The profile you fill out when you sign up for Bookü asks about their grade, age, reading level, interests and also has a spot for you to the book picker anything else you want them to know about your child. This helps them get to know your child well and figure out the best books for them. Our books were based on my son’s profile so your child may receive completely different books.
Mad Scientist Academy: The Dinosaur Disaster by Matthew McElligott - Value $13.45 on Amazon (retail $17.99)
In my son’s profile, I mentioned my son likes dinosaurs. This book strikes the perfect balance between teaching facts and tons of fun! I love the graphic novel layout and my son has been asking for repeated readings of this book about an interesting school with a science-based twist and dinosaur info galore.
Kingfisher Readers: Trucks by Thea Feldman - Value $12.99
My son is starting to outgrow his truck loving phase, but he was still excited to get this book. The photographs of real trucks and easy-to-read text made the book very approachable. He had fun locating sight words within the book while I helped him with the vocabulary that was unfamiliar.
Humphrey’s Creepy-Crawly Camping Adventure by Betty G. Birney - Value $16.99
I adore the Humphrey books and I’m delighted to see that Betty Birney has made a spin-off series (Tiny Tales) aimed at younger beginning readers. Humphrey the hamster is a loveable classroom pet who is always having exciting adventures. My students love the Humphrey series and I can never keep it on the shelf (always a good sign). My son hasn’t read any Humphrey stories yet, because they’re still too much of a challenge, but this new Humphrey’s Tiny Tales version will be the perfect way to ease him into the world of Humphrey!
Verdict: Bookü was a huge success this month! My son loved the selection and so did I. I felt that our personal book picker did a great job selecting books based on his personal interests. I can’t pick a favorite this month, they were all hits! The value totaled $43.43 which I am also happy about!
