HH - Sweet Summer Nights Soy Candle (8oz) - $16.00

This lemongrass and citronella scented candle is limited edition.  The full sized version is 12oz and is said to keep you bug free on summer nights.  So light it up just before going outside.  It smells really good too, but I didn’t find it as fragrant as it’s predecessors.

HH - Hey Hot Stuff Matchbook Pair - $4.00

These matches are currently sold out online.  I don’t have a need for matches at the moment, but cute matches complement this subscription very well.

Verdict: I’m already getting low on last month’s candle. This month, Handmade Habitat Candle Subscription had an estimated retail value of $20.00 which is lower than the last two months. My verdict is virtually the same as before. I love the candles, I know they are hefty items to ship, but another item of value should to come into play for the subscriber to appreciate the overall value, experience and quality of the subscription service. I find this subscription has great quality, and fit perfectly around my home. The only thing missing is value.

Was really interested in this box, but it seems that the value consistently isn’t there. So, off my list it goes!

There are other candle monthly subs that give you waaaay more bang for your buck. They somehow manage to pack and ship them and provide value well over the sub price, so it’s absolutely doable.

Quality, handmade candles are more costly to make than you might think. More so with soy, and especially beeswax. Not saying this is a good deal, but don’t expect the type of “value” you perceive with lower priced candles made from inferior materials and/or mass manufacturers. Good test…they should melt to the edge when burned an hour for every inch in diameter. Otherwise it’s wasteful, and you burn a hole down the center. Don’t think you’re “saving” an expensive candle by only burning it for short periods because you’ll get less from it overall. I once tested my own 4″ against a Pier One 4″ and one of them never burned past 2″. Never bought a candle there again! 😉
