(We're including both the suggested values and the values we could find online in this review.)
This month, the reverse side also had a recipe for Barilla Farfalle with Basil Pesto, Broccoli, and Sausage. (The farfalle + pesto is included in the box, the rest you need to purchase.)
Speaking of pesto, there is also a little booklet included to inspire you to make all sorts of delicious things with the two different kinds offered by Barilla.
There's also a coupon for $1.00 off any Mulino Bianco cookie or breadstick...
...as well as this code for $2.00 off of a Village Harvest product.
Onward to the box!! This is roughly half of my pantry!!
Mulino Bianco Galletti Shortbread Cookies, 5.29 oz bag - Listed Value $2.99 (Buy a case of 10 on Amazon for $21.93)
These are soooooo tasty! I could not stop eating them! They have them listed on the info card as "breakfast" but let's be real, these are a snack. I actually had them with tea and felt v fancy. They are really buttery and have a bit of sugar on top to sweeten them up. The ONLY downside here is that my bag must have gotten a little smooshed in delivery because there are a lot of crumbly bits instead of all full cookies.
Skinnygirl Mojito Mint Green Tea, box of 18 cups - Listed Value $4.99 (24-pack available on Amazon Prime Pantry for $14.00)
This item was a bit of a bummer since I am apparently the last person alive who doesn't own a Keurig. I don't know much about Keurigs, but these cups are compatible with "2.0 Brewers". I'll have to pass these along to someone that has one and hope I can try it because I really enjoy anything mint-flavored. The value listed also seems kind of low since on Amazon it's $9 more to get an additional six.
Pure Growth Organic Oatmeal (Original), box of 6- 1 oz packets - Listed Value $2.98 (Similar product here on Amazon for $2.92. No Sponge Bob though? LAME.)
I'm happy to report that out of the three variations, I received the Sponge Bob version. I don't think the oatmeal is any different, but I like Sponge Bob better than Frozen or the Minions, so that's a small win for me.
I don't know about you all, but when I buy oatmeal in the packets, I tend to use it much faster than when I get the one large container that has to be measured out. Why is that? The packet directions are somehow so much easier, even though I don't think that makes any sense, right? The directions here call for a microwave, which I also don't have (yes, I live in the 50's apparently), but I know I can just pour boiling water over it, and that will get the job done. This oatmeal is no frills, but you can know you are being extra healthy because it's organic!
Mutti Polpa (finely chopped tomatoes), 14 oz can - Listed Value $2.29 (buy a 12-pack on Amazon Prime Pantry for $23.34)
I basically can only cook tacos + boil water unless it's a subscription box meal, but my roommate can make a mean Sunday gravy with homemade pasta. I may pass this on to him because I don't know that I'd use this can of tomatoes in my everyday life. When I make pasta, I'm a sauce-out-of-a-jar kind of gal. They look authentic though. I think it's the pull-tab. That makes everything a bit nicer, no?
Mulino Bianco Tomato + Oregano Sfilati, 7.05 oz - Listed Value $3.99
Straight up? These taste like a lighter version of pizza goldfish crackers, but you look way classier eating these with a salad and some tomato soup. That is all you need to know.
Barilla Traditional Basil Pesto, 10 oz jar - Listed Value $2.99 (buy a 4-pack for $10.44 on Amazon)
Ok- here we go. This is my jam..er...sauce. I adore pesto! I'm a big fan or basil + garlic, so I usually get a pesto sauce on pizza if given the choice. I'm excited to use this, and I think I'll actually make the recipe that came with the box this month to make the dish with the Farfalle. I'll probably swap out the sausage with chicken, but broccoli is a big old yes. Mmmmm can't wait!
Barilla Farfalle, 1 lb box - Listed Value $1.68 ($1.36 at Amazon Prime Pantry)
Farfalle, aka "bow tie pasta" for those of us in the mid-west. I'll take this POUND of pasta with no complaints because pasta is one of my two main food groups. As I mentioned above, I will most certainly make that yummy pesto dish with this, and there will no doubt be leftover bow ties that I can slather jarred pasta sauce all over at a later date. Barilla is really knocking it out of the park today.
Soy Vay Asian Honey BBQ Marinade + Sauce, 21.5 oz bottle - Value 4.19 (buy a 6-pack for $23.89)
Soooo I just got into rice bowls recently and I think this might be excellent instead of teriyaki I've been using. I would also definitely dump this all over some chicken before baking it. This bottle is huge, so it should go a long way.
Goya Lentil + Vegetable Soup, 5 oz box - Listed Value $1.99
Goya is a distinctive food powerhouse, and I had no idea they were in the lentil soup biz. What a pleasant surprise. Lentil is in my top 3 soups, so I'm definitely stoked to put this in my pantry.
La Tortilla Factory Handmade Style White Corn + Wheat Tortillas, pack of 8 - Listed Value $2.99
Remember when I told you that pasta is one of my two main food groups? Well, tacos are the other, so these tortillas will not live to see next week. Because I like you, dear review readers, I will let you in on my secret weapon of taco recipes. It takes patience to prep the poblanos, but in the end, you will cry tears of joy after experiencing potato poblano tacos. I promise you. (You'll have to refer to potato variation at the end.)
Verdict: Degustabox is pretty boss, if you ask me. I am into, and could use all but maybe two items (the tea k-cups and the chopped tomatoes) out of the 10 I received. I feel like the value is definitely there, especially if you were to order this all online. The listed prices (which I feel some were pretty low) came to $31.88, which is already $11.89 over the cost, and shipping is free! It's of course even better of a deal if you use this month's MSABONUS2017 code and get your first box for $9.99 instead of the regular $19.99. I've already eaten almost all of the breadsticks and the shortbread cookies and will enjoy using all of these items to build some great meals in the future.
What do you think of this month's Degustabox? Do you have a favorite item?
