I am very pleased that the June box is included Paula’s Choice Sunscreen Spray.

I wrote a comment last night but it’s not showing up.

(1) For those of you concerned about the safety of ingredients, I recommend pasting the ingredients into cosdna.com and then doing your own research on reputable sites.

(2) One of the major/real issues with spray sunscreens is coverage and inhalations. Sprays don’t tend to provide the full and complete coverage achieved by liquid sunscreens and you have to be careful not to inhale the product. Also, avoid open flames like candles

Cool story

So far this box isn’t impressive to me. I’ve got enough sunscreen right now and I’m not sure about that needle thingy…

Reply ButtonReply

Bria

I bought this from the Paula’s choice website and love it!! Wouldn’t use it on my face though.

Sarah

The best and only organic sunscreen is shade. 🙂 Feeling a bit snarky today…lol

Stephanie

A spray on sunblock!!! I’ve been wanting to get my hands on one of these! So excited!

Steph

This stuff is really harmful to the environment. Oxybenzone has been shown to bleach (kill) coral. Please choose mineral sunscreens.

Good advice. I wouldn’t want to damage the coral reef in my condo complex’s swimming pool.

Did you actually read the entire scientific research article you cited in your post? Do you really think an article that in-depth, and that is not in laymen terms, will be read by the average person? Or fully understood? If you want people to understand the possible effects of certain products on the environment cite something people will actually understand and want to do further research for their own information in order to make a sound decision on what they want to use.

Reply ButtonReply

Steph

Yes. I’m a research scientist in another field, and I did read it. If you had actually looked at it, you’d see a lot of the space is take up by images and citations. What are you looking for? Some garbage, non-sourced fluff piece on Cosmopolitan Magazine’s website? That would be met with complains from the peanut gallery about not having references. Can’t win.

Does anyone else miss those wacky in boxing videos?

Reply ButtonReply

C

Yasss. They were both such strange choices to me for unboxing, and it was so weirdly staged and edited.

Reply ButtonReply

Meghan

YES. I’ve been wanting to try a new sunscreen for AGES but couldn’t justify buying a new one because I already have so many of them. I love PC, and I’m super excited to try this.

Reply ButtonReply

Christine

I actually don’t get this box. Like I have sensitive skin and do not experiment with skincare. I have a handful of tried and true products and have noticed whenever I deviate and try something new, 90% of the time my skin does not react favorably so I always end up regretting having experimented in the first place. So a box of a dozen new skincare experiments a month sounds like a disaster to me.

Reply ButtonReply

Setzie

I’m so glad they let me skip this month! I scar really weird and putting all those needles on my face sounds like a recipe for the dermatologist. And then expensive fix for $20 tool.

Reply ButtonReply

Tiffany Wheat

It would actually help with scarring

DB

I don’t have the issues that you do, but I am with you on now wanting to try it. Scares me as well. Why would I puncture my facial skin like that? So many concerns with cleaning the thing correctly/fully, use of products after (seems there are a lot of limitation on what you can or cannot use afterward). Anyway, I am sure the rest of the box will be wonderful, just this item is too invasive for me.

C

I love trying new skincare items all the time and finding new favorites, and trying products that I never would have tried. The value is almost always there for me.

LOVE getting chemical free sunscreens, but not in sprays or cans. Now THOSE guys are toxic. Check out the 2017 Sunscreen report from EWG. It fully explains the how’s & why’s of these facts.

Reply ButtonReply

Jay

It also contains dihydrogen monoxide (DHMO)!

DHMO is a very dangerous chemical. It’s a major component of acid rain, is found in biopsies of cancerous and pre-cancerous tumors, the gaseous form causes serious burns, and if inhaled, even a small quantity of DHMO can be fatal.

Stay woke, my friends.

Reply ButtonReply

monah

The dihydrogen monoxide hoax involves calling water by the unfamiliar chemical name “dihydrogen monoxide” (DHMO), and listing some of water’s effects in an alarming manner.

Google DHMO, and you can read all the information out there about this hoax that began back in the 90’s.

People, do the research on things you don’t understand. Be sure you look at websites that are impartial and factual. Anyone can make any claim they want so don’t be gullible. Be informed. Learn how to separate fact from fiction!

Victoria

Girl, water is a chemical.

monah

Ack! I just realized our bodies are made of chemicals! Seriously though, people see the word chemical and think they are all bad and that’s just not the case.

