Loot Crate vs Nerd Block + 5 More Geek Boxes – February 2017

geek-box-showdown

It's been a long while since I've posted a Geek Box Showdown - and I wanted to get back into the swing of things by highlighting the boxes I've received, so far, in February 2017.

Just a note before starting - Since geek boxes are including more and more exclusive items, it's becoming harder to get a real value, so I figured I'd give a fair estimate of those items. Also, if the review has a value range - I took the high-end of the range.

Nerd-Block-February-2017-0003

Nerd Block Classic - Read the Full Review

The Cost: $19.99 plus shipping (Shipping is $8.75 to Canada, $9.95 to US, $12.50 Worldwide)

COUPON – Use coupon code NERDADDICTION to save 17% off your first month!

Number of items: 6

Value of items: $60+ (Total Rickall value is up for debate!)

Exclusive Items: All Exclusive (exclusive cards in Total Rickall)

About the February Nerd Block: This month's theme was Time Travel. The biggest ticket item was the Rick and Morty Total Rickall card game - it's sold out in a lot of places and being sold by third parties for up to $50! This box featured Stargate, Doctor Strange, Futurama, Back to the Future 2, Donnie Darko, and Rick and Morty.

My Favorite Item in the February Nerd Block:

Nerd-Block-February-2017-0021

This card game is pulled straight from one of the best Rick and Morty episodes. While we wait for season 3, all we have is re-runs, this game, and minimal season 3 teasers! Adult Swim even recently Rick Rolled the fans with a fake season 3 trailer:

Number of items: 5

Exclusive Items: Batman food container, shirt, pin, Tetris magnets

About the February Loot Crate: This month's theme was 'BUILD'. This month's big-ticket item was the exclusive LEGO Batman food container - it is insulated to keep hot items hot, and cold items cold. This box featured LEGO Dimension, LEGO Batman, 2 Power Rangers items, and a Tetris item.

My Favorite Item in the February Nerd Block:

Lootcrate-February-2017-0027

With the release of LEGO Batman, this was timed perfectly. I simply use it for desk storage, but it looks great as a standalone figure/statue for your desk - you can even use it as a paperweight.

Geek-Fuel-February-2017-0003

Geek Fuel - Read the Full Review

The Cost: $23.90 a month

COUPON: $3 off your first month + Bonus Items with longer length subscriptions, no coupon required, just use this link

Number of items: 5

Value of items: $70

Exclusive Items: Shirt, print, pin, Zelda charger

About the February Geek Fuel: This month had a MAJOR standout item in the portable Zelda sword charger - it's actually one of my favorites so far this year - even the packaging and unboxing was awesome. This month featured Batman, Stranger Things, Zelda, Fallout, and Archibald’s Adventure Steam Game.

My Favorite Item in the February Geek Fuel:

Geek-Fuel-February-2017-0023

This portable device charger will fulfill your 8-BIT inner-geek. It comes with everything you need to power it up, you'll just need to supply your phone or tablet's charge cable.

Marvel-collector-corps-February-2017-0006

Marvel Collector Corps - Read the Full Review

The Cost: $25 a box plus $6.95 shipping (boxes ship every other month)

Number of items: 7

Value of items: $76

Exclusive Items: All exclusives

About the February Marvel Collector Corps: The February Collector Corps theme was 'Superhero Showdown'. Like most Collector Corps boxes - the hero item, pun intended, is always the POP. This month's POP didn't disappoint as it was a 2-Pack of Bullseye and Daredevil! This month featured Bullseye, Daredevil, Spiderman/Hobgoblin, Cap and Red Skull, Iron Man and Ultron, Hulk and Red Hulk, and Wolverine and Sabretooth.

My Favorite Item in the February Marvel Collector Corps:

Marvel-collector-corps-February-2017-0022

This is the first appearance of Bullseye in POP form, along with a rarer version of Daredevil. You really can't beat 2 exclusive POPs!

