GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription box. They have the best packaging in the business, their products are usually deluxe size or full size, and the value is usually good too.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

FYI: GlossyBox sends out multiple variations of the box during some months. So, there may be some variation between what I review and what you receive.

The Subscription Box

Each box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included:

And a reminder that the Limited Edition CEW Glossybox is coming soon:

Now, onto the items:

Leighton Denny Nail Polish in Pillow Talk - FULL SIZE! Value $16

This nail polish is a gorgeous cranberry creme with high shine. Full coverage in two coats. Here it is on:

(I just realized I received the exact same nail polish in my April 2016 GlossyBox, so some subscribers may be getting a repeat.)

Vitry Nail Repair Care - 4 ml Value $8

This formula is designed to help strengthen nails. It also is great for a no nail polish look. It gives a subtle shine. (And I love that it dried almost immediately.)

Skinn Cosmetics “Bronze Goddess” Eye Shadow & Blush Palette - Value $25

(I could only find this palette available in the US for sale on Amazon and Ebay, so I'm using the Amazon price. GlossyBox lists the retail value as $28)

UPDATE: Available online at Skinn Cosmetics here. (Sorry about that!)

This palette includes a blush shade, a shimmer highlighter, 3 shimmer metallic eyeshadows, and one matte brown eyeshadow.

The pigment payoff is pretty good. The shimmery eyeshadows are gorgeous. (Swatched in lower photo.)

Rodial XXL Lip Liner in Nude - FULL SIZE! Value $22

I really love the color of this lip liner. It works well as a barely-there color for my skin tone. The formula is creamy, and the pigment is pretty good. (I made the mistake of pressing down too hard to get more color payoff and broke the tip, so apply with a bit of caution!)

Here it is swatched above the palette:

The Spa To You Deep Pore Cleansing Brush & Massager – Value $9

This cleansing brush has a combination of soft bristles and five silicone bristles. (The silicone parts are designed to help with gently massaging your skin.)

(This also comes with a protective cover.)

This isn't a Clarisonic, but it definitely helped get my skin cleaner than just using my cleanser + my hands. And it's great for travel, too.

Here is everything in the May 2017 GlossyBox

Total box value: $80

Verdict

I think the value for this box is good compared to the $21 cost, and I'll use everything included. I also appreciate that there were multiple full-size items in the box. The downside to GlossyBox is that sometimes you'll receive products that aren't available to buy online, so the "discovery" aspect of this box is a little limited compared to other beauty boxes.

Now that they’re offering this box at 50% off, I’m wondering if I should get it (it’s better than Allure & BB’s May boxes) or wait till June if it’s still available….

Reply ButtonReply

Nancy

I was thinking the same thing…if the 50% off is not available maybe they will have something else..

I’ve got the Retro Brow product from them in Med/Dark, it looks like a great product but I’m a fair blond. I need it in the lighter color if anyone wants to swap

I think I’ve had them for 2 years now and I absolutely hate this box. Probably the second one I’ve hated so far. Too much make up, I’ve already received the Leighton Denny nail polish in the exact same color. The other nail polish is tiny but judging by the comments I’m not even going to try it

Lola

I found the size of the polish to be the size of regular nail polishes.

Anyone notice that this month’s surveys aren’t up yet? I loved the Mother’s Day box but was missing an item and though I contacted them immediately, I haven’t heard anything back yet. It’s been over 2 weeks now. On the other hand, I really didn’t like this month’s box (or last month’s either), I only kept one item from this box and haven’t even tried it yet. I have 2 months left on my sub and I plan to cancel after that, but I’m wondering with the steep decline in quality and the poor customer service whether they’ll make it 2 more months. This feels like a death spiral to me.

Jess

I subbed for a 6 month and still have 3 months left. i was happy with the previous 2 months and ok with this month. But yes I ould like to know why the surveys are not up yet. I will be canceling once my sub is over and may consider if another deal comes along because I think 21 is pricey.

