Now, time for the items!

OFRA Cosmetics Highlighter in Rodeo Drive – Value $35

(All subscribers will receive this item this month.)

Boxy-Charm-April-2017-0007

This highlighter is STUNNING! It's super shimmery, and it's highly pigmented, so you only need one sweep of the brush for highlights.

Here it is swatched with the next item:

The second swatched product is this lipgloss:

Boxy-Charm-April-2017-0011

Allegory Story Lip Gloss in Plato's Cave - Value $15

Boxy-Charm-April-2017-0012

This brand is new to me, and I'm impressed with the formula. It is Vegan, Cruelty-Free, Paraben Free, Phthalate Free and Gluten Free.

The lip gloss has excellent shine, and good pigment, too. I didn't find it to be too sticky, either.

Measurable Difference Concealer Palette – Value $20

(All subscribers will receive this item this month.)

Boxy-Charm-April-2017-0014

If you love palettes, Boxycharm is definitely the subscription box for you. They send out more palettes than any other beauty box. Boxycharm usually sends an eyeshadow palette, so this mixes it up a bit!

Boxy-Charm-April-2017-0015

I love that this kit should work for all skin tones. And I need a different colored concealer for my under eye circles than for regular blemish concealing, so I'll be using multiple shades.

Swatch party time! Here are all the shades on the left:

Boxy-Charm-April-2017-0022

And all the shades on the right:

The formulas are creamy and well pigmented, too. (You could also use these colors for contouring/highlighting.)

PUR Blend Squad 3-Piece Contour Blending Sponge Set – Value $36

(Subscribers will either receive this set or the “Brush Duo” which includes the Liquid Chisel Brush + the Airbrush Blurring)

Boxy-Charm-April-2017-0019

How adorable are these beauty sponges?

Boxy-Charm-April-2017-0018

I'm a Beauty Blender addict, but I'm always happy to try a new (and less pricey) beauty sponge.

Boxy-Charm-April-2017-0020

If you aren't familiar with these tools, first you wet them, then squeeze out any excess water. This will allow the sponge to expand a bit, and it's good to go! You'll use it in place of a brush to apply foundation. The trick is to "bounce" it across your skin instead of painting with it.

Using a Beauty Blender always makes my foundation look more flawless than a makeup brush, and these sponges gave me the same result. I also really like that there's a flat side - its great for larger surface areas.

I think this stacks up really well to the Beauty Blender in terms of application. Looking at the reviews on Pur's site, it seems like some customers had issues with the sponge tearing only after a few washes, so I'll be watching for that.

Boxy-Charm-April-2017-0009

Project Beauty Hairgurt Strawberry Banana Smoothing Yogurt Shampoo – 4 oz Value $16

(Good to know for subscription box swaps - this has an inner foil seal)

Boxy-Charm-April-2017-0010

This shampoo is free of sulfates, parabens, and it smells SO GOOD! (It totally takes me back to my childhood shampoo of choice - L'Oreal Kids No Tears shampoo.)

Verdict: This box has a value of about $112! As always, the value for Boxycharm is amazing! This is another box where I will use every single item, too. And it's really tough to pick a favorite product for April!

I have been a Boxy Charm Subscriber for over two and a half years. I love them. Yes, I agree that this box is a little disappointing, but their disappointing boxes are so few and far inbetween. Not to mention, the value is always there. Do I wish they would however stop these huge gapped differential priced boxes… YES!… but they also curate their boxes on trend. Countoring is on trend right now. So maybe that’s the reason for the the countoring kits two boxes in a row… with the weather getting warmer, people tend to put less product in their face and make up colors get lighter…. so maybe and hopefully next month will be better.

I have a question. So i like a few items from previous boxes and am a little dissapointed because i am just now going to sign up for this. Is there a chance i will get those products or am i not going to because they are already in a previous month box? Does everyone get different boxes?

Reply ButtonReply

Marie

I signed up in February and I’ve gotten three items from previous boxes.

Julia

I was going to cancel Boxycharm after seeing the spoilers for this month but I actually tried this palette as cream eyeshadows and highlighting and I was really happy with it. They also sent me a liquid lipstick in a color that is PERFECT for me. So my love/hate relationship with them continues lol.

I just received my box today and was so excited until I opened it and saw that I was missing two items. I was so disappointed. Has anyone had experience with boxycharm replacing missing items ?
I am just wondering if I should look forward to getting replacements or not.

Reply ButtonReply

Janice

Not with Boxy, but ipsy, BBox and Glamour always manage to be missing items or (especially powder eyeshadow, highlighters, and blush) they arrive damaged.
Glamour is the most responsive followed by ipsy (Haven’t preferred bags Dec.-April) and BBox.

