Horror-Block-January-2017-0003

You'll get hints to which franchises and items will be in your box throughout the month - but overall, there isn't a theme.

Horror-Block-January-2017-0007

Nerd Block now has booklets as well. Inside you'll find stories, interviews, and information about the items in your box.

The booklets seem to be the same across all of your blocks in terms of stories and interviews, though.

You'll also still be getting a $10 credit to their eStore. You'll be able to get a POP for just the cost of shipping in most cases! This one is free to the first reader to redeem it.

The Mummy Shirt - Value $15?

This month's exclusive shirt features a Mumy skull from the upcoming Mummy reboot. It's a callout to this part of the trailer:

Screen Shot 2017-02-10 at 4.22.10 PM

I must've seen the original Mumy movie 10-20 times. It's somewhat of a cult classic, and is a true classic to my mom - so I'm skeptical of the remake.

Check out the full trailer as well:

Amity Islan Swim Club Pin - Value $5-10?

I am geeking out over this pin. This is the perfect type of subtle nod to a franchise that I like in shirts - so it also works well in this pin.

Horror-Block-January-2017-0025

The Silence of the Lambs Beanie - Value $10-15?

The next item is a pretty basic beanie featuring the Death's Head Hawkmoth seen in the movie.

Horror-Block-January-2017-0026

Overall, it's basic - but fans of the franchise can keep warm in this current blizzard while making "It puts the lotion in the basket" references.

Resident Evil Replica Badge - Value $10?

It comes with a 3 1/4 inch replica S.T.A.R.S. Police badge.

Horror-Block-January-2017-0017

It's got some nice detail and will be good for cosplay or a costume.

Horror-Block-January-2017-0018

it also uses magnets to attach instead of a pin - keeping your clothes undamaged. It's a strong magnet, too - it easy attached through a thick hoodie.

Horror-Block-January-2017-0022

Poison Glass Mason Jar - Value $10?

They include this exclusive ominous mason jar drinking glass.

Horror-Block-January-2017-0024

This is your typical mason jar - it's got great weight because of the thick glass and the decal is printed on - so I think it could be good to go through the dishwasher.

Horror-Block-January-2017-0019

Horror-Block-January-2017-0020

Jason Mask Air Freshener - Value $1-2?

You'll get an air freshener that shows of Camp Crystal Lake.

Horror-Block-January-2017-0021

The scent is really potent and has a Pledge smell.

Horror-Block-January-2017-0013

My Bloody Valentine Card  - Value $3-5?

Just in time for Valentine's Day - you'll get a card to gift to that special someone.

Horror-Block-January-2017-0027

Rue Morgue Phantasm Book - Value $14.95

Every once in a while, you'll get a special edition Rue Morgue book - this one has a look at the Phantasm franchise!

Verdict: This month was pretty jam-packed with items, and those items were all over the place with the horror genre. I'm really loving the pin - and overall there is value - but I'm wondering if this one featured too many different franchises for everyone to love? What do you think?

Honestly it feels like the horror blocks are going down hill :/ the last ones I got made me feel like I was paying for junk, I don’t know if it’s the fact that they mix so many franchises or maybe the fact that they toss random products that aren’t that cool…

I liked the shirt but didn’t understand where the reference came from. Thanks – wish it wasn’t kiddy looking though. I love the STARS badge (give me anything Resident Evil). I gave the jar away (looks super cheap, if it had a themed logo, would’ve been cooler and agree less dollar tree). I like air freshener. I can pass on the Phantasm book, give me a fangoria instead. I like the post card. I have subscribed to Horror Block for a while now and sometimes their boxes are great but many times they are just OK…this one had some cool stuff but overall was a little better than OK for overall.

That mug is from Dollar Tree, I’m pretty sure. This box is disappointing.

The most worthwhile thing for me in this box was the STARZ pin. The hat looks poorly made and should be ascribed no monetary value. I would be embarrassed to wear it or give it away. The post card is a post card. These were from the spoiled franchises this month.

Of the franchises not spoiled: the air freshener is cute, and I did get a laugh out of it. The mason jar is a cheap Halloween decoration that is of the same general quality of the hat, but with even less of a purpose. The shirt looks decent, but the Mummy remake is not something I would have gotten a box for.

This was my first and last Horror Block box. Of the franchises spoiled, we received a cool relica, a post card, and a hat that is effectively garbage (it looks that awful). Of the franchises not spoiled, we got a decent shirt for a movie that may or may not have a sizable audience (did we really need a remake/reboot when we still enjoy Brandan Fraser?), an air freshener, and a dollar store leftover.

Overall, this box is a categorical disappointment.

Dan

I hated this block. The pin was the only thing I really liked.

The Mummy movie looks like it could have been awesome had been casted better. As it is, it looks lame, maybe something would look at on HBO.
