For the first time ever, this box came with an info sheet! I’m so pleased that PourMore included information about this bottle and why they picked it!
This shipment also came with an info sheet announcing some changes coming soon to PourMore. In the coming months, subscribers will be able to start reviewing their bottles and will receive personalized recommendations based on which bottles they like and dislike.
Now on to the bourbon!
Wigle Organic Pennsylvania Bourbon - Value $58.00
This month’s Bourbon Explorer selection is a 92-proof organic bourbon whiskey from Pennsylvania’s Wigle Distillery. Wigle is a new discovery for me, and I love the quirky, modern design of the label:
This bourbon is made using winter wheat, malted barley, and Wapsie Valley corn.
This bourbon smells wonderful. On the nose, I get a sweet corn aroma with hints of oak, vanilla, and caramel.
From the smell of this bourbon, I was expecting the flavor to be sweet and caramel-y, but it’s a lot more reserved than that. It’s dry, spicy, and smoky. There is a little bit of sweetness, but it reminds me more of dark brown sugar than the caramel/ toffee flavor I expected to find. I like this bourbon, but I’m not sure I like it enough to drink it straight. I think I’ll probably reserve this bottle for cocktails.
Verdict: I really enjoy discovering new distilleries with my PourMore subscription! This bottle isn’t my favorite, but I like it. (Last month’s pick from Litchfield distillery is a hard bottle to top!) The value of this month’s pick doesn’t meet the cost of the subscription, but it’s important to note that the value does fluctuate from month to month. In the last few months, I’ve seen bottles range in value from $42.99 all the way up to $99.99.
