If You Give a Mouse a Brownie by Laura Numeroff - Value $12.38 on Amazon (retail price $17.99)
We love these “circle” stories by Laura Numeroff. They start off with the main character asking for something (in this version a brownie) which leads to something else and around it goes until the story ends where it began like a circle. This is Laura’s latest story starring Mouse who starred in her first book of the series titled: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. This one is just as cute and funny as all the others. My son and daughter both love this book!
Chloe by Peter McCarty - Value $7.99 on Amazon (retail price $16.99)
Chloe is a bunny with ten older brothers and sisters and ten younger brothers and sisters. Chloe is right in the middle. Her favorite time with her family is after dinner. She calls it family fun time. But when dad brings home something new, a TV, Chloe isn’t so sure how she feels. She decides to make her own fun popping bubble wrap and playing in the empty TV box and soon all her siblings follow. We liked this story about being creative and thinking outside the box, or IN the box as the case may be. Darling illustrations too.
Unfortunately, the book jacket on Chloe came sliced at the top and a second spot a little below (most likely from a box cutter unpacking the books). This is the second time I’ve received a book that was slightly damaged from Lil Bear Book Club. I wish they’d be a little more careful packing their boxes to make sure damaged items aren’t being shipped to paying subscribers.
Verdict: Both books were a huge hit this month. I thought they did a great job picking titles by well-known authors. I also noticed that Lil' Bear Book Club has changed the information on their website to say that they ship 2-3 gift wrapped picture books (not 2-4 as it used to say). I think this was a good decision since they typically send two and I’ve only received 3 once in a year of subscribing. The value this month was a little over $20 which doesn’t cover the cost of the box with shipping (using Amazon prices).