Sci-Fan-Block-February-2017-0003

Sci-Fan Block - Read the Full Review

The Cost: $19.99 plus shipping (Shipping is $8.75 to Canada, $9.95 to US, $12.50 Worldwide)

COUPON: Use coupon code NERDADDICTION to save 17% off your first month!

Number of items: 5

Value of items: $65

Exclusive Items: Shirt, Apron, and Belt

About the February Sci-Fan Block: This month's Sci-Fan, which represents Sc-Fi + Fantasy items, was heavily on the Sci-Fi side of things. The hero item was the vinyl Stay Puft figure. It featured Ghostbusters, Buffy, Hellboy, Alien, and Supernatural.

My Favorite Item in the February Sci-Fan Block:

Sci-Fan-Block-February-2017-0024

This FunEdible Stay Puft figure was my easy choice of a favorite item this month. First, I just love vinyl figures - my room is loaded with them, and second, who doesn't love the Ghostbusters!? I also love everything about the buff looking sculpt and expression!

Higher Priced Boxes

Lootaku-Death-February-2017-0003

Lootaku - Read the Full Review

The Cost: $44.99 + shipping ($14.18 to the US)

COUPON: Save 5% off your first month with coupon code MSA5

Number of items: 6

Value of items: $104

Exclusive Items: Fullmetal Alchemist coasters (their first-ever exclusive)

About the February Lootaku: This month's theme was 'DEATH'. The major item was very apparent and front and center - The Dark Souls 2 statue! While the price is much different than other boxes on this list - I thought it'd be a nice inclusion for statue hunters! This month featured Dark Souls 2, 2 Bleach items, and 3 Fullmetal Alchemist items.

My Favorite Item in the February Lootaku:

Lootaku-Death-February-2017-0030

This is just about the only subscription where you'll get a high-value statue. This Dark Souls statue showed off its detail in all of its glory - this is an Aisa exclusive limited release, and it's exclusively early - it's not shipping until July 2017.

Lootcrate-DX-February-2017-0004

Loot Crate DX - Read the Full Review

The Cost: $44.99 + $5 S/H

COUPON: Save 10% off any length subscription, or $3 off month-to-month with coupon code ADDICTION or SAVE3

Number of items: 6

Value of items: $114

Exclusive Items: Pin, Salt and Pepper Shakers, Robotech Veritech Fighter Figure, Socks (exclusive to Loot Socks)

About the February Loot Crate DX: This month's theme was 'BUILD'. The major item of the box has to be the Robotech exclusive variant paint job figure. The normal figures go for around $45-55 on Amazon, so the value in just this figure is probably the cost of the box. It featured Robotech, Loot Socks, Power Rangers, Game of Thrones, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

My Favorite Item in the February Loot Crate DX:

Lootcrate-DX-February-2017-0038

I had previously built this set and, pretty much, love all things McFarlane. While it wasn't the highest value item, it's my favorite.

Verdict:

Favorite Box: Marvel Collector Corps. This was a tougher decision than I thought as February had some strong entries. But double POP + my first-ever Pint Size Hero figures were enough to put it over the top on a second look.

Favorite Item: Daredevil/Bullseye POP. These battle POP sets are too awesome. And it's a rare set of rare characters. Wins all around

I think GeekFuel has been having the best boxes. All of their items seem so unique vs the other boxes with the same old stuff. I’m renewing my GF subscription

Yup-I liked Loot Crate this month…wish I had gotten it.

I think overall value, NerdBlock wins this month, but Lootcrate had my fave item in the Lego Batman container. It’s everything I want in these boxes (besides cool t-shirts) — something that isn’t just another trinket to collect dust on a shelf, but something usable.

Now if they could just improve the Wearables, I’d be a happy subscriber…

Pains me to vote for loot crate considering all of the problems I’ve had with them and their wearables subscriptions, but I can’t deny that’s a great box for the cost. If only they could get their shipping figured out!
