Altru Canvas Banner

This is the first item from CAUSEBOX's new home brand: Altru! It measures 14 by 17 inches.

Causebox-spring-2017-0057

This is a quality piece. The canvas is a heavy-duty material, and the embroidery work is impressive, too.

Causebox-spring-2017-0058

This banner was created with the design team at Trube Alive. Each letter was individually cut and sewn by artisans in Jaipur, India.

I love getting home items in boxes, and I appreciate this one is easy to hang and display! Plus I'm excited to see more home items from this brand in future boxes.

This ingredient conscious room spray is a made with a blend of Lemon, Sweet Orange, Tangerine, Grapefruit and Lime Essential oils. So it smells AMAZING!

The only downside to me is that it's a light fragrance, so it doesn't linger as long as I wish it did.

Lili Arnold Print

Causebox-spring-2017-0020

Every season, CAUSEBOX sends out a new 5" X 7" art print from a different artist. For the welcome box, you also get this wood frame, to display your print. (Check out my review of the Welcome Box to see the frame.)

Causebox-spring-2017-0022

The Renewal Workshop $20 Coupon Code

Causebox-spring-2017-0024

Lastly, this box includes a coupon code to use at Renewal Workshop - a site that cleans and repairs "unsellable" inventory from top brands to prevent it from going in landfills.

Verdict: It's difficult to calculate a value for this box since there are so many exclusive items. I think $54.95 for this box seems like a great deal for all the products you get, and how they give back. (And it's even better for the $44.95 cost when you sign up with coupon code WELCOME10.)

This is one of those boxes that makes you feel good about every single item and the causes they support, and as an added bonus the value is great, too.

This is my second Causebox and although I like many of the items, I dont think the value is as good as the Winter box. Pros: I LOVE the earrings, mug, and print. Cons: The Causebox website lists the banner’s retail value as $68. The quality is good, but I don’t know anyone that would pay $68 for a casual canvas banner. My BRAID spray didn’t work and leaked during shipment, so for the moment its still unusable. Customer service was great and said they will replace it but I’m getting a bit impatient. Lastly, the $20 giftcard for the Renewal Workshop is nice, and seems like a great company. However, there is nothing on their website in that price range! After already spending $55 on a box, I cant justify spending an additional $20 – $30 for something I don’t particularly like or need. In the winter box they included a gift card to Krochet Kids, which was awesome because KK has a selection of hats for around $20. Ill give it one more season before canceling my subscription because I REALLY love their mission and culture.

I feel the same way. Photos of the Winter box was what inspired me to pull the trigger on an annual sub, so I was really really disappointed with the welcome box and then the Spring box.

Is it still possible to get this box? My son’s name is True so I’m dying for that banner!

This is my fourth Causebox, and while it’s probably my least favorite among those I’ve received, I do appreciate the quality of the items in it. At first I was a little “????” about the banner, but it’s beautifully made and it’ll look cute in my craft room. And while I don’t have pierced ears, I LOVE those earrings, so I’m going to try turning them into a necklace and bracelet set — “Make it work” as Tim Gunn would say 😉

And I will say that even though I didn’t have to contact customer service for this shipment, when I’ve done so in the past, CS has been VERY responsive and friendly. All in all, despite my slight disappointment this time around, Causebox is really a great sub, and it’s introduced me to a lot of companies I never would have known about otherwise.

A word of caution for pet owners – there are many essential oils that should not be used around pets (especially cats), and the room spray contains some of them!

Citrus oils contain d-limonene, of which carvacrol is a bi-product, and can cause toxicity for kitties as their systems cannot process it. Consider using room sprays -like the one in this box – (and other household sprays/cleaners) containing citrus oils away from cats and areas they frequent.

Nooooo!!! But it smells so good 🙁

OMG! Thanks for the warning! I didn’t even think about this and was spraying it all over the house the other day thinking it was safe because it’s all natural. Oh my poor doggie 🙁 He seems fine though. I will definitely be more careful.

