GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription box. They have the best packaging in the business, their products are usually deluxe size or full size, and the value is usually good too.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Now, onto the items!

Secret Flush Soothing Cream Blusher + Lip Stain Duo - FULL SIZE! Value $20

glossy-box-january-2017-0016

(I believe all subscribers will receive this item.)

glossy-box-january-2017-0018

It's a gorgeous shimmery pink, with plenty of pigment, and it even has a nice fruity scent, too!

Here it is swatched:

It's easy to blend, and I really love it as a cream stick blush. (You can use it as a lip color, too.)

glossy-box-january-2017-0022

oOlution Eye Love - FULL SIZE! Value $37

(That value is from GlossyBox - I can't find this product for sale in the US.)

glossy-box-january-2017-0023

(This is another item all subscribers should receive in their January box.) This eye cream is designed to help with dark circles and puffiness. I have yet to find an eye cream to reduce the appearance of my dark circles, but this one was gentle on my skin and very hydrating.

glossy-box-january-2017-0011

Daily Concepts Exfoliating Body Scrubber with Smart Technology - Value $5

glossy-box-january-2017-0013

This body scrubber has two sides - so you pick how much exfoliation power you want!

glossy-box-january-2017-0014

Theorie de Volcans Mask Scrub - FULL SIZE! Value $32

This is a creamy, exfoliant cleanser. The exfoliating particles are fine, so it's gentle on your skin, and should be OK for everyday use. It left my skin feeling super smooth - I'm a fan! (I just wish the full-size version was larger - 1 oz of this doesn't seem like it will last more than a week! I would not be happy if I had paid $32 for this!)

glossy-box-january-2017-0020

The Seaweed Bath Co Restore and Protect Day Cream - 10 ml total Value $5.35

This cream is hydrating, absorbs quickly, and has no noticeable scent - my skincare wishlist trifecta! I appreciate that they doubled up the samples too, I'll definitely use every last drop!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $99. I think the value is great for a $21 box, and this is one of my favorite Glossyboxes in a while - I'll use everything!

What do you think of the January 2017 GlossyBox? Did you get the perfume in your box?

I noticed on the outside of my glossybox a smal sticker that said Version 2. So maybe they’ll start labelling them from now on?

Also, I got the same box as you Liz.
LUUUUUVVVV your site 😊

Your REFRESH coupon wouldn’t work when I tried to checkout. But when I took the coupon off it let me subscribe to Glossybox. OH well I’ll give it a try for a few months

This is my first month of a GlossyBox sub. I decided to try it when they offered the $35 gift card to LIvely (bought the cutest bra). My box was the same with the exception of the seaweed lotions. Instead I received a deluxe sample of Too Faced mascara melt off cleansing oil and it’s pretty awesome. I love the cream blush. Not sure if they’re all the same color but mine is 04 Nectar an it is definitely me. I was just going to get one month to get the free bra but now I can’t wait to see what I get in February. I said no additional subs in 2017 but this is the second one I’ve added and we are still in January. I am weak.

I got the same box. Every item is great, but I wish to see no more tiny cream/cleanser/etc. samples. It makes the box look so sad… Anything under 15 ml is useless.

This box sounds like it was a hit with only one variation so far. I’m sure many are still waiting for their boxes but it seems to be the first time in months that an equal box has been sent. I guess losing lots of subscribers will do that. Though we still have half a month left to see what happens. I cancelled last month and while I have fomo for a good box I really don’t want any of this stuff that they are offering because I am on overload anyway. I miss not getting the box not the products. Lol.

I was underwhelmed with this box for some reason. Thankfully it was my glossydots box so I got it for free.

I received my Glossydots box today (I cancelled my sub last month, and redeemed my points for a free January box), and instead of the two Seaweed day creams, I received a deluxe sample of an AG Hair Cleansing Cream. I’m really happy to have received that, as I love trying new co-washes. I think I may have received a different lip/blush cream color, as mine looked more pale & pinky/orange than the one pictured.

I got the same box and love it! It was a great mix of products.

I think this is the best box I’ve received from GB. I will use every item. The eye cream is great. I just started experimenting with cream blushes and this one is a good color and blends well. I’m so happy NOT to receive black eyeliner or red lipstick. Regarding other reviews, I completely agree that GB is probably not the box for teens. I gifted ipsy to my 14 yr old nieces. I’m so glad GB offers women like me who need “anti-aging” products a great box. I prefer skincare over makeup.

I meant Glossybox rocked it 🙂

Glossybo rocked it this month! I love the products especially the blush which smells delicious.

I got the same stuff in my box. I think this is the first time I have actually used every single thing in the box so I am pleased. I really like the eye cream. It definitely helps with puffiness. I tried to find it online to buy more and was bummed that I couldn’t seem to find it.

I received the same box as Liz. I’m actually pleased with this box. It had brands I’ve never tried. Sizes are a lot more generous than ipsy, play and birchbox.

Dea

Well, because it costs twice as much.

I think anyone looking to gift a sub to a tween/teen first look at past boxes and reviews. That’s the best way to determine whether a box would be a good fit or not. Anyone not familiar with a box really should do a little research before committing.

I really liked this box, especially the blusher/lip stain. I got the same variation (unlike last month’s miserable alternates). The lip stain looked great on me! The body scrubber and exfoliant with volcanic rock are fabulous, and we’ll see if the eye stuff works. This box is so much better than last month’s for me!

For a good eye cream try the Fresh black tea eye cream, it took my dark circles away but they come back if you stop using it :'(

Reply ButtonReply

here_we_are987

Thanks, Kristina! Would that be the Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Eye Concentrate? I haven’t found anything that helps my dark circles either. What’s worse is I’m not good at using concealer. So, makeup, no makeup, concealer, no concealer, I have dark circles.

Thank you for the tip! I will definitely try it! 🙂

I gave my 14 year old daughter a one year subscription to this box and this first box sucked! Day cream and eye cream? I hope these boxes get better.

Like many of the others, I would recommend Ipsy as being marketed for a younger demographic. Also Boxycharm, and even Play by Sephora might be more appropriate. GB almost always has anti-aging products. Beautycon, although only seasonal, would also be pretty great, as it’s curated by YouTube/Social Media beauty stars, who tend to skew young. I agree that Medusa’s is a fun line, but that it might be more color than you want your kid wearing. Liplove and Lip Monthly, while being mostly lip products, also come in fun packaging that might interest a teenager.

Lola EB

When I was looking into subs for my nieces I decided Ipsy is the best for teens and with their new profile system I think even better than before.

If you have a teen who likes wild colors then I would recommend Medusas Makeup. Their lip and cheek colors are starting to have more pigments than when they first started though their glosses are still sheer. Since lots of their eye colors are loose, a set of brushes and a primer would be recommended as well. Might be a bit advanced for beginners.

I personally enjoy Glossybox as it is. Aside from the more customized Ipsy, Beautycon BFF might also be worth checking out.

Dea

Glossybox is for adults.

Reply ButtonReply

katie

Have to agree, this is a sub for adults.

EC

Teens aren’t the target demographic for Glossybox so it’s not a matter of it “improving;” it’s an issue of inaccurate expectations. It won’t turn into a glitter eyeshadow and green lipgloss sub since that’s not who it’s marketed toward.

Jaclyn

Your daughter would probably like The Better Beauty Box, which is aimed at tweens/teens.

Jennifer

I used to sub to this box. It is a hit and miss some months. Sometimes heavy on skincare. Depending on her age she May like a couple of others Liz reviews like ipsy or birchbox or allure. But the value is always great on this box and you can always swap the items you don’t like for items you would like to try on the swap site.