This happened to my March box…it appeared to have been tampered with and only included 2 items. I had to send them a photo of what I received and they told me they would send me replacement items. I don’t have them yet but feel confident they will be shipped.

Reply ButtonReply

Natalie

I had a very hard time getting in touch with them (almost a month) so I would send a few emails from diff emails if I were you, but once you get in touch with them they should send you a whole new box or the missing items depending on the representative you get! 🙂 Good luck!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY BOX!!!!!! I got my Rodeo drive, concealer palette, 3 piece blending squad, and 2 unexpected items that I am extremely happy about a KISS PROOF LIP CREME BY BELLAPIERRE in Antique Pink & BRIGHTENING HYDRATING COCONUT GEL MASK X3 BY FARMACY(My favorite brand). 🤗🤗

MJ

Me too, love it!!!

Kaitlynn Marie

Yeah, this box seals it for me. I need to sub to this box.

Christine

I’m impressed Liz’s highlighter came to her so clean. Mine had the highlighter powder all on the plastic top and had leaked out into the exterior. It didn’t get over the box though because it comes in bubble wrap. Like it isn’t ruined but like I had to wipe down the exterior and the interior of the product. It is a really fragile formula.

Jamie

FYI-the concealer palette is sold for $5 at Five Below, so that does lessen the value a bit.

Reply ButtonReply

Samantha Parker

It doesn’t lessen the value at all. That brand just sells to other retailers that sell it for $5. It’s still a $20 value.

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

In that case, they can assign an arbitrary value to anything. Those sponges could be “valued” at $100. For me, a value is how much it would cost me to buy it. And the answer is $5.

Andrea

If I sign up now would I get this box or is there a waitlist for it?

Reply ButtonReply

Jess

When I signed up (around the 3rd or 4th of the month), I didn’t have to be on the wait list, but I still did not receive a box until the following month. I’m thinking if you sign up now (fingers crossed you aren’t put on the wait list as well) that you should receive next month’s box. 🙂

Andrea

But not this one?

Andrea

But not this box?

Marianne

Would love the beauty blenders and the serum in my box! Fingers crossed!

So sad, not a new subscriber but got the brushes 🙁 was SOOO looking forward to those sponges, theyre nice brushes but i love sponges.
Also I didnt get the hairgurt I got the aloepure time repair serum which is full sized and looks so promising
I also got a cargo eyeshadow in like a satin purple silver shade, wanted that allegory brown lipgloss because I wear brown lipstick on the daily.

If anyone wants to swap the brushes/eyeshadow let me know!
Still so grateful for the other items! 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Faith

Hi Chelsey,

I got the sponges and would love to trade for the brushes if you are interested.

Reply ButtonReply

Catherine

I’d swap the blenders for the brushes! Happily. I didn’t end up getting the brown lip gloss I got a pur lip in fiery instead so I can’t swap for brown.

Reply ButtonReply

Chantal Lebel

I got the Allegory Story in Plato’s Closet and would trade for the eyeshadow if interested!

Reply ButtonReply

Deanne

I haven’t got my box yet or the email from this site saying I can swap which is annoying- BUT I will not use brown lipgloss or the sponges if that’s what I get so I may check back with you!

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica

If I get the sponges I’d trade for the brushes!!

Reply ButtonReply

Cheyenne

I also got this variation and I am so much happier! The only difference is that I did get the sponges.
I’m curious for reviews on the shadow! I want to try it but I don’t want to keep it if it’s similar to a few other shades I own already.

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle p

It’s so funny I got the same exact things you got and I’m not a new subscriber. I was hoping for the sponges too and the gloss🙁 I though only new subscribers where getting the brushes.

Reply ButtonReply

Julie

Oh wow I hope I get the variation you got! I’d love the serum, brushes, and eyeshadow! My shipping always takes forever.

Reply ButtonReply

Marie

I got the same box.

Reply ButtonReply

April j

The aloepure is amazing.

Reply ButtonReply

Julia

I need to sub to this box – I love everything this month. Even though I really don’t need another highlighter, I love the pigment on the Ofra and it would be a glam eyeshadow. Those sponges are so cute. I’d almost hate to cover them in my foundation!

Reply ButtonReply

Neonsaylor

I love project beauty. I received this same shampoo before (I believe in boxycharm) and ended up buying a bunch of product off their site. Yay!

