WODBOM stands for “Workout of the Day – Box of the Month” and is a subscription box designed for CrossFit enthusiasts, by CrossFit enthusiasts. (Although, I don’t think you absolutely have to be into CrossFit to get something out of this box, as long as you are interested in working out!)
This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Included was an information card describing the products in the box. There were also some coupons and product literature.
Treign Limited Apparel Tank – Value $25
This is a 60/40 cotton/poly blend. It felt pretty breathable when I put it on although part of that might be because it was just a touch too big for me (this subscription only lets you go down to a small in tops and I probably need XS). This will still work for cardio days during the summer, though! (This design is exclusive to WODBOM but all the other Treign tanks are $25. Men received a t-shirt instead.) Also, I really like the color of this tank.
Hyper Go After Sports Wipes (12 x 12) – Value $1.99
The variety of products available for people who don’t have time to shower after workouts is kind of impressive. Since I work out at home, this is not such an issue for me, but I like to carry a few wipes like this in my purse in case I feel gross after being outside in the summertime. These are fragrance-free and biodegradable, which is great!
Jerkfit Nubs – Value $9.95
These are latex free and are designed as an alternative to tape for use when lifting with the hook grip. (I will admit I am not up on the proper names of weightlifting grips and that grip doesn’t come naturally for me). They are padded to protect the thumb and make your grip more comfortable and you can use them with chalk if you want. I usually wear gloves when I lift weights but I can feel how these offer more protection for the thumbs because of the thickness of the material.
Here is what one of the Nubs looks like on. They sent me a size “S” (I don’t remember if you provide glove/hand size to WODBOM or if they just guessed based on my shirt size, but it was perfect for me).
Ript Skin Systems 3 Phase Hand Care Kit – Value $13.98 (MSRP $21.95)
This is a 3-part system for dealing with calluses. The black “stone” is synthetic pumice and it is really lightweight. It is also somewhat gentler than some of the other callus-removing options I’ve seen in fitness boxes lately. Then you get a balm to use on damaged skin (the Quick Fix) and another one to use each day (the Daily Dose) for maintenance. Because I wear gloves, I don’t usually have a problem with calluses on my hands. For some reason, though, my feet are a different story, so whenever I get products like this, I use them on my feet. I tried the Daily Dose on my feet after a shower (you use the “stone” when it is wet for best results) and I think I saw a small difference. I am sure it would be similar for hands!
Rise Buddy Baked Rice Snack (1.4 oz) – Value $1.50 (buy a 12-pack for $18 or a 36-pack for $45 from Amazon)
I did not realize when I ate these that they were whole grain, but that helps explain why they were in a fitness-related box (usually CrossFit boxes send more Paleo-oriented snacks and these are pretty carb heavy, which is my preference anyway). They have a nice crunch and a strong sour cream and onion flavor (don’t eat them in public or no one will want to be around your breath). This was a new brand for me.
Apollo Energy Gum (5 pieces, spearmint) – Value $4.50 (get 2 packages for $9, 5 packages for $17 or 15 packages for $39)
This was also new for me and I am actually a big fan now. I have had some other caffeinated gum in the past that tasted terrible, but this had a nice, strong mint flavor that lasted quite awhile. It has a little less caffeine than the average cup of coffee, is sugar free, contains xylitol (which can help your teeth and gums), and has some B vitamins for energy. I feel like this does help me focus a little bit and I would totally buy more if I wasn’t getting aligners to straighten my teeth pretty soon.
Speed Rope from Speed-Ropes.com – Value $9.99 (MSRP $14.99)
These are pretty popular right now. One thing that is nice about them is that the length is adjustable, which I need since most jump ropes are too long for me (I am 5’5”). If you are so inclined, you can also create your own handle/wire color combination at the product link above. Sometimes I do jump rope intervals between weight lifting sets so it is nice to have this around (even though I have some sort of block when it comes to actually using this particular style of rope properly; it is a different experience from other jump ropes).
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $67 for the April WODBOM. That is quite a bit above the cost of the box plus shipping and is about what you should expect for this subscription in terms of value. In general, I think this box was a nice mixture of snacks, gear, and apparel, and that it is suitable for people interested in lots of different fitness activities, not just CrossFit (it definitely helps to have an interest in weightlifting, though).
What did you think of the April 2017 WODBOM? Do you get any fitness subscriptions?
