subscription boxes comparison: boxycharm, glossybox, and beautyfix

This new Boxycharm vs GlossyBox vs BeautyFix series compares my subscription every month to give you a good idea what you can expect from these popular beauty subscription boxes. (Boxycharm and GlossyBox are both $21 a month, and BeautyFix is $24.95 a month, so they seemed close enough in cost to compare!)

Check out my Birchbox vs Ipsy vs Sephora Play post series too!

Important to know: With Glossybox and BeautyFix, there are certain items that all subscribers will receive, but the remainder of items in the box will vary. With BeautyFix, all items are the same for all subscribers. (With the exception of perhaps different colors of a beauty item.)

Beauty Fix January 2017 (Check out the full BeautyFix review)

Number of items: 7

Full-size items: 3

Deluxe size items: 1

Brands featured: Briogeo, Avene, MDSolarSciences, Nick Chavez, Manna Kada, Dermalogica, BioRewind

Categories featured: Makeup (1) Haircare (2) Skincare (4)

Cost: $24.95

Total Value: $114.60

Favorite item in the box: Nick Chavez SoftFlocker Styling Cream

This hair cream is a solid cream in the jar, and you warm it up with your fingers then apply it throughout your hair. It gave my hair volume and texture – and I give it bonus points for smelling lovely, too!

Verdict: I didn't have a stand-out favorite box this month. Each box had some items I loved, and some I wasn't too crazy about. That being said, here are my general suggestions for which box to pick:

Boxycharm: If you are looking for full-size makeup, this is the box to go for. They consistently send out makeup in addition to haircare and skincare products. (You will quickly build up an impressive eyeshadow collection with this subscription box!)

GlossyBox: This is the best box if you're looking for trying out brands that you typically don't see in the US. You'll get a mix of US and EU brands. The one downside is that values of these boxes can vary depending on which variation you get, so make sure you're happy with the main spoiler items that everyone gets if you're thinking about signing up.

BeautyFix: This is my go-to box for sampling a lot of high-end skincare products. They usually round out the boxes with a few makeup and haircare products, too. You'll get a mix of full-size and sample-size products.

What was your favorite box for January? And what was your favorite product?

I also love these comparison posts. I was complaining to a friend this week that none of the boxes seemed to send out much in the way of eyeshadows, and I wished they would. I’m thrilled to know that BoxyCharm is eyeshadow heavy! I got my first box today and I love it. Full size products look so big!

Boxycharm is my favorite. I love the palettes they send and that contour highlighting palette is gorgeous. One of my favorite items I’ve received from them.

I love these comparison emails. There are always so many new boxes I can’t keep them straight anymore and so it is nice to have a comparison to help sort out the differences.

I subscribe to BoxyCharm and Glossybox and love both. My favorite this month was the Vintage Illuminating Highlighter. I love the Vintage line and this was a big hit for me

Great comparison! I personally like more make up, but in this scenario, BF stomped the other two IMO.

I really like this series (and the Play/BB/Ipsy series too). Thanks Liz! 🙂

I had GlossyBox for a while but never loved it. BoxyCharm has always looked like a really great value to me but I don’t need a ton of eyeshadow palettes and I feel like it’s heavy on those. BeautyFix looks awesome, may think about subbing there!

Thank you so much for doing this ! I honestly confuse those three all the time . I realized after trying out a few sub boxes , I much prefer skincare over makeup . Thank you for the clarification!

I definitely lean more towards makeup. Boxy will always be my number one choice.

Beauty fix by far!

BeautyFix is my favorite!

I used to get all three boxes but since I like skincare more than makeup, I decided to keep only Beautyfix. Super happy with that decision because I still have tons on eyeshadows j haven’t used and Glossybox was frustrating with their variations and lack of customer response

Beautyfix for me. They are skincare heavy, which is much better for me than make-up.

Love this comparison based on price of the box. I didn’t realize that all of the boxes have such a high value (other than boxycharm). I’ve heard some ppl complain about the expiration dates on the products from beauty fix which is why I’ve held back on subscribing. I’ll watch glossybox for a few months to see if there’s any consistency. Getting my first boxycharm on wed and can’t wait!

When did you sign up for Boxy? Curious about how long I will be waitlisted. I get Beauty fix, and did receive an out of code item, e-mailed customer service and got an awesome kit that was worth way more than the product alone. So don’t be afraid. I think it’s well worth it. 😄

One of the first few days of feb I signed up for a 3 month sub and just got my first body yesterday.

Tanya

While I love Boxycharm, I stopped my subscription when they were sending yet another eyeshadow pallet that was very similar to the month before. Glossybox is my current favorite. While I have some months with only 1 or 2 faves, they are always worth the cost of the box, and I frequently end up loving 4 out of 5, and find brands I want to buy again. So, it is the one I continue to get, despite some poor performance months.

Boxycharm looks the best as far as the Jan. review. Glossybox, I used to have and loved it and then things started to not be as great, but I’m willing to resub to this one given a good spoiler. Beautyfix, I love the items, however, most of the items here I’ve received in other sub boxes and have tried. I wish they would up their game because most of us in the sub world probably have those products already.

My favorite definitely has to be boxycharm. I love the full size products, and I always use everything they send me. I’ve been curious about Beauty Fix for a while though. Might have to subscribe soon. Off topic- have there been any March Boxycharm spoilers that I might have missed? I haven’t seen any.

Yes, an eyeshadow pallet- u can check msa or the boxycharm Facebook for pics.

I’ll go check right now. Thanks!

Great idea to compare these three! I’m partial to Beauty Fix, but am on the waitlist for Boxycharm now!

Can you do a glossy box vs allure one? I’m trying to decide which one to cancel. I don’t wear a lot of makeup so I’m trying to figure out which one has more skin care. Thanks!

Courtney

Hands down BoxyCharm is always the best, in my opinion.

Vaness

Not to mention that beautyfix is the subscription box of the three that will NOT have variations. All subscribers will receive the same box! If you are looking for something FAIR for everyone I would consider BF

Love Boxycharm- always full size, perfectly curated and 4 to 5 times the value you pay for. I have been on the lookout for a skincare sub and now that I see beautyfix has a focus on skincare – I will be waiting for a deal. Thank you so much LIZ! Appreciate all you do for us 😘
