Tutu-Royal-March-2017-Booklet

The information card told the theme this month: Butterfly Behavior. It explained the STEM princess characteristic of the month: Tenacity. It also listed each item in the box and had a small piece of literature about lepidopterists (scientists who study butterflies and moths) and an expert lepidopterist named M. Deane Bowers.

Characteristic Card

This month’s characteristic card is about tenacity. This card encourages your princess to focus on a time when they were tenacious and write about it. I thought this card was a good chance for self-reflection.

Perfectly Purple Princess Dress - $15.00?

My daughter loved her purple princess dress. It had short cap sleeves and lots of intricate details. There is a side zipper to help get it on and off. The sizing ran a bit small in my opinion so we are going to change that for next month.

Butterfly Barrette - $5.00?

The butterfly barrette was so sparkly and I thought fit the theme this month nicely. The purple coordinated with the dress and my daughter loves purple so she was delighted.

Flower Clip - $3.00?

This flower was attached to an alligator clip and stay in my daughter’s thin hair well. It also matched the dress so nicely.

Time for Kids: Butterflies! By Editors of TIME for Kids - $3.99

This book matched the butterfly theme and was an informative and well-photographed look at different kinds of butterflies. It taught about the butterfly life cycle as well. My daughter loves animals and was very interested in this book even though she’s not even four year old.

Tutu-Royal-March-2017-Cookie

Two Dolls Bakery Butterfly Cookie - $4.00?

This lavender butterfly frosted sugar cookie was gobbled down immediately and it tasted just as good as it looked. This was a nice little treat to find in the box!

Verdict: My daughter absolutely flipped over this box and I was happy to see how much was included for the $20 price point. I am estimating the value of the box to be around $31 which I’m happy with. I like the idea that this box is mixing princess dress-up fun with some emphasis on education, STEM and confidence boosting literature. I also appreciate that with each subscription purchased Tutu Royal donates a subscription to an adoption agency. What a great way for us to feel like someone’s fairy godmother.

What an amazing box! I tend to roll my eyes when I see STEM themes because I feel the term is over-used for the purposes of marketing to parents. Everything is “STEM” these days. When I was a kid, it was called playing with legos, not engineering 😉

But, the fact that this box focuses on girls’ self esteem and donates to a charity is a huge win. Tenacity is a great teaching concept and the value for the box is wonderful. My newborn daughter is way too young but I am buying this anyway for when she gets older.

Ohmygosh, I’m so happy this exists!! I would have absolutely loved this to pieces as a kid. I think that the characteristic cards are really important – I found my own way of “dressing up” with blankets, etc. and “doing research” but self-awareness and confidence boosts are really what help you succeed and be happy in life.

Great. Another girls sub that is nothing but princess stuff with a little larnin’ Seriously, can’t girls who hate this stuff get a break? I have to list my 6 year old boy with awesome pack so she does not choke on pink.

The most expensive item is a princess dress.
