Included was a two-sided, full-color brochure containing information about the products. It was so big, I really couldn’t photograph the whole thing and have it still be readable. But it is a good, informative card – one of the best I’ve seen for a subscription box.
Two Moms in the Raw Soul Sprout Cinnamon-ilicious Almond Butter Truffles (2 oz) – Value $4
I’ve had Two Moms in the Raw products tons of times before in subscription boxes, but this was new to me. These were little truffles that were chewy without being crumbly and they were coated in a dusting of cinnamon that was really good. I hope to see more of these.
Nutrawbar in Coconut (1.4 oz) – Value $2.17
This has very few ingredients, but my husband and I both liked it (we split most of the snacks I get). It was chewy without being too sticky and it definitely had a strong coconut flavor.
Raw Crunch with Organic Cranberries + Orange (1 oz) – Value $2.50
This was clearly a seed bar with a few dried cranberries and it tasted like a seed bar. But, I like seeds and eat them regularly (good source for healthful plant fats). This was a bit messy to eat because bits kept falling off.
Rawxies Chocolate Brownie (1.5 oz) – Value $2.08
I think this was the one product in the box that was not new to me. I love chocolate, but this is not my favorite flavor of Rawxies (that would be the lemon poppyseed ones). This chocolate one is always just a little bit dry for some reason.
Burkart Organics Sun-Dried White Peaches (8 oz) – Value $7.99
This bag is huge – half a pound! These are pretty standard dried peaches (unsulfured). They do, unfortunately, look like desiccated human ears, but they taste a lot better than they look.
Go Raw Sea Salt and Vinegar Coconut Crisps (2 oz) – Value $5.49
Sea salt and vinegar coconut chips sound pretty gross to me (to me – to be upfront, I don’t generally like sea salt and vinegar as a flavor combination). But I did try these and they were oddly good. This product was never something I thought would work, but it did.
Sky Island Organics PCT Extra-Mile! (1.75 oz) – Value $5
This is a pretty standard nutty trail mix with cacao nibs. Although it contains apricot kernels (I didn’t know you could eat those), it is hard to distinguish them from almonds, which are also included. This is a nice mix of protein, fat, and fiber, plus antioxidants from superfoods like cacao and goji berries.
Elloraw Pecan Pie (2 oz) – Value $4.99
Elloraw is aRawBox staple, but this product is new to me. I couldn’t find it on the Elloraw site so I’ve priced it similarly to other items they sell. These pretty much tasted like date rolls with some pecan in them (not at all a bad thing!).
Truce Room and Pillow Spray in Lavender and Lemongrass (4 fl oz) – Value $9.59
My first experience with Truce was a yoga mat spray so I was happy to see this room/pillow spray from them. You will usually get a household or beauty product or two in RawBox – I’ve received spray cleaners, mouthwash/toothpaste, lip balms, and a whole host of other items. Anyway, this has a nice soothing scent and I’m hoping it will help me fall asleep. (One night is too soon to make a final judgment.)
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $43.81 for the December 2016 RawBox. That is on the low side for this subscription, though it is above the cost of the subscription. Since food subscriptions usually have low values, and this is above the cost of the box, I am happy. Although some of the items were unusual, I actually enjoyed everything and thought it was all high quality. Plus I made a lot of new discoveries. I am consistently pleased with this box (plus it seems to work well for vegans, vegetarians, and those who need to eat gluten-free).
What do you think of the December 2016 RawBox?
