Glass Terrarium – Value $29.85 USD

The gift I was sent this month is this geometric glass terrarium, and they included an air plant as well. I think this is great – I love getting home décor items in subscription boxes and I think this is something that would fit in well with many different styles of décor.

Here’s how it looks empty and standing up. A bottom corner is cut so that it stands at a 45-degree angle perfectly.

They suggest filling the bottom with soil, gravel, and succulents but they also included this air plant which I really appreciate. It made me feel like I could use it right away and toss it on my mantel instead of waiting to get something to plant. They instructed to soak the air plant for a couple hours, placing it in your terrarium, and spritzing it with water regularly.

Verdict: I love this little terrarium! It’s something I didn’t have and I love how it fits into my home décor. The quality feels solid and I love the geometric design. I think this is one of my favorite items I’ve ever received from Not Another Bill. That being said, the value is a bit of a miss, at least as a US subscriber (~$30 for ~$46)… For European subscribers, the value would break even with the cost of the box, which is a better deal, but when I started with this subscription they seemed to send out much higher-value products. I like that they sent me something I probably wouldn’t go out to get on my own, but honestly, if I had decided to I could probably go to a craft shop or Hobby Lobby and get at least a couple similar items for the price I paid for this subscription. What I really like about this subscription is getting unique items from high-quality European brands and, while I love this gift and know I’ll use it, I know I probably could have bought a similar terrarium for less than the US cost.

I would never go to hobby lobby and make my own terrarium and it would never look as cool as this. So, I do think it’s a cool gift. BUT, like you said, I subscribed to this sub for cool Euro brands..not just cool stuff.
I had such high hopes for this sub! But after 3 months, I had to cancel. Anything I see that I like, I may just buy from their store.

Joana, I didn’t mean I’d make a terrarium like this! No way am I going to invest in a soldering iron or glass cutting… I just meant places like Hobby Lobby, Joanne’s, or Michaels often have decor items like this. At least the ones around me do. So, I’m with you on the no-crafting this thing. Thanks for reading!

Ha! Goes to show you how little I craft, because I had no idea craft stores sold these or what would go into making one anyway. I see this and think West Elm.
Thanks for reviewing these type of subscriptions!

Yes I was at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago and they have these terrariums in all different shapes for like $10 before any sales or using the 40% off 1 item coupon. I have been wanting to put some of these in my house. Love them!

My daughter and I made an identical terrarium from materials from DarbySmart (project instructions and shipping were free). Total cost was $13, with the air plants/succulents (set of 3) being the bulk of expense. While I agree it’s a unique item to send, by no means does it justify the price of this sub. This may be one of the most overpriced subs I’ve seen in over 4 years of testing various subs.

No The Oprah subscription still wins in terms of a rip off I think. At least this one can say shipping is pricy because it’s from UK.
