Byrdie recently released their first Limited Edition Beauty Box in time for the holidays! (Thanks again, Marcy, for letting us know about this box!)

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0002

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Cost: $150 $80 (Special pricing of $80 through 12/16 only)

Now, onto the items!

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0006

TATCHA Enriching Renewal Cream - FULL SIZE! Value $185

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0007

Full Sized Tatcha!! This cream is luxe, gentle, and super hydrating - just fantastic in general. I've treated myself to this cream once before, and when the jar ran out (after me scraping the sides to not miss a drop) I could definitely tell a difference in my skin. (My skin is apparently addicted to pricey and fabulous skincare cream.)

Needless to say, I'm thrilled to get this cream again at over 50% off, and I consider the rest of this box to be just a bonus. (And I'm already thinking about buying another box!)

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0008

JINSOON Nail Polish in Oratorio - FULL SIZE! Value $18

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0009

This is a beige high-shine polish with just a touch of shimmer. Here it is on with two coats:

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0010

I tend to stick to lighter-hued polishes, and this one is perfectly in line with my tastes while still being a little different than anything else in my collection!

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0013

SMITH & CULT Tainted Lip Stain in Mad Heat - FULL SIZE! Value $24

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0014

First, GORGEOUS packaging! Smith & Cult's products are always so beautiful I want to display them! This stain is a bold red, but it actually ended up being wearable for me since it is a cool red shade. (I can't wear reds with orange undertones.)

(Swatched in lower photo.)

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0011

ILIA Polka Dots & Moonbeams Illuminator - FULL SIZE! Value $34

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0012

So many great brands in this box! I really like the Ilia brand and their ingredients, and this highlighter stick is super easy to use and blend. For my coloring, this pearl highlighter is very subtle and works for everyday wear. Here it is swatched below the lip stain:

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0015

As you can see, it isn't super detectable but it gives a beautiful shimmer when it catches the light!

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0016

SMITH & CULT Lash Dance Mascara - FULL SIZE! Value $28

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0017

Wow! This is one of the best mascaras I've sampled all year! I'd say it is even on par with my all-time favorite mascara (tarte)! The volume, length and lash separation are all excellent. And again, how fab is this mascara packaging?

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0018

ORIBE Dry Texturizing Purse Spray - Travel Size Value $22

Oribe is my favorite luxe hair care line. All their scents are fab, and this texturizing spray is no exception. It adds texture and volume to your hair without making your hair sticky.

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0020

VERSO Intense Facial Mask and Deep Hydration Mask (one mask) Value $18.75

byrdie-the-review-first-edition-december-2016-0021

This gel mask is two parts (which I always appreciate - it lets me get the best fit on my face). I've tried the VERSO skincare line before and I've been very impressed with their formulas. So no surprise - this mask was super hydrating and felt lovely on my skin.

Verdict: This is one of my favorite beauty boxes of the year. There are no filler items, and every single item is a fab addition to the box. Some of these items I've sampled (and loved) before, but everything else is a wonderful new discovery! And the value! This box has a value of about $330! That's amazing for $80, especially when you consider the brands included.

In summary, I can't recommend this box enough, and I've already talked myself into buying another box!

What do you think of Byrdie The Review Limited Edition Box?

Sigh. Just got mine today and it’s missing the Tatcha cream. I emailed CS but seeing how the box is now sold out, it’s doubtful they will send me the cream. Hopefully things will work out.

I just got my box and it is wonderful. That said, I also randomly got a Colgate toothbrush thrown in the box. It made me laugh quite a bit that Amazon was trying to send me a message. 🙂

Even though the cream is an excellent deal I broke it down percentage wise and couldn’t resist a 2nd box.

Cream $44.80
Nail color $4.80
Lip $5.60
Highlighter $8
Mascara $6.40
Hair $5.60
Mask $4.80

Liz, Thank you for another value-add review!
Luna, Thank you for the heads up!
This box is exactly what Booke mentioned: quality over quantity… and it is fabulous.
The ability to purchase it on Amazon so quickly adds to the fun of this one. It reminds me of a nice Blue Mercury splurge/spree/kill: Easy In, Easy Out, Great Products. I’m off to go get another one (still on sale at $80) to give as a gift. 🙂
Thanks for all you do!

