Here's this month's info card. Other subscription boxes, take note! I love that Yarn Crush includes coupons for pretty much everything they included this month: yarn, PomPom Quarterly, and the pattern designer shops. Also love the sneak peeks for upcoming boxes.
Stitch Please Sapphire Label in "Blood of thy Enemies" - Value $18.60
This month's yarn is a fingering weight, superwash merino and nylon blend by Canadian dyer Stitch Please. I thought the name of this colorway was perfect with Halloween coming up! This is a very rich red and I think it will be perfect for adding a pop of color to my fall wardrobe.
Morrow Hat & Fingerless Mitts knitting pattern set by Liesl Made - Value $5.50
Shawlhank Redemption crochet pattern by Lee-Anne Sartori - Value $5.99
(Looks like none of these patterns are available online yet, so we're linking to the designer's Ravelry pages instead!)
Yarn Crush included three patterns this month, two knitting and one crochet! The Morrow set includes a hat and fingerless gloves, while Shawlhank Redemption is a crochet shawl pattern. As a knitter, I was really happy to see that there is enough yardage to make both the hat and fingerless mitts! I can see all three of these working out beautifully with the included yarn.
All three are little-folded booklets with the pattern inside; one of the things I love about Yarn Crush is that the patterns are clearly presented and easy to carry around for knitting on the go.
PomPom Quarterly Autumn 2015 Issue - Value $14.50
I was so excited to see an issue of PomPom Quarterly in person! It's a UK publication so can be tough to find stateside. I have admired their patterns for a long time and this booklet does not disappoint. Almost 100 pages of beautiful photography and cold-weather knitting inspiration. This issue includes 10 full patterns, a pumpkin spice cake recipe, and a few other articles to help set the tone for the season. Since it's new to me (and hard to find in stores) I honestly don't mind that it's from last year.
This month, I didn't manage to start knitting just yet, because my needles are occupied still with last month's Sock Crush project! But of all the patterns offered, I think I'm going to cast on for the Morrow Fingerless Mitts first. Our house is drafty and now that fall is here, I am definitely feeling like I could use an extra layer when I'm working on my laptop for any length of time!
Verdict: This is my favorite month of Yarn Crush so far, in large part because of the inclusion of the PomPom Quarterly issue. I can't stop looking at it! I think the yarn and patterns included this month also have a more universal appeal than last month's box, and I can't wait to be wearing those fingerless mitts soon. This month, the value was also good: the retail value of the items in the box is more than the cost of the box + shipping, even if I take the crochet pattern out of the mix since I won't use it.
What do you think of the September Yarn Crush box? Are you working on any knit or crochet projects now that fall is here?
