Each Home Made Luxe box comes with step-by-step, detailed instructions on how to assemble the project. There is also a link to an instructional video which is a nice added source to have! The instructions are super helpful and I love how they include visuals along with the printed directions.
Materials included:
Jumbo Craft Sticks, Paint Brush, Tacky Glue, Gel Stain in Walnut, & a Rose ball. The materials that you will need are a plate for paint & a nail to hang the shelf.
Let’s get started!
The first step was to lay the craft sticks into a hexagon shape. The tricky part about this is you have to make sure the sticks are lined up perfect because this is the base of your shelf.
Next, you glue the sticks together with the tacky glue provided.
Continue to layer the remaining craft sticks, glue, layer and repeat until you use all the sticks provided. It is extremely important that you align the sticks carefully as you go before they dry so your shelf will look in unison. Once all the craft sticks are used you let the shelf dry completely. I let it dry overnight.
Now that the shelf is completely dry you can paint! Take the paint brush & gel stain provided. Place the gel on a plate and get painting! I used a few coats so my shelf would have that deep walnut color.
Be mindful of painting between the sticks on the side so you don’t have naked spots. After the gel stain has completely dried (I let it dry overnight) you can now place your rose ball on the shelf & hang!
I’m extremely happy with my end product! To be completely honest I was scared the shelf would look ultra-cheap since I made it out of craft sticks. I thought it would look like a bunch of popsicle sticks thrown together with paint. However, to my pleasant surprise it looks pretty legit!
Verdict: Another fabulous box from Home Made Luxe! In all this project took me around an hour to complete. The majority of time spent was waiting on the glue & gel stain to dry. I cannot get enough of this sub because they provide you with enough instructions that it’s almost impossible to screw it up. I also like how it doesn’t take you a million hours to complete the projects they provide. I can’t wait to hang this in my office! As always- this box is perfect for someone like me: someone who wants to be crafty and DIY’y but is too lazy to get the supplies or look up a project. I give my stamp of approval for this box!
What do you think about July’s Home Made Luxe box? Did anyone else make the hexagon shelf?
