Usually, Beauteque's themes are irrelevant to their curation so I wouldn't give it too much thought. January's theme is "Beauty Resolutions."
The monthly bag is totally my style. I love the black and white chevron design. It's simple but bold and modern! It measures 6 by 8 inches and lays flat, and there is a silky black interior lining.
Scinic It's Tint Lip Tint, 0.035 oz - Value $7.96
This is a moisturizing lip tint that contains avocado seed oil, jojoba seed oil, and shea butter. Various shades were sent out and I received the shade RD02, a beautiful cool-toned bright red. I wouldn't really consider it a tint but rather a full-coverage lip crayon. It's highly pigmented and provides smooth, even color. It also leaves a slight stain after I remove it with makeup remover. I did not notice any bleeding or feathering while I wore it, and it lasted for half a day before I needed to touch up after a meal.
Here is the swatch on my arm.
Deoproce Cleanbello Collagen Essential Moisture Cream, 1.7 oz - Value $16.99
This is a hydrating face cream that aims to prevent moisture loss and protect skin from external pollution. The star ingredient is marine collagen, which helps plump up fine lines and wrinkles. This is a thick cream with a powdery sweet fragrance. Just a small amount can cover the whole face. I use it as the very last step of my skincare routine and it provides serious hydration overnight. It can feel "heavy" on the skin, especially if I use it during the day. I think this would be great for normal or dry skin types, but for my oily skin type, it feels too rich.
Eyebrow Trimming Scissors - Listed Value $5
This is a pair of lightweight eyebrow trimming scissors. There is a mini fine-toothed comb attached to the tip to comb through eyebrows before the scissors trim them off. I've never used eyebrow trimmers before and at first this one looked terribly intimidating. Then, after fiddling around with the tool for a while, I found that the scissors aren't precise enough to get the trim that I want. Granted, I am not an eyebrow guru so my skills are lacking as well. I learned from this experience that it's better to leave my brows to a professional!
Mohani Perfect Damage Care Baobab Perfume Shampoo, 4 oz - Value $11.99
Mohani is a new brand for me! This shampoo contains baobab extract, which claims to promote regeneration of hair cells and strong, healthy hair. I thought hair was made of dead cells, so the regeneration claim seems a little skeptical. The shampoo produces nice lather and I have nothing bad to say about its cleaning abilities. However, the fragrance is a very strong floral and permeates everything. I wish the scent wasn't so strong and cloying because aside from that it is a perfectly fine shampoo.
Mohani Perfect Damage Care Baobab Perfume Body Wash 4 oz - Value $11.99
When they say "Perfume Body Wash" they aren't kidding! This body wash contains baobab extract to smooth and nourish the skin. The fragrance smells very strong. In fact, it's so strong it nearly gave me a headache in the shower. It reminds me of the light, sparkling florals of Marc Jacobs perfumes but amplified to a 10. Fragrance aside, the gel lathers nicely and leaves skin feeling very clean. However, just like the shampoo, the body wash smells too strong for my liking, so I will not reach for it often.
LadyKin Elmaju Natural Broccoli Super Brightening Cream 2.1 oz - Value $14.99
Subscribers receive either the TonyMoly Pocket Bunny Mist, Anskin Premium Modeling Mask, or this cream from LadyKin. This is a hydrating cream that contains broccoli and blueberry extracts to fade skin spots and brighten complexion. At first, the consistency is similar to sunscreen-- it is a white cream with a watery base. When rubbed in, the cream transforms into watery liquid and absorbs quickly into the skin. It leaves behind a very subtle white cast which masks some redness and hyperpigmentation on my face. I think I will play around with this product some more to see if there are long-term improvements to my skin.
Verdict: This month is a mixed bag. The total value is about $69, which is more than twice the cost of the box and shipping. While the value is definitely there, the shampoo, body wash, and eyebrow scissors are all misses for me. That said, I am very happy about the Scinic lip tint and glad to be introduced to Mohani. Hopefully next month's curation will be more of my style!
