Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty - Retail Value $26.99 (On Amazon for $16.19)

Book Summary from Amazon:

In Truly Madly Guilty, Liane Moriarty turns her unique, razor-sharp eye towards three seemingly happy families.

Sam and Clementine have a wonderful, albeit, busy life: they have two little girls, Sam has just started a new dream job, and Clementine, a cellist, is busy preparing for the audition of a lifetime. If there’s anything they can count on, it’s each other.

Clementine and Erika are each other’s oldest friends. A single look between them can convey an entire conversation. But theirs is a complicated relationship, so when Erika mentions a last minute invitation to a barbecue with her neighbors, Tiffany and Vid, Clementine and Sam don’t hesitate. Having Tiffany and Vid’s larger than life personalities there will be a welcome respite.

Two months later, it won’t stop raining, and Clementine and Sam can’t stop asking themselves the question: What if we hadn’t gone?

In Truly Madly Guilty, Liane Moriarty takes on the foundations of our lives: marriage, sex, parenthood, and friendship. She shows how guilt can expose the fault lines in the most seemingly strong relationships, how what we don’t say can be more powerful than what we do, and how sometimes it is the most innocent of moments that can do the greatest harm.

I'm a fan of Liane Moriarty after reading The Husband's Secret, so I was extra excited about this book when I saw it was in the box!

The first chapter immediately sucked me in, and while I'm seeing this book doesn't have as good of reviews as her other books, I already need to know what happened at this barbecue!

Franklin Street Studio Crepe de Chine Scarf - Value $38

This scarf is hand painted! I love the watercolor look of this scarf, and the semi-sheer material is a perfect match for the colors. It goes well with a Summer box too, but I'm already in fall mode, so this scarf may have to wait a while to be worn!

ONA Cookies in Maple Pecan and Brownie - Value $6 total

Yay for gluten-free and dairy-free cookies! These cookies are made with almond flour, pecans, maple syrup, coconut oil, and honey. I liked both (these packages were empty shortly after this picture was taken), but the Maple Pecan was my favorite.

Tracy Stern Tea & Co. No. 8 Park Organic Black Ceylon Iced Tea - Value $20

My husband and I are both big iced tea drinkers, so this is another win in the box for us! It's just pure 100% organic black tea, and I even like it unsweetened.

Each tea bag produces 2 quarts of tea. (There are 6 bags.)

Verdict: This box has a value of about $80 (that's with the discounted Amazon sale price of the box). I think that's a good value if you sign up with the $5 off for life coupon ($60 a month). Cozy Reader Club is still on the high-end in terms of cost for a monthly book box, so it probably isn't for everyone, but I think they do an excellent job delivering on their promise of what you can expect in a box, and everything always feels special! This box is definitely about the experience!

I LOVE the non-book items this box sends but the book choices are a little… I don’t know… girly for me? I would die if they came out with a mystery book version of this box. Finally, though, the goodies in this box were a total miss for me. They had the consistency of gritty taffy and tasted… healthy. Yick.

I am starting to feel the same way about the book choices. Girly is a good word. None would have been books I picked up for myself but I’m hanging in there for now because I love the rest of the contents and I’m willing to give most books a try. I ended up liking The Children a lot, so you never know.

I SO hear you!

This is one the boxes that I most wish I could afford to gift myself. That said, the scarf this month doesn’t seem to fit the season very well, though it looks great with the book cover. I would have wanted to see a fine/light Australian wool scarf. The included tea has gorgeous packaging (you can purchase refills online for about half the cost of the tin if you want to keep that tin on your counter). Again, though, there are so many Australian tea brands. I have read all of Liane Moriarty’s books and I am about halfway through Truly Madly Guilty. I actually like it just as much, so far, as her past books.

I did, too! Also cancelled BOTM because I subscribe to Muse Monthly as well!

Diane

I think I would enjoy this box. Decisions, decisions.

The scarf is so pretty and those colors would coordinate equally well with brown, grey or black. A leather jacket would help toughen it up enough to transistion into fall with.

I didn’t even think about mixing it with a darker grey – I love that idea! Thank you!!