I have subbed to at least 30 boxes, not all at one time, currently subbed to 8 or nine. I honestly think that Beauty Fix is the one sub that I do not end up throwing the stuff in a tote, actually using every item.

When can I subscribe to get the June box?

In order to get this one, sub on June 1st. They don’t send their June box until the month begins.

Thanks ☺

I subscribed to Beauty Fix last month. I was curious if they ever offer discounts for 3,6 or 12 month subscriptions – lower than the $24.95 or this months $10 off? Possibly Black Friday?

Thank you,

Dermstore doesn’t even currently sell this particular product, so this doesn’t make sense. Also, it uses sunscreens that are known to be toxic and it’s loaded with silicone, so I can’t use it. Some reviewers said it’s way too greasy, burned their eyes, and stained their clothes. The ingredients were difficult to find, but here they are if anyone’s interested:

Active: Avobenzone 3.0%, Homosalate 8%, Octisalate 5.0%, Octocrylene 2.5%, Oxybenzone 5.0%.
Inactive: Cyclopentasiloxane (silicone Slip Agent), C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate (emollient/emulsifier), Octyldodecyl Neopentanoate (emollient), VP/Hexadecane Copolymer (film-forming/water-resistant Agent), Tocopheryl Acetate (vitamin E/antioxidant),Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (vitamin C/antioxidant), Phenyl Trimethicone (silicone Skin Conditioning Agent), Panthenyl Triacetate (skin Conditioning Agent).

I agree with the other reviewers regarding Paula’s Choice. It’s a well known skincare company and they clearly list all ingredients for their products on their website. They also have an advice section that includes an ingredient dictionary that is useful if you have a concern over a specific ingredient in a product & want to find out more about it.

Reply ButtonReply

Jane

Wow! Thanks for the heads up! I don’t know much about ingredients so i had to look them up but WOW it contains all the toxic chemicals to be avoided in a sunscreen. I’m surprised Paulas Choice manufactured such a product. I guess you don’t have much choice when it ces to spray cans. Thanks for the info, I definitely would have sheepishly trusted them.

Ann

Yet another vague reply about “toxic chemicals” with no link to data that backs this accusation. Very irresponsible.

Here is a link to the American Academy of Dermatology, which states “Yes, sunscreen is safe to use. No published studies show that sunscreen is toxic to humans or hazardous to human health. Scientific studies actually support using sunscreen.” See more at https://www.aad.org/public/spot-skin-cancer/learn-about-skin-cancer/prevent/is-sunsceen-safe

Also worth noting that this product is a pump spray, not an aerosol can.

Amber P

The ingredients were not hard to find (just to make it NOT sound like a sketch product). I found them quite easily on the Paula’s Choice website which included links to reference cited descriptions of the key ingredients.

People really like poo pooing products for on here for a lot of different reasons, but I can’t help but think that if someone is looking for an organic, all natural sunscreen then Beauty Fix’s box as a whole probably isn’t for you.

Reply ButtonReply

monah

Paula’s Choice is known for using quality, cruelty-free ingredients. I would be surprised to find anything toxic in their products.

Is Beauty Fix obligated to include only products they sell in their store? Couldn’t it be a product they may carry at some point in the future?

Reply ButtonReply

KarenG

I love Paula’s Choice and I agree, dermstore never said they’d only place products they currently sell.
I’ve been a subscriber for quite a while now and have always been pleased with their selections. Overall, it’s been a good investment for me.

Ann

If you are going to post about ingredients with “known toxicity,” please link the data that proves this. It’s irresponsible to make such a vague claim, without specifics or proof to back it up. Thanks!

Hildol

Ann, here is the short of it, and I only pulled 2 ingredients for a quick check. Some of the others are also bad. But here is a quick skinny: Avobenzone degrades in the sun, resulting in the release of free radicals that may actually increase the risk for cancer. Free radicals are also known to accelerate skin aging and research has also tied it to a slew of allergies
Oxybenzone is actually more toxic than avobenzone. This chemical may actually be behind the increased rates of melanoma, the skin cancer that most people are attempting to avoid by using sunscreen! Oxybenzone has been found to lower the birth weight of girls whose mothers’ bodies had high exposure levels. It’s also linked to allergies, hormone disruption, and cell damage.
If you would like to look it up, you can google each chemical or a quick reference is

Also curious what the toxic ingredients are!!

Please come to Canada!

Finally, a good sized sunscreen. I’m so tired of the other boxes and their dime sized sample sunscreens. I love Paula’s Choice and can’t wait to try this.
