Each month, you'll be receiving timely comics from numerous different publishers. They can range from super-popular titles, Like Batman or Avengers, to little-known titles. This month had a focus on lesser known titles.

It comes with an information sheet that includes details about the title along with staff comments.

Rocket Raccoon: Grounded #1 - Value $3.99

My favorite issue of the month was from Marvel and featured your favorite space raccoon!

Blind-Box-Comics-January-2017-0021

Rocket is stuck on Earth and has to deal with people who simply hate and don't understand him. Naturally full of quips and snappy responses, Rocket's time on Earth looks like it'll be a blast.

The Family Trade Sneak Preview - Value ?

This issue is actually a 7-page sneak preview of this upcoming story.

Blind-Box-Comics-January-2017-0024

This ashcan copy of the story is rare. The Red cover is limited to 150 copies, while the Blue cover is limited to only 50. It was a little disappointing to not get an entire story - but I like how limited it is, and that's part of the reason I like this subscription.

Artful #1 - Value $3.99

This was the issue I didn't particularly enjoy - but again, I'm not a big vampire fan.

Blind-Box-Comics-January-2017-0018

From Amazon:

Award winning author and comics legend, Peter David, brings the adaptation of his novel, Artful, to Action Lab! Artful is the dark, funny, and action-packed story of one of the most fascinating characters in literary history, the Artful Dodger from the classic Oliver Twist, this time with a twist: Vampires.

Rockstars #1 - Value $3.99

Ok - this one was an interesting surprise. Blindbox describes it as 'Almost Famous" meets the Manson Family.

Blind-Box-Comics-January-2017-0015

Essentially, it's a story about investigating unsolved Rock and Roll legends. It goes all over the place, in a fun way.

From Amazon:

SERIES PREMIERE! Fan-favorite JOE HARRIS (SNOWFALL, The X-Files) and mega-talented newcomer MEGAN HUTCHISON deliver a new ongoing series exploring rock ‘n’ roll’s untold mysteries and secrets! “NATIVITY IN BLACKLIGHT,” Part One When a pattern of unsolved “groupie” murders from the 1970s resumes in present-day Los Angeles, nobody makes the connection except Jackie Mayer, a rock nerd with a strange connection to music’s urban legends and lost history. Together with muckraking music writer Dorothy Buell, they soon uncover a vast conspiracy involving a legendary band, demonic possession, and sacrifices to the dark gods of rock.

TMNT #65 - Value $22.99

This month included 2 exclusive BlindVariants! The first is issue 65 of the ongoing IDW Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles run.

Blind-Box-Comics-January-2017-0008

This is an issue that I bought a few weeks ago. It's one of the more fun issues of TMNT since it's the Christmas party issue - and everyone comes to visit!

Blind-Box-Comics-January-2017-0010

Atoll #1 - value $3.99

Get ready for the aqua Thunderdome. Except you're battling a massive Great White named "Majesty".

Blind-Box-Comics-January-2017-0012

This is definitely for mature audiences only! But, the story is absolutely wild - as if the above description wasn't enough to lure you in!

From Amazon:

When the burlap sack is ripped from her head, decorated Olympic athlete Story Helms finds herself seated on a steel platform overlooking an arena somewhere far off the northwestern coast of Australia. Welcome to The Atoll, where abductees are pitted in combat against the world's deadliest apex predator, Majesty, a twenty-one foot Great White shark. Story is next in the ring; how long will she last? Place your bets!

Verdict: I received 4 issues that I really enjoyed this month - on top of the exclusive variants! They do a great job of providing value through exclusive variants and curation - which can be pretty rare with a subscription box delivering only comic books.

This months was just ok to me. The only issue I really cared for was getting another TMNT variant, though I already own one. Rockstars was a solid addition but the rest had below average storylines.

I did see that some people got a golden ticket instead of Atoll. I’m curious what they were redeemed for.
