It's no surprise that this January, Our Southern Hearts is celebrating the new year with products aimed to help you accomplish those resolutions. I love that their ideas were inspired by subscriber input!
Moon Flowers Notebook by Archer and Olive - Value $11.00
This saddle-stitched notebook is gorgeous! I'm obsessed with the palette, which feels delicately pretty and ethereal.
Better yet, this 5.65″ x 8.25″ notebook is dotted! Hello, new bullet journal!
I couldn't be happier with this item. It's the kind of notebook that makes me WANT to keep up with writing in it.
Friendship Card - Value $5.00
I love that this box focuses on fresh, unexpected representations of what Southern culture and style are all about. But it's still nice to see a nod to more traditional tropes now and then. And what's more Southern than a pretty peach?
This card is made of textured, watercolor-weight paper, which matches the watercolor-esque design printed on it. (I do believe the design is printed, rather than watercolor-painted directly onto the card.) And it's blank inside, so you can customize the message to your liking. I love having a good (and very cute) excuse to reach out to a friend or family member!
"Comfort and Joy" Mineral Bath Soak, 8 oz. - Listed Value $15.00
This is one of two products in the box from The Essential Good, which focus on additive-free products made with natural ingredients. I've been trying to shift towards using cleaner home and beauty items, so my interest was piqued when I saw this was the January spoiler item for the box.
Pour this mix of sea salts and essential oils into warm bathwater, and it fills the whole bathroom with a beautiful, fruity scent. It's a primarily citrusy aroma, but a kick of cinnamon adds a unique, energizing note. Just soaking in the salt made my skin feel soothed, but I also liked gently scrubbing my skin with it and getting some gentle exfoliation.
Carpet Freshening Grounds in Lavender & Spiced Lemon, 16 oz. - Value $7.00
I've never heard of carpet grounds before, so I didn't really know what to expect with this item. The "grounds" were more of a fine powder than the coffee-grounds-esque texture I expected. I followed the instructions—dusting a bit on your carpet or couch, waiting a short time, then vacuum it up. This product doesn't make the carpet cleaner, but it did leave my room smelling like I just had professional cleaning done! Best of all, because these grounds are scented with essential oils and lemon peel, my sensitive sinuses didn't have any artificial, chemical-based smells freak out over. I'm definitely adding this step to my cleaning routine.
Exclusive "Find Out Who You Are and Do It on Purpose" Cuff Bracelet - Listed Value $8.00
This is my favorite item in the box. One, it's an inspiring quote. Two, it's a Dolly Parton quote! (My queen!) Three, the bracelet is simple yet sophisticated enough to wear in all sorts of occasions, which means I'll always have this little mantra on hand (er—on wrist, haha!)
The metal is flexible, but not so much that it feels cheap. A few small tweaks and I got it to fit comfortably on my wrist. I feel like this cuff will probably leave a green mark after awhile, so I'll probably paint it with clear nail polish before I wear it for a whole day. Just in case!
Verdict: Box after box, I just fall more in love with Our Southern Hearts. The items are so unique (those carpet grounds?) and always of beautiful quality. I feel like they did a great job of representing the theme they set out to convey, too. The value of the items adds up to $46.00, which just over the $39.95 price. I should mention, too, that for a few of the items, I noticed that the listed value they gave on the product list was actually a dollar or two less than the value of similar items on the company's site. In other words, this box is well worth it, in my opinion. Love, love, love!
