I just got an email about the presale, and it is $199 again, but this time it says that there will be four boxes. I did the presale last year, and like everyone else, I think it was a terrible plan. In addition to the higher price, they offered a previous box at 1/2 price to the people who were buying them on the sale date. That offer was not extended to the presale customers.

I Pre ordered last year and felt ripped off when I saw the boxes being sold at a reduced price on their website .The boxes were nothing but drugstore products. The last box arrived late and I could not believe the size of the box! I don’t even believe there was enough items in the box to cover the price I paid The wen product has horrible reviews and complaints that I didn’t even use the item. I remember the excitement receiving the large box in the mail FULL of amazing products . Unfortunately things have changed . I will pass this time the spoilers look like last years items.

I am wondering if the lack of spoilers for the May box is a good or bad thing. For example, full spoilers for the December box were up in October.

Yep, that’s last May. I remember every single one of these items.

Fyi – that’s last year’s box. Hopefully we’ll have some spoilers soon, though!

I won’t be doing the presale this year since there was really no point last time. The boxes never sold out quickly. I will check it out though when the item preview is released and decide if I will buy on the day of.

I would be tempted to buy it, but not prepaying. If by the time they go on sale none are left, oh well… not meant to be then.

I wouldn’t do the pre-sale I like to see what I am buying. I have to agree I would love to see more makeup and beauty products then the normal hair and drugstore products but they are still a good deal you can always gift or stock up on products you already have. I think ppl that get a lot of beauty box find it to be a waste for them. it like repeat products … Fingers crossed this box will have a few wow products in it.

I know a lot of people were burned by the prepayment premium charged last year, but I honestly think y’all are grossly exaggerating how great the boxes used to be vs now. I looked up reviews going back several years and it was still overwhelmingly filled with drugstore products (yes, even toothpaste and deodorant!) with just a few medium-range products thrown in (Cargo, IT Cosmetics, to name two). The value has remained pretty consistent and the brands have been repeated over & over throughout the years. I really believe this is a case of there being SO many beauty boxes on the market now that we’re jaded and the Beauty Thrill is gone, so to speak. 😉

I have been getting these boxes for years, and I am okay with drugstore products. Where I feel they lost value is that they size of the box shrunk dramatically with the last box. I was disappointed because the last one seemed to be half the size of the prior boxes. I still liked it and planned to continue buying them, but I would really like to see them go back to the more loaded boxes. (If production cost was an issue, I would have paid more for a better box).

You’re right. It was the decrease in the amount of products. If you’ve been recieving them long before the mysubscriptionaddiction.com website or reviews, then you’ve seen the quality and quanity decrease as the years go on. With that being said though, they are my favorite box and do have incredible value even with toothpaste and blister pads lol. I even suspect Allure cut the value by making more boxes available for more customers, which I can appreciate.

Goldie007

The previous years did contain drugstore products but they also contained premium beauty items too. However, last year there were zero of those products. What was offered did not come close the price we paid for the boxes. I can only give my opinion but a presale offer for these boxes is just not the way to go. Now that a preview and post sale of the boxes are available (at discount prices), there is no need to preorder them. This late release of the 2017 boxes may be a good sign that Allure is trying to improve the process and boxes (I hope….).

I prepaid last year. The boxes were decent and my family could use all the products. They are not high end but practical drugstore type items. I wouldn’t prepay again…however the upshot last time was they sent me two of the boxes twice for free due to a shipping glich…so it brought the cost down.

Cindy

In the past they have shown the contents of the box in advance. I wonder when that will be available.

Becca

Was a pre-payer and it was such a disappointment. I even cancelled my normal monthly Allure box. Never again and I hope Allure sees why.

SAME!!

PASS! Looks like the last box was all cheap drug store items! Not worth it to me. I’m spoiled with all my high end skincare and makeup from all my other boxes!

Nyesha

I thought I was the only one who felt spoiled lol. Shine on!!

Michelle

It ends up being a Birchbox times 2 for $50. Not worth it. I can go buy 20 travel size toothpaste and lotion for much less.

Hard pass! I learned an expensive lesson last year. I prepaid and the boxes got worse and worse. Then the discounted boxes just made it worse. I might buy the boxes as I always like hair product anyway, but I’ll definitely wait and see. If it sells out, no FOMO here. I’ll consider it a sign I didn’t need it in the first place LOL

Giselle

Pass! Pass! Pass! Seriously, cant pass it up quickly enough. Sorry Allure but I’m predicting a box with even more toothpaste/toothbrush, hair/body wash and other boring products I could care less about. What happened to the incredible deal and products that packed the first box? The fact that it is not immediately selling out should give you a hint at the lackluster products you have placed in these most recent boxes.

Reply ButtonReply

Goldie007

I agree! I have enough toothbrushes and toothpaste from these boxe to last for years! What happened to the products showcased in the Allure magazine? In the past, the inclusion of those products made this box popular and a great value.

Reply ButtonReply

catbert

Yeah, I don’t get why people want it, either. But oh well. 🙂

Which one was the first Thrills box, btw? Winter of 2015?

Tjhanna

They also used to just be called “Allure Beauty box” Thrills is very recent. I imagine this happens to have something to do with the recent addition of their monthly box.

