I have a feeling like in the next year or so bb will be geared toward the men boxes and not so much this box..the guys just seem to have over all better items and sizes of them..imho

I’m super bummed I didn’t check the curated boxes! For me & my curly hair, both curly & dry hair boxes would have been a good match.

I’m trying to see if I can switch out my box since it hasn’t shipped.

I bought into Beta for a year because they made me a good offer, and for the past 5 months I’ve been happy. But like everyone else I’m not crazy about this month’s options.

I’ve had BB for a while and have been continually less and less impressed. My first box was fabulous, but it was their anniversary so I think they went the extra mile on that one. I was hoping to get in on the beta box, but no luck. I think I’ll choose the Mac strobe cream and see if they can get the other 4 right for May; if not, bye-bye Birchbox!

I am relieved to hear that so many others are NOT excited about the choices or the curated box this month. Misery loves company I guess. I really wish they would step it up – maybe add more questions to the personal profile. I haven’t been truly excited since January.

Aww crap, I just subscribed because of the photo still up on the BB site where you can click to sign up, with the Benefit they’re real lipstick, Tata Harper resurfacing mask, Cicipar, Amika, and Bumble and Bumble stuff, the same photo that is at the top of this post, thinking that it was the stuff that would be possible to get in May’s box, and now I am super sad because I kind of don’t want any of the stuff listed in the choices, premade box, or spotlight boxes, NONE of it, not one thing. The only thing that would be not a total let down is the strobe cream, but that’s just because it’s MAC, i don’t even use highlight of any kind what so ever. I may just have to cancel already before even getting my first box.

Not excited about any of it. Not the curated box, not any of the 3 sample choices. I will be letting Birchbox decide what to send me. Not ready to cancel because of a crap box, but not too thrilled with the choices either.

So this would mean BB is now an authorized retailer for MAC? It’s in incredibly tightly controlled brand sold in a limited few retail outlets. Curious if they’ve become a licensed retailer.

Reply ButtonReply

Nicole

Birchbox added MAC to the brands they carry several months ago.

Reply ButtonReply

Marie

I was wondering the same thing, but then again, I do believe that Ulta is about to start selling MAC too.

So glad I canceled BB. Really rare for me not to like even ONE item in the sample choices or the curated box, but then I’m not into sunscreens or tanning.

Reply ButtonReply

CHS

I hate all of these choices. Boring, boring, boring. Time to finally unsubscribe.

Reply ButtonReply

Lauren

I was just wondering can anyone tell me what the difference between an illuminater and strobe cream? Thanks

Reply ButtonReply

CHS

The name. MAC calls it strobe cream. It’s marketing without meaning.

I actually love the self-tanner, but I am no longer subscribing to Birchbox due to the repeat stuff and small sample size. Part of me is just kind of sampled-out, where I have sampled so many things that I get pickier and pickier as time goes on. I’m grateful to Birchbox for introducing me to a few of my “go-to” products, but to me it doesn’t hold its value anymore. I’d prefer a Target box where I’ll use all the stuff because it’s practical and the cost is lower but the value is higher.

This will be my last BB. I’ve been with them for 2 years now, and I can see while someone that wants lots of small skin & hair care & vials of perfume samples might like them. I have tried it all and found a way to manage my oily skin. Messing with that makes me look like a grease bomb OR too matte-I still like to glow. I have not liked their perfume samples, and tiny vials are usually free elsewhere. I really want to try fun makeup and would be happy if at least 2-3 items were makeup, but at most there is ever 1. I’m happy I tried it out, and happy this is my last box from them! The only sub I still have and enjoy is ipsy (because-makeup & polish & cute bags is what I want!) I don’t miss the BB5 box or Walmart boxes I used to get.

April

I wish you could pick 2-3 of your samples each month from a lineup of like 15-20 options!

Reply ButtonReply

Tracie Szakal

YES!! It would be nice to be able to pick a little more, but also still get a couple of surprises 🙂 I get BB and ipsy and I like both.

Julie B.

April, that would make too much sense!

Dianne

Cancelling nothing interesting or fun or anything I want. I signed up for beta but nothing in any if the boxes looks fun. Just boring.

Jody

Yeah, I just cancelled too.

I’ve got my first Birchbox this month, the curated one. And I’m super happy with Vasanti moisturizer, Benefit lipstick, and Tocca parfume (also the Smashbox eyeshadows bonus). All samples are tiny, though, still was very good box for me.

I see the coming box and it’s upsetting. Definitely will not go with the sample choices — total bummer. Neither with the surprise box, I heard it doesn’t match your profile quiz at all, risk is not for me. And the curated one also is not that great. 2 sunscreens in one box, really? The Clarins one has dimethicone on the FIRST place. That trash is not safe for your health. Mac and Ouai seems appealing, but does it worth it? Still have time to unsubscribe, will seriously think about it.

