot" discovered by the Harbinger Foundation - has always aspired to greatness. But now this once ordinary teenager is taking control of her destiny and becoming the hard-hitting hero she's always known she can be - complete with a mild-mannered secret identity, unsuspecting colleagues, and a day job as a reporter that routinely throws into her harms way! Well, at least she thought it would… When she's not typing up listicles about cat videos, Faith makes a secret transformation to patrol the night as the City of Angels' own leading superhero - the sky-soaring Zephyr!

But flying solo is going to be tougher than she ever thought when Zephyr uncovers a deep-rooted alien conspiracy. Two-bit burglars and car thieves are one thing, but when the world needs a hero to stave off an full-blown extraterrestrial invasion, will Faith find herself in over her head…or ready for her biggest challenge yet?

I read the first issue in this 4-issue volume, and it's fun and entertaining. I'm excited to finish it up!

Comic Bento Subscription Box Review + Coupon June 2016 - Harbinger

Harbinger Volume 2: Renegades - Value $14.99

The second Valiant volume is Harbinger - which also has a Faith tie-in, which makes reading all of these volumes extra fun this month.

From Amazon:

Led by omega-powered psionic Toyo Harada, the Harbinger Foundation is a secret organization that has controlled and subverted the course of recent history. With a secret army of psychic soldiers at his command, no one has dared defy Toyo Harada's plans for the human race — until now! Harada's most powerful student, Peter Stanchek, has discovered the true nature of the Harbinger Foundation and he will stop at nothing to prevent Harada's vision from coming to pass. With a classified list of Harada's next recruits in hand, it falls to Peter to draft the next generation of empowered youth and form the frontline in humanity's resistance to the Harbinger Foundation. Peter. Kris. Zephyr. Flamingo. Torque. Their fight for the future comes out of the shadows and into the Valiant Universe when "Renegades" begins.

This collects issues 6-10 of the run - It's rare that they include anything except a Volume 1 of a series, but this leads directly into our next volume...

Comic Bento Subscription Box Review + Coupon June 2016 - Harbinger Wars

Harbinger Wars - Value $14.99

This is the beginning of a Valiant crossover event series. You can see that it also includes Faith and Bloodshot from the cover.

From Amazon:

Harbinger Wars, Valiant’s first crossover event, begins here! Two dozen undisciplined, untested, and untrained superhuman children have just escaped from a top-secret research facility and into the world. When Bloodshot, Toyo Harada, and Peter Stanchek join the chase, will the Valiant Universe be ready for its first all-out superhuman showdown?

I could be wrong, but this month is unique that they've included such tie-in volumes from Valiant - it's a cool idea for these months that feature a publisher.

Comic Bento Subscription Box Review + Coupon June 2016 - Armor Hunters

Armor Hunters Volume 1 - Value $14.99

The final Valiant volume is Armor Hunters. This is also a Valiant even series - featuring a stolen X-O Manowar armor!

From Amazon:

Earth will be the greatest hunt of all when Valiant First unleashes the first issue of 2014's must-read crossover event — Armor Hunters — from superstar creators Robert Venditti (Green Lantern, The Flash) and Doug Braithwaite (Unity)! A relentless and surgical strike team from the farthest reaches of space — sworn to exterminate the X-O Manowar armor and all like it — have finally found their final target. They will hunt. They will trap. They will kill. And they will rid the universe of the X-O Manowar's incalculable destructive power...even if it means taking the Earth with it!

I know Valiant is a highly praised publisher - and I need to sit down and read more and more! Right now, Book of Death is the only one that I've kept up with - time to binge on Valiant!

Verdict: I really liked this month's Comic Bento! They've done publisher focused boxes in the past, so it's not new, but I can't remember such titles with tie-ins to each other! For that reason, I wasn't able to read them all for this review, but it's going to be a blast to read them in order.

As my first comic box, I was a little disappointed. I like first issues and stories that aren’t broken in continuity. This feels a little like a crossover customer grab.