Did you happen to take advantage of Blue Mercury’s recent 20% off holiday sale? They had a really nice GWP “bag” along with a ton of GWP items from a lot of different brands. I know 20% off deals are a dime a dozen nowadays, but where else can you get 20% off luxury brands like La Mer? That’s what my mom uses, but now that she’s retired, and on a limited income, I’ve happily taken on the task of keeping her in stock with those products. 🙂 Anyway, I thought I was going to be good this year and only get the La Mer products, but of course I found little things for me that I just “had” to have. Just like subscription boxes… individually, they don’t seem to cost that much, but when you add everything up together… Ae-oh!!! Oh well… I’m still happy with everything I purchased.

Neiman’s has 20% off for Friends and Family going on right now, and they have all of the same gift sets and product lines as Blue Mercury if anyone missed the 20% off for that site. Plus I love Neiman’s customer service and everything always arrives so quickly to me from them.

Liz,
I just ordered one, I couldn’t resist! Thank you for all of your amazing information! I can’t wait to try the moisturizer, it’s actually a little less expensive than the one I’ve used for years. I hope I love it! Thanks to all of your fabulous reviews and constant and consistent enthusiasm I always have lots of fabulous packages arriving in the mail!

Thanks so much for letting me know the reviews are helpful! I hope you love this box as much as I do! (I ordered a second box last night!)

Cindy

Just ordered this. Was not able to use either of the codes on this box, though.

Reply ButtonReply

Lunalee

What codes?

KItty

Just a heads up for Amazon Prime members – I just ordered this box through Byrdie (fulfilled by Amazon) and it’s guaranteed to be delivered by December 21!

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

Just ordered this box. It is still listed at $80.00!! Can’t wait to get it!

Reply ButtonReply

Lunalee

Yes, I also just came on to say that it is still listed at $80. It looks like an amazing box! If ordered today at free shipping, it will arrive between December 23rd and 28th.

Reply ButtonReply

Liz

Soooooo bumbed!! Because of the Orin’s, can’t have this shipped to AK 🙁

Nicole

I splurged on this too and have gone a little sub crazy lately but numbers don’t lie and this is a steal! Thank you/darn you for posting this and making me have to have it! I think santa has shopped enough this holiday for herself!

JM

All I have to say is WOW! I have been debating on all the Popsugar and Allure deals but not 100% sold on them but this box, even at the reduced $80, is a fantabulous deal. The tatcha is of course the main attraction but I’ve been meaning to try Jinsoon nail polish and love Smith and Cult products. I will use everything in this box and can’t wait for everything to arrive!

Thanks Liz for all that you do.

Luna

I hope you like the Jin Soon polish. I’m actually wearing a very beautiful semi-bright red polish from Jin Soon that I received in last year’s Barney’s holiday beauty box. The color is so beautiful for this time of year, but it did wear a little lighter/brighter than how it looked in the bottle. The only thing I noticed is that it does chip faster than other polishes I have (including my cheaper drug store polishes). However, I’m still excited to have the beige polish (I think that’s a perfect September color for me), and polishes that chip fast actually don’t deter me from wearing them again. When somebody notices my chipped polish, I always say I’m going for the distressed look. Ha ha!

Reply ButtonReply

Sarah

I wear JinSoon polishes all the time- my salon uses their polishes. The trick is to use their base coat and top coat with their colors. My manicurist explained to me that she designed the line as a three step system, and all three steps “bond” together. If you use all three your mani/pedi should last at least 10 days.

Cindy

I have totally given up on polishing my fingernails due to the chipping issue. For a special event, I will have them done. While a pedicure polish will last 3 – 4 weeks, the same polish on my hands last, at most, two days.

Super-aggravating!