Horrible choices

My sub is up in June and I’m over Birchbox. I’m tired of tiny samples that are half empty- Coola is notorious for this. And with summer coming there will be products that I have no interest in. There will be no regrets when I cancel. And interestingly I just received my email about Beta yesterday. That one is a big – NO.

Reply ButtonReply

Rebecca

Just cancelled. It felt great! That $10 will be much better spent elsewhere.

Keri

Not too excited this month. Even being a beta member they have nothing for my lifeless, oily hair. I don’t know if i’m ready to give up on BB yet.

My monthly struggle with Birchbox: I really am not WOWed very often anymore, I don’t know if this is worth it for me. But it’s only $10 a month and the surprises can be fun when they aren’t boring or terrible! But over the course of a year that’s enough money to be significant.

I like the MAC strobe cream (and I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a MAC product from Birchbox before) so that’s good at least.

The curated box this time is not impressive to me. Mascara (BLAH) and 2 sunscreen products (I have sunscreen samples galore left over from LAST year’s Birchboxes as it is). As a brand overall I don’t love Manna Kandar and we see it a LOT in the different boxes. I do like that wave spray a lot, I got it from Sephora last year I think.

Marissa

I signed up last month for the smashbox palette (so worth it) but I was a subscriber for more than two years back when they had the review for points system. This month the curated box looks terrible. The hair stuff I have tried and does nothing for my dry wavy hair BUT the strobe and tanner are both paraben free and haven’t amazing reviews. Has anyone used the tanner? The reviews are phenomenal online! I might have to pick a self tanner for the first time in my life lol

Reply ButtonReply

Cara

I sampled the tanner about a year ago. It works really well. But for some reason my skin would smell super weird overnight while it was on. I can’t even describe the smell and it was probably the product and not my skin. But it wasn’t pleasant. I would be paranoid that I smelled bad the next day. But none of the reviewers seemed to notice the smell so maybe it was just my nose.

April was my last box with Birchbox after 4.5 years… things have just gone too downhill. I get, based on their media comments last year, that they’re not too invested in the subscription game anymore. So I think that’s why the samples get worse, less innovation and discovery, and no matches to profiles. It made it pretty easy to break up after such a long-term relationship with their sub.

On a positive note, I’ve now qualified as Sephora Rouge now that I shop at Sephora instead of BB 🙂

(maybe they should take those kinds of things into account before alienating subscribers, also).

ReneeH

Do you get the Sephora Play! box as well? I’ve been getting it for a while now and I absolutely love it! It’s all high-end products and if they send you a fragrance sample, it’s on top of the five or six you already get it…it doesn’t count as a product like the lame, tiny BB perfume samples do. Plus you get 50 bonus points every month when you redeem your card. Best high and box IMO for $10!

I’m seriously Manna Kadar’ed out. No more. Please. Between the different subscriptions, I always get at least 1 or 2 Manna Kadar products each month. And frankly, I don’t think they’re that great.

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

Totally agree!! I just got one in my LuxePineapple Post this month, at least it’s a new product I haven’t received before vs that damn eye shadow/bronzer duo or whatever that I had three of and couldn’t give away. I’m sick of the brand, and Coola, I had Birchbox for 6 years and quit about a year ago and don’t miss it at all. I got Coola a ton and didn’t care for it at all.

Reply ButtonReply

Hillary

Right? Like why is this brand still a thing?

Reply ButtonReply

Dawn

For the first time in years I am ready to let Birchbox go. It makes me sad because I have been with them for so many years but it’s time to breakup. 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Julie B.

That sounds so sadly romantic lol.

I want to love Birchbox, they are such a staple for the sub industry. I had Birchbox for 3 months and just cancelled. Product profile match was non existent. For the beta boxes, which I briefly considered signing up for for better matching, where is the option for the normal and/or fine hair group? Everyone else is covered. The same issue I was having with my monthly boxes…..insert sad face….

Reply ButtonReply

Meghan

I am a beta member right now, but I’m not sure if I will continue it after this month. I used the pick one, skip one option in April and ended up with a pretty good box that was worth around $40. However, I think I would have been just as happy paying $10 for last month’s curated box. This month’s curated box doesn’t really interest me at all. A couple of the spotlight boxes look ok and at least they all come with a bonus sample or two. The Living Proof product looks interesting too. I have been wanting to try out different hair products for air-drying. So if I end up picking the Living Proof sample, I’ll pay $15 as a beta member for something I could have paid $10 for. I just don’t see the beta version lasting too much longer.
