Wizarding-world-january-2017-0005

While the intro box had some Fantastic Beasts items, this one is ALL about Harry Potter. You get to pick your house when you sign up, but that information wasn't used this month - but, March's delivery will be the first month to send items based on your house!

You'll find a scroll in the box to unroll and reveal the items (and possible variants) in your box!

Wizarding-world-january-2017-0017

Like all Loot Crate subscription boxes, it will include a monthly pin. This month's pin is much larger than normal - it's a Prophecy Pin!

Professor Snape "Always" Shirt - Value $15?

This month's exclusive shirt features everyone's favorite - Snape. It's a pretty straightforward design - I like the design of the smoke in the background of the portrait.

Wizarding-world-january-2017-0009

Funko POP - Luna Lovegood - Value $9 on Amazon

You'll be getting a POP vinyl figure this month as well. You could receive Hermoine (Yule Ball Variant), Ron (Yule Ball Variant), Luna Lovegood, of Sirius Black.

Wizarding-world-january-2017-0011

I still don't have many Harry Potter POPs - so this one is new to my collection!

Time-Turner Necklace - Value $10-15?

This month includes Hermione's favorite piece of jewelry - a Time-Turner Necklace.

Wizarding-world-january-2017-0014

Wizarding-world-january-2017-0015

Hermione used this to get to all of her many classes in The Prisoner of Azkaban - and also used it, with Harry, to save Sirius and Buckbeak.

The necklace itself is just a felt strap with a latch. Nothing too special about that, but the pendant could be pulled off and added to your keys or another necklace.

Deathly Hallows Pocket Watch - Value - $10-15?

You'll get an exclusive pocket watch featuring the Deathly Hallows.

Wizarding-world-january-2017-0021

Wizarding-world-january-2017-0022

While it's not the highest quality watch - it's definitely serviceable and unique, showcasing the Deathly Hallows on the outside and inside body of the watch.

Platform 9 3/4 Socks - Value $10?

These are my absolute favorite type of sock that Loot Crate produces - the socks are made from 82% Polyester/16% Cotton/2% Spandex and go through a different printing process that allows them to get much more detail on the sock.

Wizarding-world-january-2017-0024

Wizarding-world-january-2017-0025

They're modeled after the gateway to Hogwarts Express - platform 9 3/4! These socks will fit snuggly on your foot and will stay up on your leg with much more ease.

Verdict: I'm a big fan of this month's POP and socks - but the wearable items weren't really my style. The value is still really good for a $35 box, though - and I think bi-monthly is the right cadence for each theme. I was curious how they'd handle the first theme that didn't revolve around an upcoming movie - and it does make me excited to see future themes - and I can't wait for the house-specific box in March!

I can relate to many of the comments. T-shirt was wrong size and the socks are men’s size. I have no use for the jewelry. I have ordered some cool officially licensed postcards from Zazzle with Fantastic Beast references… I wish this box had those types of items… stationery, notepads, pens, postits. Something I can use. Always love candy too. I’m with the others. One more box to give them a second chance otherwise I am cancelling.

I canceled my subscription to this (and subsequently Loot Pet) over the disappointment. Considering Geek Fuels HP box. Good luck JK looters.

Everyone else that is not satisfied, please fill out your satisfaction survey that loot crate emails us.

I wish I could return the whole thing. This box was a total let down. Even purchased with the Black Friday deal, I still feel like I got ripped off and regret subscribing. I also thought we’d get a high quality time turner! Wasn’t that what was shown as a spoiler?

Other problems with this order too: The socks I got were men’s size 10-13, so they are unwearable. And the shirt was also the wrong size. What do they bother having us fill out a size profile if they are going to disregard it?

I contacted Loot… we’ll see how long it takes them to respond.

How do I set the time on the watch?

Michelle/Auror713

Pull up on the knob at the top and then you are able to turn the knob clockwise to set the time.

I loved the first box so much. But I was really disappointed with this one. The tshirt came in the wrong size, I thought we’d get a high quality time turner- I was SO excited about that. But then this one- no details, basic on a faux leather cord. The other trinkets don’t work for me. My funko was Ron. I wish they’d just have a store, filled with high quality items, where we could choose what we want in the box (with add-ons).

So for people who want March to be their first box, any recommendations on when to subscribe? (I have zero Hufflepuff merchandise and love the idea of a house-specific box!)

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle/Auror713

You can subscribe whenever, but consider ETSY to attain Hufflepuff themed items. 😉

Michelle

I didn’t subscribe to this but as a Harry Potter fan (I’m 56) I think the items are cool.

I don’t really get these boxes. Everything in there looks super cheap quality. And people pay $34.99?

