Here's the info card that came with the box.
There's a product list on the back. Sometimes this subscription features brands I recognize, but not this month. I'm eager to see what these pieces are like!
The note this month is all about summer fun, with a small nod towards Father's Day, too. I don't think the jewelry items this month really reflect that summer vibe, though. But no big deal.
On the other hand, this product is perfect for summer. I've seen Manna Kadar products in this box before (as well as other boxes—she's really eager to woo the subscription box world!), and I've been happy with what I got. And I love illuminators—they can add polish and light to your look with hardly any effort. Can't wait to try this one!
Cate & Chloe is also pushing their online shop, where you can find past VIP items. There's a coupon on the flip-side of this card to entice me to buy. I'll definitely check it out!
Cate & Chloe always packages their products in dainty, careful ways. This first item is in a velvety drawstring bag.
Alessandra Vision 18k White Gold Pendant Necklace - Retail Value $150.00
This necklace is a little more traditional in design than I'd typically wear, but I've got to say, I'm a little obsessed with how shimmery it is!
The necklace has a lobster claw clasp and a delicate chain that makes it feel particularly elegant.
The pendant itself is hugged by a little loop of crystals. According to the Cate and Chloe site shop, the stones are all "AAA Grade CZ Stones," which I assume means cubic zirconia? But it's also white-gold plated, which hopefully means it's less likely to turn my neck green after wearing it too long!
From afar, the loop detail blends into the main crystal, but the shimmer is still noticeable. Again, I prefer slightly more contemporary or edgy looks, but I'm happy to have this necklace for fancy occasions. One thing I like about Cate and Chloe pieces is that they're usually pretty versatile!
The next item came in this cute bow-tied box.
Alessandra Vision 18k White Gold Plated Drop Earrings - Retail Value $150.00
As their name suggests, these earrings coordinate perfectly with the necklace. The pendants that form their drop shape are the same as the pendant on the necklace.
One thing I liked about these earrings is the fact that they have a whole clasp, as opposed to just a hook. I've lost too many hook-backed earrings on wedding dance floors—these, on the other hand, look like they'll stay put!
Again, the loop design isn't quite me, but I like that these are the kind earrings that can instantly up the fanciness of an outfit.
The white of the white gold really shines through in these earrings. I didn't expect them to pop as much as they do!
Zoe Life Interlocking Bangles - Value $15.97 (Retail Price $89.00)
These bracelets are really simple and easy to wear. I told you this box featured versatile items, didn't I? These bracelets are so understated that they could easily find their way into casual or sophisticated outfits alike.
They do interlock, but in a way that's comfortable, not clunky.
I do kind of wish there was something extra about these bracelets to make them stand out just a teeny bit more. Maybe an engraved pattern? I'm sure I'll get lots of use out of them, but I think I'm looking for something that would make them feel... special. Especially when I subscribe to a service like this, I like feeling like I'm getting unique items that I couldn't find elsewhere. These bracelets are cool, but I feel like I could find something equivalent on a quick trip to the mall.
Manna Kadar Glo Illuminator, 20 ml - Retail Value $29.00
Now to play with the illuminator! It looks like this is a full-size product, which I always appreciate.
It's hard to capture what this illuminator does in a simple swatch. (I know—it looks just kinda gloopy on my arm, doesn't it? Haha!) The formula is very, very sheer. It's the kind of thing that you can build up layer by layer. If you're aiming for a very natural look, this formula is probably a good pick. If you're going for a more noticeable look (for instance, if your illuminator is standing in for eye-catching eyeshadow or blush), then this thinner product might not be the right product for you. The undertone is sort of a sandy rose color, which works pretty well with my pale skin, but I worry whether it would be equally as flattering on deeper skin tones. (I wonder if the illuminator would blend in as naturally.) For me, it's a handy product to have for summer, for sure! I'll gladly trade lots of makeup for a few sweeps of this effortless illuminator!
Verdict: Cate & Chloe is usually on the more traditional end of my spectrum of style, but it's helped me build up a jewelry wardrobe perfect for adding some class to work outfits or special occasion looks. I do wish the bracelets had a bit more panache, but I'm sure I'll find ways to incorporate all three of these products into my summer outfits. Of course, my one holds up with Cate & Chloe is the way they value their items. From the prices I found, there's about $350.00 of value in this box. That seems super high for a box that's priced at just $39.99 (shipping for the VIP box is free). My side-eye intensifies when I notice that the two products I found on Cate & Chloe's site are apparently worth $300.00 total, but the bracelets were on sale at Nordstrom Rack for about $16.00. Are the necklace and earrings products I could find at Nordstrom Rack on sale, too? Or are they really worth $150.00 each? I think it's definitely worth the $39.99 cost, but I don't think the items inside are quite as valuable as Cate & Chloe let on!