I, too, would love it if someone knows of a polish that lasts a week on the hands.

Robin

Liz,
What are your fave polishes that chip the least? I can barely wear any for more than a few hours before they look wrecked.
And thanks for the review! I was on the fence, but I grabbed it after reading this!

Gloria

What a fantastic discovery! I didn’t need any of these items, but couldn’t resist the Tatcha cream. I also first tried this brand from your box, Liz. I used the cream last night before bed, and my skin felt great this morning. I’m absolutely loving the mascara. I’ve been searching for months for a new mascara. This box is a win for me.

After reading this review several times I finally broke down and ordered. I think it was Luna, from one of the posts, who mentioned this box several weeks ago but it was not discounted yet but I was intrigued then. I first discovered Tatcha from Liz’s box and am excited to get this at such a savings.

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I’m actually glad that MSA decided not to post about it when I first mentioned it a few weeks ago, because even though it was still a great deal then (at $128), it’s an AWESOME deal now, and I’m so happy people were able to take advantage of it at the better price point. 🙂 Of course, I jumped on it when I first saw it and posted about it (how could I not???), but fortunately I have a ton of Amazon gift cards from over the years, so this one was free for me. I hope you enjoy your box! I already can’t wait for their 2nd edition!

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Oh Luna, I can’t believe I missed your original tip – sorry about that! (Definitely not a conscious decision not to post, but I guess it worked out with the discounted price!)

KarenG

Just ordered this. Can’t go wrong with a full size Tatcha. I’ll gift the rest but I really want to try this moisturizer. Love that almost all every he items are full size. Definitely quality over quantity 👍

AmyM

I’m really glad I decided to go for it with this one. What a treat! Everything is so, so nice. If I can find the Amazon gifts cards I know are hiding out in my house somewhere, I might grab another.

Reply ButtonReply

Lunalee

I also had a gift card so I was able to get it for half price! So excited!

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

Ha ha!! This is EXACTLY what I did too! When I found out it was only sold through Amazon, I was excited because I knew I had a ton of gift cards lying around, but where….. that took a bit of time to find them all. 🙂

Jeniferlyn

Yes!!! My best gf rarely puts herself first for things like this (unless I can visit her and we shop together!)-the moisturizer sold me! She’s scoring heavily this year!!
Thank you for keeping up with all of these!!!!
Ps. !!!!!!!

Hi Liz, I want to try this box because of the mascara because Tarte has been giving me raccoon eyes lately. Do you know how it wears? And are the ingredients natural like Tarte’s? Thanks! (Also Liz!) 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Kathy

I also love the Tarte and had been having the same issue. I discovered that I had been using the non waterproof one instead of my regular Tarte splashes waterproof one. I had received several tubes in subscription boxes and assumed it was the waterproof one because the packaging was the same. I will be double checking from now on.

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

I’ve been wearing it all day with no issues. (But I should also mention that I don’t have issues with Tarte’s mascara, so not sure how helpful that is!) I’m not sure if ingredients are as natural as tarte’s, but it is paraben and fragrance free. Hope that helps a little! 🙂

Mine came yesterday as well, and I completely love this box. I greatly prefer quality over quantity, and this definitely hits the mark there. I may swap the nail polish – I only paint my toes and I usually go pink or red – but I’m keeping everything else.

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Yay! So happy you love the box, too. It is definitely a quality box! 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Kiales

Do I need any of these things? No. (I’m set on moisturizer, mascara, nail polish, highlighters, and hair products for life haha).

Will I buy this? Probably. What a great deal for some excellent brands!

Reply ButtonReply

Parker

Yeah I couldn’t resist either even though I’m overflowing with products!

Marie Aubucho

Me too 🙂

Just got my box and all I can say is wow! What a difference quality makes. The red lip gloss lip stain is gorgeous. I even like the beige polish and that’s not a color I normally wear. Beautiful packaging on all the items. I feel spoiled for splurging on this. So much better than the sad glossybox that came for December. Yes it cost more but WOW! I feel better just looking at everything.
