Mom’s Popped Lotus Seeds (1.5 oz.) - Value $5.49

Something new and interesting to try! I’ve never seen popped lotus seeds before. These are airy and a tiny bit of salt and butter on them. I didn’t love the flavor of them, but I did enjoy the texture.

Super Seedz Gourmet Pumpkin Seeds (5 oz.) – Value $8.91

I love pumpkin seeds and I love maple syrup so this is a winning combination for me. These maple sugar and sea salt seeds are crunchy, gluten-free, high in protein and are just the right mix of salty and sweet. This is a generous sized bag too!

Pourfect Beaker - Value $5.00?

Pourfect products were invented by owner Randy Kaas when he lost his sight in 2001. The idea of the Pourfect beakers is that they have flat edge spouts, therefore eliminating drips, a comfort grip that fits easily in the hand and they are also dishwasher and microwave safe. This beaker was much better at pouring without dripping than my glass measuring cup that I normally use.

I can’t find the 1 cup beaker for sale individually but you can purchase a 3 piece (1, 2, and 4 cup) set on Amazon.

PS Seasoning & Spices Gluten-Free Blueberry Pancake Mix (16 oz.) - Value $6.99

This gluten-free pancake mix is made using rice flour. With an egg, some milk and butter you can have blueberry pancakes easily at home. This mix can also be adapted for use with a waffle maker. I’m going to pass this on to a friend who has recently adopted a gluten-free lifestyle and is on the hunt for yummy products!

Nuts Over Fish Cashew Topping  (3 oz.) - Value $6.99

This gluten-free crushed nut topping is made with cashews, sugar, garlic, orange peel, curry and other seasonings. You simply press the topping onto the surface of your favorite fish (chicken or vegetables), squeeze some lemon on top and bake. This was delicious. You really get the nuttiness of the cashews and the depth of flavor from the curry.

Nuts Over Fish makes numerous nut variations including pecan, pistachio and almond toppings.

Verdict: The Fall Mary’s Secret Ingredients box was tasty and a huge win for anyone that’s gluten-free! I love trying new foods, especially from smaller companies that I might not otherwise know about, and this subscription gives me the chance to do that. The value of this box is around $33 which although only breaks even with the cost of the box, I feel is good for a food box. I really like that Mary supports Feed the Children and promotes other companies that are giving back by highlighting them in her quarterly selections.

I have one more box left in my subscription and will probably not renew. The products have not wowed me and are very difficult to use. Ingredients are not often made in the US. Last month a jam had recipes on their (the jam’s) website using only metric measurements. This month the nuts over fish product has no recipes using the cashew product they sent. Last month they sent stale crackers, this month the popped lotus seeds were tasteless.

The beaker this month is kind of cool as it pours very easily without spills. I am disappointed it is only a one cup measurement, is made of plastic not glass and I’m sure the measurements will come off in the dishwasher.

I have had difficulty logging into the website with several 404 missing pages found. Their solution was to create a new account.

Nate from Mary's

Hi Kim,

Thank you for the feedback, regarding ingredients not made in the US, we do try to source unique products and are excited when we find something from another country that we think our subscribers will LOVE! Mary curates the products that she tries, loves, and wants to share, but they won’t always please all of our subscribers with varied preferences. We admit the Popped Lotus seeds had an acquired taste, but our team all ended up becoming obsessed with them! We are revamping our site and have run into spontaneous technical issues. We’re a young and very small company and doing our best to resolve things and improve as fast as possible.

I appreciate you pointing out areas of improvement and if you send us an email we’re happy to give you a special discount to continue your subscription 🙂

All the best,
Nate