I am so angry about this box! I used the nail strengthener and my nail snapped in half this morning, the face cleanser smelled super bizarre and kept me up last night, and the moment I touched the nude pencil to my lip, the tip snapped off! What a load of garbage. I’m so glad that I cancelled weeks ago. Ipsy has been knocking it out of the park, and I’ve been happy with Sephora Play’s quality as well.

Jess

yep, I have been using the nail strengther since I received it and 3 of my nails broke. right in half.

vanessa

I would love to get this exact box, but now as many of you have pointed out – I wonder how & why they really determine who gets what?

I’m a little scared & put off by their variation process.

Julie

Hi received my box today and I’m happy with it.

I got the mud mask which I need since my face keeps breaking out from my hair products.

I also received a 30% off coupon at Michael Todd. Anyone else get This? Curious because I just ordered a soniclear a couple weeks ago.

Michelle

So glad I didn’t get the palette. I am sure it’s nice but it looks like a million other palletes out there.

Reply ButtonReply

Elle

Gosh I pd 150 for the annual box several yrs now and no leaks got the nuxe and the prrfume so really can’t complain
I was hoping for the hair mask but happy with the mud mask. I’m listing items i won’t use on the swap list which I did with the nuxe and got the most beautiful necklace so I truly do not see a problem
So thankful Liz started the swap group
If anyone wants I’ve listed PSMH entire box for MY

This is my 4th GB and I got this exact box. I’ve already cancelled so this will be my last box for a while until I can work through some of my stash. I’m pleasantly surprised by the pallette, it has great neutrals that work well with my cool tones. Great to have a full size nude liner and bright nail polish. I’m happy and will miss GB.

TK

I got the Kevin Murphy hair mask and cleanser version but I LOVE it. I used the hair mask yesterday and my hair has never been softer. I was a little surprised by the results because I’m very picky about the hair products I use on my wavy, frizzy, sometimes unruly hair. I don’t know how GB decides who gets what box but they sure got mine right this month! I will definitely be purchasing more of the hair mask. I know the $ amt is less than the makeup pallet but I wouldn’t have used it. I’ve had GB off and on for over a year and have always been very happy!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

That’s what I got too.. Looking forward to trying the cleanser and it also says you can use it as an overnight mask.

Reply ButtonReply

Elle

Yea yes I got it

Laura

So many of these”reviews” are promos for the boxes. When you don’t pay for the box there is a higher probability that it will color your review in a more positive light – so that you may still continue to receive free boxes.

Viola

uh ohhh mine weighs 1.2lbs

I’m happy with my box! Been a GB subscriber for maybe 2 yrs now. For the price, whether you caught a sale or pay the $21, box contents are always worth significantly more. Sometimes I wonder if people who subscribe to numerous boxes maybe have kinda high expectations? I’ll use everything, I’ll try everything, and if a shade isn’t for me – one of my gf’s or mom will get a for-no-reason surprise gift that cost me next to nothing. That’s a win-win in my book 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Karen

Agreed, if you get this box at a deep discount, it’s not as awful. I would put it on a par with the $15 Allure box, but Allure has, on occasion, knocked my socks off (a free box for subscribers with SKII??? Wow wow wow). I have never once had my socks knocked off by Glossybox (but I almost always receive the worst versions offered each month – perhaps if I were receiving the nicer products in my boxes I wouldn’t be so cynical). I think dump their worst variations Onto their longer term subscribers – I think they think we’ve gotten complacent so they can repeatedly give us the junky variations and we still won’t cancel. But I think people are finally saying enough isenough.

At $21 a box, this box cannot complete with BeatyFix or BoxyCharm. They’re on totally different echelons.

I hardly post in these comments, but I’m so pissed, their customer service sucks. they never emailed me back. im missing the mud mask. every single month, i have either something shattered, cracked, missing, or used. Other stuff are ok. Im about to file CC fraud

I got the same box as Liz.

I’m a new subscriber, and I didn’t get the SKINN palette either. Very disappointed. IMO, that’s the one item everyone should’ve received. Well, that and the lip pencil (which everyone did get). It’s not rocket science to figure that out, GlossyBox. I’m cancelling.