Thank you for the heads-up! That’s very helpful to know.

This is supposed to be my first box from them but it hasn’t even shipped yet. I also got the notification that I may be getting the candle and cards rather than the mug. I really want to like this box but with the (inferior, IMO) item substitution, late shipping, and these pretty “meh” spoilers we’re off to a bad start. To me, this isn’t an inexpensive box and I’m a bit disappointed.

Meghan

I’m actually really unhappy about this box. I subbed because I saw how amazing past boxes were, and this one was just so so disappointing. I deeply regret subbing for the whole year. My first box was that cruddy little welcome box with all of their leftovers in it. That should have been my first sign.

Reply ButtonReply

Rebecca

Sorry to hear that, I admit this isn’t as high of a value box as some past ones but causebox items are usually very swappable if you are on the swap boards 🙂 I think causebox works hard to curate thoughtful and responsible items, I also subbed for the year and hoping the next few boxes have the same curation we’ve seen in past boxes. I’m sure and hope you won’t regret it!

This was the first time I received my box well before the review came out, so it was actually a surprise when I opened it, aside from the mug and the earrings. The spoilers were awesome enough that I was super excited for this box, but then everything else was a bit of a let down for me when I initially opened it. The print is super cute, so I’ll put that in my new office to help add a little color, along with the mug as a pencil holder. The spray would have been my favorite item, I love citrusy scents, but my bottle is defective, doesn’t spray, and leaked all over my box. I will commend Causebox on their awesome customer service and prompt attention to that matter. Many people mentioned having the same issue, and they are working to replace the defective products.

It’s the standard subscription boxing whining though. Not everything is going to suit everyone. The banner isn’t my style at all, and I have a very short hair style, so I’m always sad when I get hair ties in my boxes. Luckily with Causebox everything is quality and can easily be gifted. And I will find a way to use the defective room spray. I might try adding a bit to my essential oil diffuser to see how that works.

I don’t have pierced ears so I feel the same way every time I get earrings in a box that you do about getting hair ties. You’re right…it’s the “known risk” you take with sub boxes since there is so much variance in people’s preferences, styles, and what we can use. But everything always does make great presents or gifts!

Also, I had an issue with my nail polish from the winter box spilling all over and the customer service was great in promptly addressing my problem too. I didn’t try to actually spray my room spray this time around since I could smell it just by removing the cap so I will have to remember to do that now. Thanks for the head’s up!

I wish the banner had been a tote instead. I have no use for a banner and hope this was a one-time thing.

Reply ButtonReply

Dianna

Could I buy the banner from you? My son’s name is True so I’m dying for it!

Reply ButtonReply

Becca

Hi Dianna,
Did you find someone to send you a banner yet? If not, Im happy to sell mine to you. Its beautiful but just doesn’t fit into my decor and it sounds perfect for you son. Whats your email address?

Meghan

I agree. A tote would have been great! Instead I’m gonna put the banner on my toddler’s wall. It’ll be perfect in there.

Reply ButtonReply

Laura

Agreed, I thought it was a tote at first and was very excited. The banner just isn’t something I’ll use.. I may make it into a pillow or something.

This is one of my favorite subs. They nailed it with the winter and fall box, this one is just ok. I love the earrings and mug, I’ll use the spray and hair ties, but that banner and gift card (why do they put gift cards in sub boxes?) I won’t use. The banner is too young in my opinion for this box. I still love Causbox, but it’s hard to follow those last two boxes, they were fab!

Reply ButtonReply

Judy

I agree. I also loved the last 2 boxes much better than this one which is OK. Interesting but just OK,

I saw a picture on instagram revealing the items in this box a day or two ago, and I wasn’t excited at all to get mine, BUT, I got my box today and as I opened it and saw everything, i realized that I actually love everything! I will use everything single thing in this box, except for the earrings because my ears aren’t pierced! I don’t know what my problem was the other day, but I seriously love EVERYTHING!! This has to be my favorite sub box out of the several subs that I get!
