PourMore sends exceptional whisky to your door every month.

I’ve been reviewing this subscription for awhile, and I initially signed up for the Scotch Explorer subscription. This month, I wanted to mix things up a little bit by trying the Bourbon Explorer!

Rogue Spirits Dead Guy Whiskey - Value $42.99
This month’s bottle for the Bourbon Explorer subscription is Rogue Spirits Dead Guy Whiskey. I’m familiar with Rogue’s beers, but I had no idea they also made spirits!
Rogue’s Dead Guy Whiskey is made from the same malts as their Dead Guy Ale, and I like that the bottle is capped and fitted with a lightning stopper. I’ve never seen a whiskey bottle with this type of seal, and I think it’s a clever way to reference the brewing side of Rogue’s operation.
This whiskey is 80 proof, and the color of light agave nectar.
When I was tasting this whiskey, I took a small sip and was immediately impressed. First of all, it has a round and full mouthfeel and a lovely finish. The flavor is sweet and thick— with hints of honey, toffee, and a little oak. Sometimes whiskey can be a little thin or one-note, and that isn’t the case at all with this one. There’s a ton of flavor, and it seems like each sip is a journey through different layers of deliciousness. I think this is one of the best whiskies I’ve discovered in awhile! (And especially at this price point!)
Verdict: I’m really pleased with this month’s PourMore! Rogue’s Dead Guy Whiskey is really delicious, and I’m now really curious to try some of Rogue’s other spirits. (I’m DEFINITELY going to keep an eye out for their Pink Spruce Gin! It sounds delicious, but it’s also actually pink. How fun!) The value of this month’s pick does come in significantly below the cost of the subscription, but last month’s selection had an MSRP of almost $100, so I’m okay with this one coming in on the low side.