Reply ButtonReply

Janel

Would have loved the SKINN Palette, but didn’t get it….

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

Same. I do like the cleansing balm though… I still would of liked the palette.

Marie

Me too

I used to really like Glossybox but I finally had to cancel. What gets me is the value of the boxed range so much. It isn’t fair when everyone is paying the same price. Good riddance!

Reply ButtonReply

Jess M

Yes, I agree. My box value was only $67. That’s OK for the value, but not when other people pay the same amount and get a box worth $80. Variations are fine but I do not understand why they can’t try to keep the value amount the same (or with a few dollars) for everyone. It’s disappointing because I keep getting the lowest possible value box every month.

Reply ButtonReply

Karen

I totally hear your gripe. Actually a $13 value difference isn’t that bad for Glossybox. They’ve been known to have variations with over $50 value differentials. They have replaced the big $30-$50 items with $2 shower gels or that nail polish by one of the Kardashians, also worth about 2 bucks. I think I have 3 or 4 bottles of that stuff and it’s all from Glossybox. If this subscription actually mirrored the boxes that Liz receives it wouldn’t be bad, but the low end variations are usually filled with unbelievably cheap junk. Either totally unknown brands or drug store stuff, and really CHEAP drug store stuff at that.

The best part about this box is the box itself!

Marie

Anyone have a box weight of 1.3 lbs.? If so, which variation did you get? Im impatient with wondering. Thanks!

Reply ButtonReply

Dena

My Box weighed 1.5 and I had what Liz had.. minus the red polish, instead I got the face mud mask. Awesome box.

Reply ButtonReply

Marie

I got my box finally. It was the version with the cleansing balm and the hair mask.

Reply ButtonReply

tkey2010

I got all but the red polish. In its place was a mud mask. I’m kinda glad I didn’t because I’ll be getting my Julep box pretty soon with Summer colors and all. What Products I won’t use ‘llI give to my Sisters or Nieces so that can get use out of them.

I must be easily pleased, because I am satisfied with my box, even the brush, if you are not attacking your face, it works well, I find it more gentle than the battery operated ones, and does a thorough job. I love hair treatments and trying new cleansers also. This was definitely more suited to me than the one with the eye palette.

Reply ButtonReply

Rookala

That Spa to You facial cleansing brush hurt my skin. It was very rough on my face, and after one use and a sore and red face I decided I decided it wasn’t for me. I took it into the shower with me and lo and behold, I found a new and better use for it ~ it scrubbed the soap scum out of the grouted areas of the mosaic trim in my shower walls beautifully, so receiving on otherwise unusable beauty accessory turned out not to be a total waste ~ LOL!

Reply ButtonReply

Detty

OMG! Awesome idea! I tried the brush without soap or anything, just wanted to see how “soft” it was and oh man! Hours later I still felt where I brushed my face with it! The funniest thing in my opinion was getting this brush along with a discount code for a BETTER brush SMH. I signed up for a 3 month deal at $15 a box…very very happy this is my last bag. For me, the value was just not there…even for $15 LOL. I get ipsy and my ipsy bags blew this out the water. Actually I cancelled Sephora Play and got a second Ipsy for this month. Both my bags valued at $135, one at $80 and the new one at $50. Yea bu bye Glossy! LOL The pet peeve I had with Sephora Play is that they NEVER send out fullsize anything, lol. Not even their own products!

Joanne

Haha to funny 😂😂

Jess

Great idea. I think I may keep mine in the shower for that use. The dermatologist I work for said some brushes can actually drive dirt and oil in the skin so I was unsure about using it.

Reply ButtonReply

nancyisshopping

I have a Clarisonic and sometimes I wonder if that is what I’m doing with it. 🙁

Since I do have the Clarisonic I love the idea of using it as a cleaning brush for the shower!

Julie

Mine weighs 1.4lbs. Anyone already get their box with that weight?

I have no patience, what’s in it!!

Reply ButtonReply

nancyisshopping

That was my weight (1.4lbs) and I got this exact same box that Liz received.

Thank you!
