There was a standard information card in the box listing the items.
Natural Balance Platefulls Cat Food Pouch in Chicken and Pumpkin (3 oz) – Value $0.74
This was some sort of homogeneous chunks in gravy, but in general, I find Natural Balance to be a good brand, plus Sneaky and Madison ate this right up. (It kind of smelled. But that’s cat food for you.)
KitKat Bars (Halloween size, three) – Value $0.20 (?)
The only thing that has stopped me from eating these already is I have to look up how many calories are in them. But I am always happy to get chocolate and it is finally cool enough here that it didn’t melt (it helped that the mail carrier rolled up right as I got home to take Nyx out at noon). Regarding price, I am assuming the different varieties all cost the same and I am also assuming that one individually wrapped bar equals one serving,
Black Cat Ceramic Mug – Value $5.50
We got a white one of these in a previous Cat Kit box. Now I have a full set! (Actually, two full sets, since I already had a pair of these.) These are nice mugs that stand up to the dishwasher (top rack) and have a large capacity.
Candy Corn Catnip Toy from Imperial Cat – Value $9.99
Madison, in particular, enjoyed this, but all the cats were interested enough to sniff, at least. (The price seems a little high to me; however, I found it for MORE than this at other sites. The link above is to eBay.)
Gold Cat Ear Headband – Listed Value $5
Would you believe, I now have THREE cat ear headbands from subscription boxes? But they are all different, so there’s that. I am using the value from the information card because finding this particular one online is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Even with Google image searching. This would be fun to wear on Halloween if you don’t want to do a full costume.
Cat Bowtie from Sweet Pickles Designs – Value $7
Oh my goodness, I have so many cat bow ties from this company (thanks to PetPack). This one is pretty cute and also timely. I like that the Halloween-themed stuff came in early October instead of late in the month (like the boxes that send out Cinco de Mayo items at the end of May). My cats don’t wear collars, though, so I will be passing this along to someone else to enjoy. (I didn’t find this exact design on the Sweet Pickles Designs site, but all of their bowties of this style are priced the same.)
Katy Kat Matte Lipstick in “Crimson Cat” from Cover Girl (full size!) – Value $8.99
In my opinion, you can never go wrong with red lipstick. I have like 30 of them. Or possibly more. This one reminded me, color-wise, of Urban Decay’s 714 “Mega Matte” formula, but was much more moisturizing and actually comfortable to wear.
Here’s a swatch of the lipstick.
And here is an amazing webcam selfie of me wearing the lipstick. (Sorry, my husband wasn’t home to take a picture of me.)
Kitty photos coming up!
You would not believe how much “help” I had opening the box…
I offered the food to Monkey, Madison, and Sneaky.
Madison and Sneaky finished it off in record time.
Monkey liked the candy corn toy quite a bit.
Sneaky investigates some of the items from the box.
Close-up of Mr. Kitty!
(He did NOT want me to put the headband anywhere near him, though.)
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $37.42 for the October 2016 The Cat Kit. That comes in very close to the cost of the box (just a little bit under). This box usually is a little over the month-to-month value, so I am not too concerned about the small difference this month. I think over time, you will be doing OK, value-wise. Plus, be sure to use our MSA10 coupon code and/or purchase a multi-month subscription, which would make this a better deal. In terms of the items, I thought the Halloween theme was fun (and the items with “Kat” or “Cat” in the name was a fun sub-theme) and I did like the curation. I am pretty much always guaranteed to be happy with a box that has chocolate, red lipstick, and cat-related items, though…
What do you think of October’s The Cat Kit? Do you subscribe to any cat boxes?