Reply ButtonReply

Mel

I really hope I get the cargo gloss. That’s the one i am definitely the most excited about

Reply ButtonReply

CT

I needed new sponges and a concealer pallette! Thank you BoxyCharm!

Now we just need a blush pallette for the Spring/Summer 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Kc

Oh that would be perfect!

Reply ButtonReply

SquirrelyGirl

So excited for this box!!! I am really grateful for Boxycharm. They allow me to try products I really couldn’t (or wouldn’t) normally spend the money on. The value is amazing! I am most excited for the highlighter and fingers crossed I get the beauty blenders

Everything looks great…but does anyone find lip products in brownish nude shades flattering? Guess I’m old fashioned in just wanting pink shades for lip.

Reply ButtonReply

Siren

Brownish nude shades are my best colors as I’m a redhead… but then they don’t look “nude” on me because I’m so pale, they appear copper 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Bonnie

I love both! Pinks and brown/nudes. I love getting subs because I like trying all these new products and shades. I’m open to just about anything, although they do seem to come in waves…one month everybody’s sending reds, then everybody’s sending nudes. There are very few colors I hate wearing, but even when those arrive, I give them a try to see if maybe this one is workable. Boxes have helped me get over my aversion to red and dark lipsticks, as I’m always game to try whatever they send. (My skin tone is on the dark side of medium.)

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

just a thought… I love pink also yet it is fun to try other colors. I loved the gloss over top of my dark pink it comes out to be a beautiful shade!

Lola

I am very pale skinned. I don’t like nude lip color as a rule but I find the brown nude colors are useful in changing the color of a lipstick I wouldn’t be able to wear like an orange red to a cooler red so that I can wear the color. I line my lips and then fill them in with the liner before I put on the lipstick or gloss. Also keeps the color in the lines. Not my favorite color but it can be put to use.

Reply ButtonReply

Julie B.

Thanks for the tip!

Karen

Brown nude shades on pale skin looks weird to me, I think it look more flattering on brown or black skin so I guess some find it flattering.

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

Pinks are too light for me and make me look washed out, so yes, brownish nudes are more flattering for me. People have different skin tones and different tones so different things work for different people. I don’t know that generalizing things to ‘anyone’ is recognizing that when something may not just work for you, personally, when it does personally work for other people.

Reply ButtonReply

April JK

Same. “Old fashioned” like, before makeup companies catered to darker skinned women?? I wish people would think before they type. There are millions of women that don’t find pinky hues flattering.

Jessica

Lip products in brownish nude shades remind me of the 90s, which makes me feel old 😂 They’re not the first colors I typically reach for, but I think they could be fun with tan and/or bronzed summer skin.

I just signed up but it says I’m on the waitlist? Does this mean I won’t get Aprils box?

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica

Whatever month you get notification that you’re off the waitlist/your card has been charged will be the first box you receive, regardless of when during the month they charge you. The waitlist seems to be a recent development because they’ve had high demand. Hope you get a box soon!

Thanks so much Jessica! 🙋🏻

Christine

I like this month’s theme (at least it makes some sense) and the products look fun.

I love that concealer palette!

Reply ButtonReply

Rochelle

Yes, I’m in the market for a concealer. I picked up one from Walmart in a deep shade but it’s way too light. I don’t know how to use the neauty blenders, I’m hoping to get the brushes instead.

nancyisshopping

I am really looking forward to the Hairgurt and the sponges and the highlighter. This looks like another amazing box for me!

Reply ButtonReply

Melody

I am so happy to see a nude gloss! I would be happy with this one or the Cargo one.

Reply ButtonReply

Ashby

Me too! I just got my Beauty Fix today and the red lipstick is amazing except for the red part! Made me long for a nice neutral shade.

Reply ButtonReply

Regina

I keep getting them, but I’ve never used highlighter. I do plan to try this one, I love Ofra, will be looking to my daughter for tips. I always use brushes, never sponges, these are just so pretty, I think I will give these a try as well! I’m looking forward to the concealer palette, and the shampoo, and I always love to try different lipsticks and glosses. Looks like a good box!

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

I use highlighters as eyeshadow, so there are more used than just for highlighting purposes 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Lia

I’ve never tried beauty blenders because I have been hiding under a rock. I am so excited to get these tools. My 3 month sub to boxycharm renews on May 2nd and I was planning on canceling due to product overload – but how can I when they come up with boxes like this one. So excited to get mine – arriving on Monday. Love everything in the box- thanks Liz! Looking forward to spoilers for May for all the boxes so I can trim down my 12 box subscription 😳

Kc

Can’t wait for my box to ship, always takes so long to get to me but it’s worth the wait.
