Julep Maven is a monthly nail polish and beauty subscription box. They make all their own products, so subscribers get a good value each month – over $40 retail worth of product for $24.99 a month.
And, if you sign up for 3-months up front, you get the $19.99 rate.
Each month Julep releases a new collection on the 20th, and you can decide which box you want, you can upgrade to the entire collection, or you can skip that month.
My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Clean Slate Polish Remover Single-Use Pad Kit – Retail Value $14 each
I received two of these in my mystery box.
In order to be able to use add-on items with the coupon code, I first added the mystery box to my cart, then started the checkout process. I then added the Clean Slate polish remover kit to my cart. This was priced at $4.99 as an add-on. Next, I clicked back to the part of the website where you can do more shopping. Then I went back into my cart and increased the number of polish remover kits in my cart to 2 instead of 1. I then added my coupon code OCT10. The coupon code subtracted $9.98 (the price of the 2 polish remover kits) from my order.
Doing this allowed me to add 2 Clean Slate polish remover kits which would normally retail for $28 total to my mystery box at no additional cost.
These kits each contain 10 individually wrapped, disposable, pre-soaked felt pads for polish removal. These are great for travel and I have found them to work well on all polish except for glitters. I first tried these when a forum friend included a couple in a swap with me as an extra and I really like them!
Let’s dive into the box itself!
Brilliance Glycolic Hand & Body Scrub – Retail Value $32
Julep says this has “natural apricot seed microbeads and a potent concentration of glycolic acid that instantly reveals brighter, smoother skin.” They also note that this “product contains an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) that may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn.”
I have used it a few times so far on my hands and I do think they look brighter somehow. They definitely are softer and smoother. I have not tried it on the rest of my body yet, but will do so soon. So far I am a fan! The scrub is paraben and sulfate free. It has a foil seal.
Julep Orbital Eyeshadow – Retail Value $18
This eyeshadow was in Terra which Julep describes as a “Terracotta with Silver Pearlescence.”
The eyeshadow is deeply pigmented and can be worn all day. It blends and builds easily as well. Julep now offers this in 9 different colors. I have tried some of the other colors before and I like the formula. It is paraben and sulfate free. Here is it swatched:
The rest of the mystery box contained 4 nail colors. That photo is very accurate regarding the true color of all 4 of these nail polishes.
At first glance, I thought it looked like a kind of odd combination of colors, but I realized while swatching and playing around them that these are actually well-suited for Halloween costumes, parties, dressing up, etc.
Julep spoiled that the following 2 colors would be in the box:
Julep Nail Color in Xena – Retail Value $14 (glow-in-the-dark glitter top coat)
This is a glitter topcoat that can also be worn alone. Must-see action shots below!
Julep Nail Color in Johnny – Retail Value $14 (true black crème)
I don’t know if this was named after Johnny Depp, but it think it is extremely likely.
The mystery box also contains:
Julep Nail Color in Laure – Retail Value $14 (blazing red-orange stardust)
I think this is the first time I have tried a stardust polish from Julep. I love it! I will definitely be trying more ASAP.
Julep Nail Color in Virginia – Retail Value $14 (mahogany iridescent molten)
To me, this has more red in it than I would have expected based on the description.
All Julep nail color uses a 5-free, vegan-friendly formula that is breathable and includes strengthening ingredients.
Here are all the colors in different lighting:
Okay, I know I promised must-see action shots on Xena.
That is Xena on its own. No tricks here, folks.
My kids think this looks like a lightsaber. My daughters wanted in.
My son wanted in (on his toes only)!
Verdict: This mystery box cost $24.99 and promised $100+ worth of beauty and nail products. The retail value of the 2 beauty items and 4 polishes in the mystery box itself add up to $106 (or $84.80 if you are a Julep Maven and can enjoy the discount). Plus, I was able to use the promo code to get another $28 worth of polish remover at no additional cost. Either way, I think this is an awesome value and personally feel that Xena alone is worth the price of admission. As of right now, the mystery box is still available, but it won’t be for long.
I’m very happy with this mystery box! What do you think of the Bewitched Glow Mystery Box?
