Beauteque BB Bag is a monthly Asian beauty subscription box from Beauteque Monthly that offers full-sized makeup, skincare, and body products along with a makeup bag. Each bag claims to have a value that is triple of what you pay. Beauteque Monthly also offers Beauteque Mask Maven (you can read Ragan's reviews here!)

Usually, Beauteque's themes are irrelevant to their curation so I wouldn't give it too much thought. November's theme is "Fall in love with your skin."

The monthly bag this time is a flat pink pouch with a basketweave-like design. I like the simple look!

Deoproce Strawberry Yogurt Massage Cream - Value $13.99

This is a very large tub of massage cream. The best part is the fragrance-- it smells just like strawberry yogurt! Massaging the face is meant to increase circulation of blood and oxygen as well as improve skin elasticity. The strawberry extract in the cream has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. I scooped two quarter-sized amounts and massaged it into my face for a couple minutes before rinsing. My face felt soft and smooth afterward. The lingering strawberry scent was great too.

Tsaio Traveler's Herb Diary Herbal Blend Body Care Kit - Listed Value $14

This is a TSA-friendly travel kit that includes shampoo, body wash, and facial wash. Each bottle is about the same size you would find at a hotel. The Camellia Nourishing Shampoo is a pale orange gel with a floral scent and great lather. The Scutellaria Firming Body Wash is a pale green gel with a floral-herbal scent, bubbly lather, and a clean finish when rinsed. The Chamomilla Facial Wash Foam is a dense white cream that turns into dense, thick lather and reveals a "squeaky clean" finish. While my face does feel clean, the high friction sensation is unappealing to me, plus my face feels tight and dry soon afterward that must quickly be remedied with toner. As for the zippered clear plastic pouch, I love it and will be taking it with me for holiday travel.

VOV Lip Care Balm - Listed Value $6

This is a tinted lip balm that leaves a glossy finish and a light, natural tint. There were variations to this item and I received what looks like the strawberry version. It smells like strawberry candy and feels lightweight but moisturizing. The tint is so sheer when applied I can barely detect it. This is a good daytime lip balm, but if you want a noticeable tint then you will have to look elsewhere.

Yadah Claude Monet Hand Cream - Total Value $8.80

Subscribers receive two hand creams with different Claude Monet paintings on the tube. I received two of the same painting, Quai du Louvre. The cream is not greasy at all and absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving a silky smooth finish. It has a strong floral fragrance that lingers for around 10 minutes. I love how lightweight this hand cream is! It will definitely be a mainstay in my bag.

VOV Nail Polish - Listed Value $7.50

This nail polish actually arrived separately from the main box. Beauteque had informed subscribers via email earlier last month that this would happen, so I was prepared for the extra package.

Shades vary for subscribers; the one I received is kelly green with a creme finish. I prefer reds and neutral colors, so this one is very much out of my comfort zone. However, I do like it.

Cuticle Cutter - Listed Value $7.50

I have a confession to make: I do nothing to my cuticles. I don't use cuticle oils, I don't push them back, I just let them do their thing. That said, this cuticle cutter is so useful for trimming hangnails and precise cutting around the nails. The plastic cap for the top is a nifty bonus.

Verdict: I'm really happy that this month's Beauteque BB Bag focused on skincare! The item curation was great. It's nice being able to explore lesser-known brands like VOV and Taiwan's Tsaio. The total retail value is $57.79, which is about twice the cost of the box plus shipping for me. It is not triple the value as Beauteque advertises, and I think it rarely is, so I think they shouldn't promise this to us if they can't guarantee it. That said, I think this value is pretty consistent with Korean/Asian beauty subscriptions in general.

I like the idea of doing a “face off” of the mask/skin care boxes (and I like your in depth commentary, Luna!). I started looking for these types of boxes for my teenage daughter because I’ve never been great at “beautiquing” for myself and she was having some trouble with her skin. After going through over-the-counter items and even Pro-Activ, I started searching subscription options so that we could sample items to determine what worked best. Thanks to Nancy’s fun reviews, discovering K-beauty has been a godsend! While my daughter likes Mishibox best because of its wonderful variety, many other Korean products have managed to control her acne flair-ups and minor blemishes. But of course, more input is always welcome! (Memebox has some really outstanding products as well, especially for spot treatments.)

I am happy with my box. This was my first one. I got same items. The green nail polish was odd, but I used it on my toes, it looked ok. I would definitely not use it on my hands. Yogurt strawberry cream was amazing. It is not greasy at all and leaves my skin so moisturized and soft. I really liked hand cream too. It is so smooth and not greasy. The clippers was successfully gifted 🙂

Are there now enough k/Asian beauty subscriptions out there to do a comparison showdown, like the Ipsy/Birchbox comparison?

Luna

I think this would be fun to see(!), but I think the challenge is 1) MSA subscribing to similar boxes (i.e. mask box vs general K-beauty box) at the same price range, and 2) the same MSA reviewer reviewing both of those boxes to do the comparison post. This could be done with the Miss Tutii Mask & Beauteque Mask Maven boxes that Ragan reviews. They’re similar in price ($13 vs $15 (not including shipping), respectively). Sarah recently reviewed Piibu Mask ($15/month), and Nancy reviews the Pink Seoul Mask box but that’s $30/month.

As for general K-beauty that MSA reviews, I think the best comparison would be between Jini Beauty & either Pink Seoul or Pink Seoul Plus which are all bi-monthly boxes, and are priced at $45, $40, & $50, respectively, and Nancy reviews all of those boxes. There’s also 3B & Miss Tutii Bag at both $15/month each, but they’re reviewed by Nancy & Ragan, respectively.

There are a lot of other K-beauty boxes out there that are easily comparable, but unfortunately, they’re either not reviewed by MSA or are reviewed by other reviewers.

Sorry for my weird in-depth analysis on this, but since I’m weirdly obsessed when it comes to all beauty boxes, and reading reviews of them, I easily retain this type of useless information. Also, I know it’s been suggested many times to do a Birchbox/Ipsy/Sephora comparison (which MSA thought was a great idea), but it still hasn’t been done, and I think it’s because BB & Ipsy are reviewed by Liz, while Sephora is reviewed by Haley. I’ve also mention a couple of times a few months ago how I think it’s be cool to have a comparison between Satva & Petit Vour, which MSA thought was a great idea too, but it hasn’t been done yet. I think it’s because they’re also reviewed by different reviewers (Nich & Liz, respectively). But who knows… I could be wrong as to the reason why they haven’t been done yet.

Luna, thanks for the info on K Beauty boxes reviewed here on MSA. I’ve been trying to find all the K Beauty ones.

This is a great idea! 🙂
