There's a note from the founder, Heather, in each Bestowed Box. I like that she includes tips for living well to complement the healthy snacks.
Speaking of which, the list of all the items is on the flip side of the note. These definitely sound like tasty snacks—let's dig in!
Pop Corners Chips in Carnival Kettle, 1 oz. bag - Value $0.56
These chips are free of artificial ingredients and taste awesome. They have a great crispness to them. The flavor reminded me of sweet corn cereals—slightly sugary but satisfyingly savory.
Chia Crunch in Mixed Berries, 0.7 oz. bag - Value $3.99
These little snacks are made from freeze-dried berries and lots of organic, fair-trade chia seeds. They feel light and airy in your hand and kind of dissolve in your mouth, which I wasn't a huge fan of. But these snacks are jam-packed with healthy ingredients and they're definitely unlike any snack I've ever seen before.
Slant Shack Classic Beef Jerky, 1 oz. bag - Value $7.49
I'm a vegetarian, so I had to pass these snacks on to a meat eater for a taste review (the verdict is... really good and flavorful!). I appreciate though that this beef is grass-fed and that Slant Shack uses non-GMO, quality ingredients. The packaging is cute, too—something I never thought I'd say about a bag of beef jerky!
Six Elephantea Bags - Value $1.50
These tea bags made lovely cups of organic Black Tea Ginger, Green Tea Lemon, Black Tea, Green Tea, Green Chai, and Chamomile. Nothing extraordinary, but certainly tasty on a chilly, early-fall night. The thing that sets these teas apart is that a portion of their proceeds goes to elephant conservation efforts in Sri Lanka. I'm a big elephant fan (and a tea fan), so I loved seeing these in the box!
Simply Organic Spice Right Everyday Blends in Pepper and More, 2.2 oz. - Value $3.99
Oh wow, does this spice blend smell amazing. It's the rich, peppery flavor you'd expect in a steakhouse dinner—black pepper, chilies, garlic, onion, bell pepper, and sea salt. There's a note on the bottle saying it's great on eggs, so I'm eager to toss a few pinches into a breakfast scramble. Not an egg fan? Note that this extremely flavorful spice blend is vegan!
Smarty Pants Adult Complete + Fiber Gummy Vitamins, One Sample Packet - Value $0.96
These gummy vitamins for adults are a great idea. They have that familiar candy feeling with way more health benefits than the candy you'd find at the checkout counter. These vitamins are non-GMO, gluten-free, allergen-free, and use natural ingredients. They aren't vegetarian, though—across a day's serving of six gummies, Smarty Pants packs a dose of Omega 3 fish oil. Unfortunately, there are only two gummies in this Sample Packet, but there's nothing fishy about the flavor.
5 Single-Serving Packs of Natural Calm Anti-Stress Drink in Raspberry Lemon, 0.12 oz - Value $2.04
I can be a real ball of stress sometimes, but I've never considered taking a supplement for it. The flavor of this powder is sort of a pink lemonade taste. Not bad. I tried a glass before bed and didn't feel any immediate impact. Now that I'm reading about it, though, it sometimes takes a few days of use before the magnesium really does its magic. I'm probably too much of a skeptic to add this product to my daily routine. The effects sure are tempting though!
Jasmine Seven Fresh Feet Wipes Twin Pack - Value $4.95
I've heard of antibacterial wipes for your hands, but ones for your feet? This pack comes with two pre-moistened wipes. They're packaged in separate compartments in the package, so you could hypothetically use one and keep the other for later. As someone who walks through town a lot, I try my best not to think about all of the pollution and other... stuff my feet pick up in a day. Using these wipes made me feel a bit less scuzzy after walking home from the store. Plus, their cooling effect was instantly relaxing for my busy feet!
Finally, the box included some coupons for Cabot dairy products, Simply Organic products, and GlossyBox (yippee!).
Verdict: This month's Bestowed Home Box was full of unconventional treats and healthy finds. I would never have expected something like those chia seed snacks nor the Calm supplement to even exist before opening this box! While I don't know that I'll add these items to my grocery list from here on in, it was a lot of fun exploring new flavors and healthy alternatives. The value of the box (about $25.00) is just above its price ($20.00), so you're getting what you pay for. I can't wait to see what's in next month's assortment!
Did you recognize any of the snacks in this month's Bestowed box? What are your fave healthy picks?
