Cantina La Salute Bidoia Refosco 2015
This wine is made with the Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso grade which is indigenous to Northern Italy. This wine is aged in a combination of stainless steel and oak barrels. This was the wine my husband preferred this month. It was a little less dry and had a smooth finish.
Grosbois La Cuisine de Ma Mere Chinon 2015 - $25.99 (on sale currently for $19.99)
Domaine Grosbois is located in the Loire Valley in Chinon, France. This wine is unoaked and had a nice dry finish. It was bright and fruity and of the two wines sent this month this was the one I preferred.
Verdict: We brought both reds from Plonk Wine Club this month to a family dinner at our local pizzeria. With the weather turning cool here we switched our subscription to two bottles of red. Both wines paired well with the arugula salad with parmesan curls and the pasta with broccoli rabe and sausage. While we each had a different favorite this month, both wines were very good. This was a great month from Plonk! I’d like to note that if you fall in love with one of the wines they send you can order an entire case at a 16% discount with free shipping. If you appreciate being introduced to new wine from wineries with organic growing practices this is a nice subscription to try out.