Not what I expected for a box I assumed was created to appease die-hard Harry Potter fans- especially with JK’s name on it. There are currently other Harry Potter boxes that include candy potions, actual Fantastic Beasts, Harry Potter inside -jokes, fan art & even t-shirts that come in other colors than black… FYI- most Harry Potter fans already own at least one wand, house scarf, Deathly Hallows necklace/symbol and Time Turner. Was kind of hoping that they would try harder. Not a fan of Funko Pops- especially non-exclusive ones… or pins. (Who wears/has a use for these pins?!?! I realize they are in Loot Crates, but this is JK’s box- why pins? Why not wands? Maybe bookmarks or pens/quills?) I’m glad the boxes make kids happy, but they need to remember that their original fan base started in the late 90’s- Those people are now 20’s/30’s+ in age, hoping for a glimpse of magic as we go through our muggle work week- & are willing to spend money to do so. Seeing JK’s name on the box puts more pressure on this product. We appreciate her creative abilities. She has trained us to look for magic in everyday life and to not accept mediocre/ordinary. These boxes lack possible potential. The Loot Crate Harry Potter team needs to take a note from Star Wars fan boxes and step up their game.

My daughter is an extreme fan and was even picked for her own wand at Universal. She does not own a hat or scarf yet. She did not have a time turner necklace or any deathly hallow products. My daughter is not a kid, she is a teen. My other children are 29, 28, 27 and 26. They have loved the two boxes she has received so far. My daughter and I are hoping for Ravenclaw hat, tee, scarf, mug, etc. in future boxes. I just turned 49 this month and I am a Potterhead. My daughter saw her nephrologist yesterday and her doctor loved her ensemble. She happens to be a potterhead also. Harry Potter is for everyone.

And then too, we already own pens, quills and book marks, so who wants them according to your logic? My husband and I read the books to our oldest children as they came out. Heck, I preordered the books and read them nonstop when they arrived. We took the kids to see the movies and enjoyed them just as much if not more. People in their 20/30 age range do not have a monopoly on Potter fandom. Us older people could say the same about Star Wars that came out in the seventies. That said, you do make several good points.

Elle

So agree with you. I am not happy with the box at all. They really need to improve or else it is useless for me. I will give them another try but if it is subpar again I will stop. I wish they had cool usefull items like the pusheen box. It is more expensive and comes less often but the items are great quality and useful fun stuff. How nice would be to have a Hogwarts House box that sent nice stuff we would be excited about.

My daughter loved this box as much as the first one! She loved the Snape/Always tee and the time turner necklace. Just so happens she received the LootWear for Her Fantastic Beasts scarf today too. So she wore the tee, the necklace, my HP lightning scar silver earrings from Geek Chic Monthly’s November box. The scarf happens to be black/gold on one side, black/silver on the other. Around her neck you could see the variations of both and it pulled together beautifully the grayish/silver of The Snape tee and earrings and also the gold of the time turner necklace. She also put on the Prophecy pin on her jean jacket and of course wore the socks. She was totally adorbs! Going to put her pick up on instagram! She is going to wear the pocket watch necklace with a different outfit. 🙂 she received Luna Lovegood which thrilled her as a fellow Ravenclaw. This is her fave box . FYI she is thirteen.

Agreed! I’m in my late 20s and am not sure what im going to do with this stuff. More home items like pillow cases, salt/pepper shakers or other unique items and wearables like pj pants or maybe a cool hat is what should come in a $35 subscription not trinkets and a giant pin that barely relates.

Sheri H

Pjs would be awesome!!!

That should be picture.

A lot of this stuff looks like items you can get from Hottopic.

As of right now, I’m content with not having signed up for this – but maybe next month I’ll be wow’d.

Reply ButtonReply

Elle

True. The items are from BioWorld who sells at hot topic. The products are cheap looking and not very impressing. This was my first box and I am not sure I want to continue, but since next box is house specific I will sub one more month to see if the items quality improve. Those pops are not exclusive so I dont see a value there, the acessories I will save for my kids once they are old enough to read and enjoy HP. Only think I liked was the shirt and the socks. Definitely don’t see much value in this sub.

Christina

Same. I hope the house-theme box next month is great, but based on what I’ve seen in first boxes, I don’t have my hopes up.

This was my son’s first box (and really it’s like we share the box LOL). He LOVED the pocket watch, wasn’t too thrilled with the time turner but perked up at your suggestion of using it on his keyring. He loves the shirt and I love the Funko POP (we also got Sirius) as I am collecting the Harry Potter ones. I now have two in my collection. He wasn’t too keen on the sock design but I may steal those too for wearing with boots. 🙂

Looking forward to the next box!

Juliya

I liked the previous box slightly better. But in this box the t-shirt and socks are pretty awesome. I am not a fan of the POP figures (got Sirius Black), I understand that a lot of people collect them, but I wish they didn’t include them in every single box. Can’t wait for the March box 🙂
