Jefferson’s Reserve Old Rum Cask Finish- $99.99 (on sale for $89.99)
This is my first time trying Pour More’s Bourbon Explorer box, and I was really excited to see what would be in the box. I opened it up as soon as it arrived, and I was really excited to pull out this bottle!
It’s a brand new release from Jefferson’s Reserve, and it was aged in both new American oak (for 8 years) and ex-rum barrels (for an additional 15 months).
First of all, the bottle is lovely, and there’s something about the wooden stopper and wax seal that harks back to a bygone era. I love the vintage feel of it.
Flavor wise, the rum-cask aging does really interesting things to this bourbon. It has some of the traditional bourbon flavors like vanilla and dried fruit, but there’s also a nice spiciness and a burnt sugar flavor that reminds me of rum.
I don’t often drink bourbon straight as a sipper, but I think I’ll have to make an exception for this one. It’s so good! I also can’t wait to try using it in cocktails. I think this will make a killer Old Fashioned.
Verdict: I’m really impressed with this month’s PourMore! Jefferson’s Reserve Old Rum Cask Bourbon is excellent, and I love that Pour More decided to include a bottle that’s brand new to the market. Better still is that this bottle delivers on both taste and value. Hooray! It is a little disappointing that this box didn’t contain any supplemental information, but only one of the boxes I’ve received from Pour More so far has contained an info sheet. I’d love to see that included in every box, but, other than that, I’m really pleased with this month’s shipment.
