Each Beauty Box 5 comes with a description card. This month's theme is Spa Day!

Did Hair Spa Day Hair Ties - Value $6.50

Hair ties are always useful, and that cucumber print one is just too cute!

Olive Natural Beauty Elixir - 1 oz Value $18

This is a super lightweight oil. In fact, it's closer to water than oil in consistency. It's all natural, unscented, and gentle, plus it left my skin feeling soft and smooth. I'm a fan!

Global Beauty Care Retinol Spa Treatment Mask - Value $2

I've really gotten into sheet masks thanks to subscription boxes, but this one just wasn't for me. It was way more goopy than a typical sheet mask, and just felt a little too slimy to leave on my face for 20 minutes!

beauty-box-5-august-2016-3

VO5 Hot Oil Therapy Treatment - Value $2.59

I feel like I grew up seeing VO5 hot oil commercials - this item was a total throwback to the '90s! I had never actually tried it, though, so since the '90s are making a comeback this year, it seemed like a good time to start!

To use the oil, you warm it up first under hot water, then massage into your hair for a minute, then rinse out. (Follow with your regular shampoo routine.) I like that this was a quick treatment, the oil had a lovely beachy/floral scent, and I wasn't expecting it to lather - but it did!

Unfortunately, I can't say I really noticed a difference in the softness of my hair, but maybe I did some damage control!

Rave 4X Mega Unscented Hairspray - 1.5 oz (Bonus item) Value $.25?

This item wasn't included in the card, but an unscented hairspray is always a nice bonus! This hairspray provided pretty good hold, and the travel size is convenient.

Both the VO5 Oil and the Rave Hairspray also came with coupons:

Nika Exfoliating Brush - Value $17

This is the SOFTEST. BRUSH. EVER!

beauty-box-5-august-2016-9

It's designed to be used as an alternative to a Clarisonic for gently exfoliating with your facial cleanser. I absolutely love how this feels on my skin. I've used it on dry skin, too - love it!

Verdict: This month's Beauty Box 5 has a value of about $47.50. Most of the items are hits for me, so I'm happy with the value - and I like the spa box theme!

Liz you changed your photo girlfriend! Very adorable! Your doggie should of been in the photo too because he is one of your furry team members. Everytime I am tryin to take a pretty photo of a box to put on instagram my cat Moopee has to either be in the photo or he has to walk by when I am taking it or just parks it and sits on everything….
Sorry back to Beauty Box five this box has been looking pretty good lately.. A lot of stuff I wouldnt buy but very nice to have…. Does anyone get emails somethings from BB5 that can sometimes make you say WHAT?They are very Interesting though. I will keep eyeing this box….

I thought this month’s box was okay.

I canceled. Global beauty care I’ve seen so many times at 99cent or dollar tree same for the vo5 oil. The only thing worth anything was the brush

I was really excited about the Olive product, but it literally seems like plain water is in my bottle. How can it be like water if it has oils in it and how can it have NO scent with things like lavender in it? I was worried I’d gotten a fake bottle. What’s up?

Yet another box with 3 drugstore products you can get for under $1each. Yawn…. As I stated in another post, my love affair is ending with subs when the products offered are readily available. I want higher end samples not VO5 from the 70’s.

Lorraine

You’ll need to pay for a higher end box. Try New Beauty Test tube or Wantable. They cost a bit more, but the value and products are better.

That’s something I’m thinking about, Lorraine: how teeny can the samples be, at a great value, and still make me happy? 🙂 Sephora is not doing it. They’re a big company. They could do better.

I am interested in both Birchbox and Ipsy, but have seen people complain about small samples in there, too, I think?

So that does mean paying more. Not sure what to try next…

Kp

I liked Sephora July box. The samples were small but were actually all the way full. I thought it wasn’t and left it upside down n was going to put it tother but it was 99 percent full

I love that Nika brush! It feels sooo good just to rub against my face even when dry! 🙂

Am I the only one really disappointed in this month’s box? Besides the brush, this month seemed like the creaters took a trip to their local Dollar Tree. It’s cool that the have affordable items… but I also want luxury in my beauty boxes! Am I the only one who feels this way?

Reply ButtonReply

Sun

I feel that way, though I don’t mind if the items are inexpensive. I just want to try new things that are pretty and useful and some fun things. I have had BB5 for a while now. It was getting better which was why I stayed, but now I just feel like the items are not worth it to me. I get a lot of inexpensive goodies from ipsy too, but I find I can actually use them, and that makes it worth it to me-especially since they also include little luxuries, and I always use my bag to organize things or to give away.

My mom used to use those VO5 hot oil treatments and I used to use them growing up too. I liked them. Usually I can find a 3 pack at the dollar tree in my town.

Liz, you are making me feel old! Just kidding. I saw VO5 hot oil treatment ads on tv in the ’70s! I love your reviews. For such a young gal, you’ve taught me a lot about many products that I never knew that I couldn’t live without, in the last couple of years. lol!

Victoria

Yep, 80s girl here and I grew up seeing Rave and VO5 everywhere. I’ve tried VO5 hot oil several times and it never did much for me, but back then that was an indulgent treatment for my hair LOL. Rave and AquaNet might be the main reasons for the big 80s hair LOL. Some strong stuff!

Helen

I didn’t know they still made VO5 Hot Oil treatment. You’re right Donna it has been around a lot longer than the 90s. I remember my mom using this in the late 1960s. I am officially ancient. 😉

Aria

I didn’t know they still made Rave hairspray either. I used it in the eighties, along with my dippity-doo.

I am thinking about subing to BB5. I like that they don’t do a whole lot of expensive brands like allure and some other sub boxes. Pretty much everything I get in my allure beauty box seems to be pretty pricey so if I were to LOVE a product I sampled I would never be able to afford to go out and buy the full size. But I feel most of the products in BB5 are pretty reasonably priced so I could actually go buy the full sized if I wanted to. I really like that in a beauty box.

Ive got my eye on you BB5.

You have a good idea there! It depends on how many products you want to have though. I’m doing beauty subs because until recently I didn’t really know much about skin care and make up. I just used a favorite face wash and moisturizer and rarely wore make up. Now I am learning what looks good on me and what I find worth the time and expense to use. I want things that I can use quickly; so I want things that are easy to use and pack the most punch without being overdone. Because of the simplicity in skin care and make up I am going for, it will be more affordable if I find just one face cream that is amazing for me, one blush that looks natural on me and an amazing lipstick that has 2 or 3 colors I love. I will then be able to stop buying subs and use the money for the few quality items. But I sure am having fun playing with all the variety I’m getting…there is just no way I’ll ever use them all. This summer I’m trying to weed through everything and pass along any that I just won’t get to.

I’ve been thinking about this one too! I did decide not to go for it this month, after seeing spoilers. Hopefully they’ll make me pull the trigger next month! (Since I plan on doing the 3 month sub)

I wish BB5 put a little more creativity and detail into their packaging. Especially since it isn’t even the cheapest box out there unless you spend $100 at once.

I loved this box due to the brush, it really is the softest brush I have ever felt. I swapped the hairspray and have the oil up for swap but still consider this a win box for me. I also liked the hair ties, I have never had these before and was wanting to try them. I sub this by the 3 month term so it’s only $10 a pop.

Didn’t like this box and brush wasn’t a hit for me since I had just gotten the Bare Minerals facial brush. It’s similar to that brush and $18 but congress with a deep exfoliation feature. The other products were junk. If you take out the oil and the brush nothing else had any value. Personally for me in a beauty box I like to see at least 3 of 5 items double the cost of the box.