Tjhanna

They’ve had them for years and years. I’ve been purchasing them for at least 7 years. They used to have them advertised in their magazine which is where I was first introduced to them. The value used to be insane though with high end make up. They’ve progressively gone down hill. To me the value is still there even if the high end items have been swapped out with deodorant, toothpaste, lotion, face wash, body wash and shampoo and conditioner. I use all that stuff and couldn’t pick it all up for under $50. It’s still a win in a way. But nothing like those good ole days with awesome boxes.

Goldie007

Last year I did the presale and it was a complete waste of money for me. After 3 years of doing the presale, I have found that the boxes are getting smaller and smaller and the items are of less value from year to year. Based on the 2016 boxes, I will not be prepaying for this box anymore. I am not saying that I will never buy the box again. However, I am going to wait for MSA preview of the box contents and then act to buy that specific box.

My last reason for approaching Allure with a little fear occurred in 2016. In October of 2016, I experienced a problem with my “monthly” Allure box (i.e. monthly $15 box) that resulted in the cancellation of the subscription. While cancelling that subscription, Allure also cancelled my last box on my 2016 Allure Beauty Thrills prepurchase. Why the 2 accounts were linked together is still a mystery to me! Anyway, it took months of repeated calls and emails to get Allure to send me my final box of my “2016 prepurchase”. This matter was finally cleared up in February of 2017! Due to my demands and complaints, Allure also refunded me the cost of that box. Wow! They actually felt that they were doing me a “customer service” favor in that move.

In summation, I was the big dummy for paying more for the yearly boxes. I did not receive good customer service for the extra dollars, I received goods that were clearly inferior to previous year’s boxes and would have lost out on an entire box if I had done nothing but waited for Allure to ship it.

Ooooh! I am definitely marking my calendar! Although I doubt I will do the pre-sale again this year. I did it last year and felt totally duped into paying more money. I do think that these boxes are a tremendous value for what is charged……I am definitely going to purchase one when it becomes available on May 15……

Presale? Not this time. I will not be tricked again! Heck, the boxes were available for months! And I paid more upfront. I’ll just set my calendar for oh, sometime in the month of may or June and pick one up 😊 Love these boxes but the presale was NOT a good deal.

I agree. I did the pre-sale last year and was SO irritated that I’d paid a premium when the individual boxes went on sale, had free postage, etc.

I did pre-sell last year. Big Mistake. Such a disappointment. Since they had boxes left over last year, wonder if there will be repeat products.

pre-sale…oops

Interesting! I emailed them a few months ago to ask if they were selling them again this year and was told “we do not have Beauty Thrills for this year.” I took that as a “no” but – I guess not…. I’ve done the pre-sale in the past but highly doubt I’ll do it this time since there were so many boxes left last year that people were able to get a discount while I paid a little extra for each box with the pre-sale.

Yeah, I got a Thrills box for $25 last year, and wasn’t even happy with that. It’s all hair care, very little skincare, and no makeup. Oh, and a few personal care items (like toothpaste). To be honest, I didn’t understand what that box was even supposed to be.

YESSSSS!!!!! I’ve been waiting for this announcement! For me, these boxes are always a win! Can’t wait to see what the Spring box will include!

Thanks for this update!

“For pre-sale, you have the option to buy all the boxes up front. If you want to purchase only the May box, it will be available for sale on May 15th” – this is really confusing. Are there going to be several thrill boxes? How many? how thrill box different from may box?

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Sorry for the confusion. I don’t have a confirmed count on the number of boxes for the year yet. Likely 3 or 4.

And it is all full size items. Here’s a review of a past box: https://www.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/2016/06/allure-beauty-thrills-box-may-2016-review.html

Hope that helps!

Just clicking back to that link made me realize how many of those products I really used and loved. I do want to reserve all the boxes – sounds like a great plan, but I think they should do away with an upcharge. Maybe now that these last few have had leftover boxes, they will just let us prepay without that upcharge. Fingers crossed. (I never knew they had this option before, and I did miss one box once because of not being able to get online in the 1st 20 minutes. I think it was August 2015.)

Svetlana7e

Liz, thank you so much. Definitely helps.

Barbie

I think there are usually three boxes a year.

In the past, they’ve been hard to get on the sale date, so Allure offers a presale option of paying for all three boxes for the year up front to ensure that you will get the boxes without the stress of trying to place an order (and possibly being disappointed if they sale out) on the sale day.

There is a risk – you may not like what they’re offering in one or all of the boxes. (I think that was the case with many people last year.) You won’t know what’s in the boxes until Allure releases spoilers. So even if you know what’s in the May box, you’ll be buying the Summer & Winter boxes blind.

Also, in the past, pre-sale is usually a little more that it would be if you’re able to get the boxes when the sale opens to everyone. I think it’s usually ballpark around $10 more per box.

I hope this helps.

Wait, you are buying all three boxes up front, and they charge you MORE? Not give you a discount?? This seems completely counter intuitive to me. Shouldn’t they be giving you a discount if you agree to pay for all 3 boxes in advance? Horrible business model; that’s no way to reward your loyal customers.
