Puppy Pirates: X Marks the Spot by Erin Soderberg - Value $4.99

At one point, my eight-year-old wanted us to change our last name to Police Puppies, so he got a kick out of the idea of Pirate Puppies! From Amazon:

Ahoy, mateys! Set sail for fun and adventure on a pirate ship full of puppies!

Wally and his human friend, Henry, have passed the test. They are now officially puppy pirates - and just in time for an exciting new adventure. A treasure hunt! The puppies sail to a deserted island with treasure map in paw, ready to dig. But uh-oh! This island isn't deserted after all. . . .

Two perennial kid favorites - dogs and pirates - combine in this new chapter-book series perfect for fans of the Rainbow Magic series and all things piratey!

Pirate's Booty Aged White Cheddar Popcorn - Value about $1

My kids love Pirate's Booty, so this was an instant win for them! As junk food goes, this isn't too bad, so I'm okay with it.

Surprise Ride always sends a couple of toys to go along with the theme. I was kind of confused about what all the box contents were when I was photographing them, so I thought the chest was a toy, but it's actually part of the supplies for one activity. The rubber bracelet on top is one of the toys. It seems like for the past few months, Surprise Ride has been sending rubber bracelets that go with the theme. My kids aren't really into them, but I'm sure lots of kids are.

Ahoy Matey Sticker Book - Value $3.50

Interestingly, my son has already received this exact same sticker book twice thanks to subscription boxes! It's a great one, but he is going to pass this along to his little cousin.

These are the rest of the supplies we were sent to decorate our treasure chest (above).

SurpriseRideAugust2016-014

This is my son's completed treasure chest! He painted it gold and then encrusted it with jewels. How decadent! He put all the leftover jewels inside, which I thought was pretty smart.

SurpriseRideAugust2016-011

Our second activity was to create a treasure map. These are the supplies that were included.

SurpriseRideAugust2016-015

This is my son's completed map! He hid the treasure first, then he drew this map so that I could find the treasure. It worked! The map itself looks kind of messy, but this was his first time creating a legend, so I think he got a little bogged down with that.

Verdict: Surprise Ride is so fun! What little kid doesn't love pirates and treasure? We had a great time with the activities this month, and my son is really getting into the book, too. Surprise Ride always picks such fun themes, and they're always a total surprise. We love that!
